3/31/17 Assignment[edit]

I read the article about Resident Assistants.

2. The strengths of the article were that: It had a clear lead section that gave a brief synopsis to the RA position and what an RA does It had very clear structure to it. When it was sources, the sources were reliable.

The weaknesses of the article were that: The content seemed to be very biased. For instance, it referred to RAs as being “great communicators”, and a lot of the article felt like it was written as a job description or a resume. The article does not have many citations at all, but the information that is written is something that definitely needs citations. There were a lot of subsections, most of which had only about a sentence underneath it. I personally feel that all of these subsections are unneeded, and could instead just be made into a list of traits that RAs possess, not a list with definitions.

4. The article was started on July 16th, 2004. At this time, it was a brief overview of the definition of “RA” as well as an overview of the stereotypical perceptions of RA’s. It offered a good amount of hyperlinks. I felt that the original post is actually better than the current post. After that, the edits began pouring in. There have been a ton of edits on the post, the most recent post being on March 3rd. Before that, there were a few others in 2017. The posting on the page has slowed down a bit since 2004, but there are still people that are adding to it.

5. The editors used it a bit, especially to clarify things such as what counts as a notable RA, and whether the “assistant” should also be capitalized. The tone of the conversation was oftentimes helpful and very friendly, but also very intellectual. These people take this very seriously. I did see a couple of names that seemed familiar, but the talk page went back pretty far, and there were so many edits made that it was hard to know for sure. I know one guy in particular made a ton of revisions and edits.

My edits: The edits that I made were with the intention of making the article flow smoother and also make an attempt at making it more neutral. A lot of the language in the article obviously came from past or current RAs that really think the world of themselves, and it was evident in the way that they wrote and hyped up the job. I felt that it was necessary to create a page that was more neutral.

O&H Danish Bakery is the world famous bakery that produces Kringle, the state pastry of Wisconsin. The bakery has been around for three generations, and sells more than a million Kringles a year, shipping them around the world. Kringle and O&H Danish bakery has been visited by former President Obama, as well as dozens of other celebrities, so there are plenty of newspaper articles written. There are likely articles written specifically on the Kringle as well. These sources could be found on newspaper websites and simply by a Google search.
Other things that could be worth searching would be Kringle, Racine, Wisconsin state pastry, and the owner, Eric Oelsen. Kringle, racine, Danish bakeries are all pages that could be linked to the article.
