Here is the converstion that I have had with my graphic designer (start at the bottom):

Ok, the best idea of a similar article would be that of the Giant Panda. It is a well developed article that encompasses all things dealing with the panda. It doesn't only focus on one topic. If my research gives me info on things such as feeding, behavior, description, evolution, etc like the panda page has I would like to include that type of info too. However, being that this is a conservation bio class I guess most of my info will fall in this section. I will not only be focusing on population or protection/conservation. What ideas did you have as far as comparing it to other endangered species? Do you have any ideas? Maybe if you start with a concept, I can kind of work with it and we can keep modifying it that way.

I know I'm being pretty vague as well. All I've been told so far is to create some graphic--that's it. So, if I can read between the lines, and correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems as if the purpose of your article-thing is to call attention to/raise awareness about the declining or at least very low population. So maybe something that illustrates that or compares it to other "famoulsy" endangered species. Or something that describes how these organizations might/are protecting them?

I know its a bit early in your process, just food for thought.

It is not so much a point or arguement I am trying to make. I just want to inform the readers of this article about the bird's current status in the world. Most of the macaws today are born in captivity. Only about 150 are left in the wild and located only in Bolivia. I guess what I am trying to say is that I will include a lot of facts about the bird's current status. If there is info about how a certain group or organization will or is trying to protect it then it will be included in my article. Does this answer your question? I know I am very vague right now, but I have been busy with other classes. Now that my schedule is freeing up a little I can dedicate more time to reading about the macaw and doing more research.

Unfortunately my understanding of copyright law is very limited. However, it is my understanding that to claim a work as your own you would have to significantly change it from its original form. I'm not sure where you are in terms of progress or even what the form of your final work will be, but is there some point/argument you're trying to make? Or some key things that you want whoever is reading it to really understand? Is it that it's population is drastically decreasing? Is something specific causing it? Does it need a specific habitat that is in some way unique?

Making a graphic that emboldens your issue would have a much stronger impact.

Hi Jordan,

I'm Kristin and I'm doing the macaw page in Dr. Harms class. The only idea I have come up with so far is including the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species logo some way with a picture of the macaw since the macaw is included in this list as an endangered species. I'm not sure if this will violate any copyright laws. You may be more informed with copyright laws than I am. Maybe by changing the color of the logo to the bird's colors or changing one of the symbols to something related to the bird like a feather or beak or side view of the bird's head we can avoid breaking the law. Feel free to bounce any ideas you may have back at me. I appreciate any input you may have.

Thanks Kristin

From your Conservation Biology Professor[edit]

It looks like you have made progress, but you still need to add quite a bit of substantive content to flesh out your outline, as well as additional references for your Conservation Biology assignment. Kyleharms (talk) 15:20, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
