Chris Williams[edit]

Hi Tass, thanks for the help. Where is the article now? I would like to copy paste if possible. Kazmandu2 (talk) 07:10, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If you click on 'history' (at the top of the page) you can see all previous versions of the page. The last version of the article is [1]. Tassedethe (talk) 15:50, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ok great, thank you. So the problem was that his name was ambigious? So I need to create a new page "Chris Williams (DJ)", correct? Kazmandu2 (talk) 21:10, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, something to separate him from existing articles on people called Chris Williams. Tassedethe (talk) 23:42, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Chris Williams (DJ) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Kazmandu2. A tag has been placed on Draft:Rockstar Marketing, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

I came across this just now, would it be possible to move it to the draft space so that it can be worked on some. There are fresh citations and scholarly writing being added.2602:30A:2CF0:90:492F:4F51:A343:4DBF (talk) 02:48, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • If you're this user you need to sign in under this account. Also, I really cannot believe the claims that this editor was unrelated to the company, so even if you are a separate person, this makes it extremely likely that you're also someone with a conflict of interest and the same rules apply: you must disclose any conflict of interest when editing. COI[edit]

While you claim that you do not have a conflict of interest, the promotional tones in the (now deleted) Rockstar Marketing draft and the article for Williams suggest otherwise. They both appear to have been written by someone who works in a marketing or PR department, especially this portion of the Rockstar article: "A few of the people we have worked with". The thing to keep in mind with editing with a COI is that you can edit with a COI but you have to be transparent about it. If there's enough evidence to believe that someone is editing with a COI but is deliberately hiding this status, it can lead to the editor in question getting blocked from editing. To put it quite bluntly, I have a very hard time believing that you are truly just a random fan of Williams and I believe that you are either a PR/marketing person, freelancer, or an intern that was specifically asked to create articles on Wikipedia. It's also quite possible that you are someone who works for Rockstar Marketing itself, given that you uploaded this image as fair use, which indicates that you hold the copyright to the image.

I'm sorry, but I simply cannot believe that you do not have a COI. I'm going to have to take this to WP:COI/N. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 09:36, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't work for Rockstar marketing. Maybe you are up late and too many redbulls. Chris Williams is a known dj. What's the problem? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1:A140:546:C106:385E:D6B9:935D (talk) 10:11, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm sorry, but it's really difficult to believe that you don't have a conflict of interest. Also, at one point you mentioned a "we" in relation to finding sources. Who's "we"? This gives off the impression that this account is being used by multiple people and is another reason why I believe that you're editing on behalf of a marketing or PR organization. The problem here is that there's actually quite a lot of evidence to suggest that you are a paid editor, enough to where I really don't believe that you're not here on behalf of a marketing company or aren't being paid by someone to come and edit Wikipedia. Non-COI editors very rarely create a page that reads like it was taken directly from a press release, nor do they usually upload business logos as their own work. As said above, someone with a conflict of interest can edit but they need to be transparent about it - if they hide it and there's a reasonable enough amount of evidence to suggest that they are deliberately trying to hide it, that's when it becomes outright deception and violates Wikipedia's guidelines. Disclosure is required. Since there's plenty of evidence to suggest that you are a paid editor and that you're possibly not the only one using the account, I'm going to block you.
As for the reasons why Williams would fail notability guidelines, I've given you an explanation for that. Williams is not the only DJ for the company and the mentions for him in the media are always in passing. The company has many, many DJs - not just one. Part of this is because iHeartRadio plays various public radio stations, along with the stations that people can create or the ones that the company has created. A search for his name with the word DJ attached brings up very little, so it doesn't look like he's a particularly visible DJ at this point in time. From what I can see, he appears to focus more on his job as a CPO. However as far as he goes with that, he seems to serve as more of a representative than anything else. There are news sources quoting him as he talks about the company, but that's not considered to be in-depth coverage, rather it's routine coverage of someone doing his job. Jobs very rarely give notability for a person unless the position is so overwhelmingly notable that someone would merit an article on that alone, like becoming a Senator. (Most of these jobs are political in nature.)
I'm going to block you. It's possible that you could be unblocked, but this would require that you explain why your edits fall in line with those commonly seen by paid editors, some of which I've listed above and some at the COI noticeboard. I normally assume far better faith from editors, but I find it very, very difficult to believe that you're not a paid editor of some sort and I also don't see where you're really trying to understand the reasons why Williams was put up for deletion. This is another hallmark of a paid editor, as people with this type of COI need to ensure that the article remains on Wikipedia for job reasons, as many marketing/PR companies give their clients assurances that their articles will remain regardless of what happens. I need to caution you: this rarely reflects well on anyone involved, including the client and some clients have actually had some backlash from this. Hi, Sorry for the delay I have been working. I do NOT work for Rockstar Marketing. My girlfriend and I like editing wiki and I came across black cherry and saw that Rockstar didn't have a page. We did the french page because my girlfriend is french. I did chris williams because he was a dj in atlanta and I'm from there. If that's a COI let me know and I can delete my edits or the account or whatever is needed. Sorry for the chaos and causing so many paragraphs of complaints Kazmandu2 (talk) 02:55, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Note to incoming admins: there is a lot of evidence to suggest that this is a paid account and one that is used by multiple people. Evidence includes this AfD where they refer to themselves as a "we", as well as the draft page for Draft:Rockstar Marketing, which included material that appears to have been taken direct from a press release and their website. They also uploaded the company's logo to the Commons and put it as fair use, which implies that they own the rights to this image. That they uploaded it to the Commons and not to Wikipedia also suggests that there may be some level of familiarity since the average editor usually does not think to start there. Commons also has a pretty clear walk through guide so there's no way that they wouldn't be aware that they couldn't upload an image without owning the rights to it. I normally assume far better faith for people, but this account's edits were so over the top promotional that I just can't believe that they aren't editing with some sort of COI and I think that it's likely that they could be affiliated with Rockstar Marketing, given the type of promotion this company does and the way they uploaded the company's logo. If this is this company, which I think is likely, I do need to caution them that this is probably the worst way that they could have come on to Wikipedia because it's extremely dishonest. Other companies have tried this (think WikiPR) and they've ended up making not only themselves look bad, but also their clients because by the time everything became public then people knew that they'd hired someone to promote them and selectively edit and create their articles. You can read over some of this here. It is possible for a marketing company to edit responsibly on Wikipedia and this is not the way that you do it.
