If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Madeleine Sauvé requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. PamD 06:29, 23 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo Kate, the note I left on the article talk page (which will be deleted if the article is deleted) says:
Being a candidate is not accepted as "notability" for Wikipedia, so this article makes no assertion of her having any importance or significance appropriate for an encyclopedia article. Apologies to student editor - your teacher ought to have explained this to you. See WP:NPOL.

I see that the course page says "One of the assignments in this course will be to choose an elected legislator ...": that word "elected" is really important! PamD 06:35, 23 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi! I saw this nomination. PamD is correct in that a candidacy by itself is not something that would make someone automatically notable. For example, being a candidate for an extremely high office such as the President of the United States or for Prime Minister of Canada doesn't mark an individual as notable - however it does make it more likely that there will be coverage of this person, as the person will most likely be very high profile and as such, of interest to news and other media outlets that want to cover the candidate.
What you need to find right now is coverage of Sauvé as an individual outside of her candidacy. By this I mean that she would have received coverage that focuses on her as a person as opposed to just mentioning that she's running for an office. Make sure that the sourcing focuses on her in-depth (ie, not a passing mention or a brief quote) and that it isn't primary (not released by Sauvé or by any person, organization, or party affiliated with her, such as the NDP itself).
I hope this helps explain what you'll need to help establish notability! Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 13:33, 23 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thank you for your contributions. Unfortunately political candidates don't usually meet the threshold for inclusion on Wikipedia and I don't believe the article would survive a deletion discussion. Often there's little to nothing to write about them that can be attributed to independent reliable sources (the Mearns article basically looks like a CV right now). The article 2021 Lethbridge municipal election will likely need some attention though, if you're looking for an another way to contribute.Citing (talk) 02:51, 25 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(Side note: it looks like the edit history for Alaina Lockhart was included in the Mearns article. I'm guessing you used the same sandbox for multiple articles and then moved the page)Citing (talk) 02:57, 25 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Bridget Mearns has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Currently a candidate for mayor of a small city, subject does not meet requirements for notability for politicians. References show some local coverage but does not meet WP:BLP guidelines either. Note that several points in the article are supported by the subject's own website, rather than independently.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi Kate, I just want to make a point clear: Ms. Mearns does not meet the notability guidelines for politicians at this time. If and when she is elected mayor, I believe she would qualify. She appears to be a good candidate for the office. That having been said, it would make sense for you to take a copy of the article and save it in a spot such as User:Kate.healy/Bridget Mearns - that way the good work you've put into the article can be easily retrieved. Cheers, PKT(alk) 14:14, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Somebody came by and added some references to provide some evidence of meeting the General Notability guideline, so the article is saved for now. Regards, PKT(alk) 12:41, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
