From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A tag has been placed on Vann's Appliances & Electronics requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Karenjc 23:06, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Kellan! I saw from the talk page that you had to leave and weren't able to work on it. I've moved the article into your "userspace" - you can find it at User:Kellan Standley/Vann's Appliances & Electronics. Please add reliably sourced references to the article, then it can be moved back to article-space. Let me know if you have any questions! -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 00:50, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, thanks for your help in keeping my Vann's Appliances & Electronic Article from being removed while I'm trying to figure out Wikipedia and improve that page to make it meet the criteria. I was wondering, now that I've found third-party references and added a few things to explain why Vann's is a relevant enough to company to merit being on Wikipedia, how I could move the article back to the content and off my user profile, and also how I could move it back to my profile for more editing if need be. Thanks for all the help!

Hi, Kellan! I'm moving your question here so we can keep the conversation thread going in one place :)
First, a small tip for you. When you're commenting on a talk page (and this is not for actual articles, just on talk pages), you can sign your name and the date/time by using four tilde characters, as in ~~~~. That automatically expands to be your whole username and the date/time.
As to your question, you can move the article back to mainspace by using the "move" button that should be along the top of your screen, near the "edit this page" button. It should be self-explanatory, but WP:MOVE will give you more info if you need it.
Three additional comments:
  1. LinkedIn is not considered a reliable source. All of those profiles are self-made (as in, I entered all the information on myself for my profile), so they're not "3rd party". In fact, most of the references that you've added to the article are questionable - you may get questions on it, and the article may still not pass "notability". I don't know for sure - I haven't read through it fully - but just wanted to warn you.
  2. Second, you really can't move an article back to your space to edit it, and then back to mainspace. I moved it hear so you would have a copy of it, but if it's in mainspace (and even here), it's available for anyone to edit, restructure, or even delete if it goes through Articles for Deletion.
  3. Third, take a moment to read How to Wikilink. Your article needs some :)
Hope that helps! I've got your page on my watchlist, so you can reply or ask more questions here. Thanks! -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 21:01, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
My screen doesn't have a move button — probably because this is only my 2nd day on Wikipedia? Same reason I can't upload a picture?
I suppose it's not considered legitimate to use the company's own page as a reference?
Also, are you allowed to link externally to their page? I don't know if that would be OK or not since it is a commercial page.

Hello, welcome, and thanks for adding to the encyclopaedia! I looked at the article you created; Pete Vann, and it neads some cleanup in order to make it encyclopaedic. First of all, I'm not convinced that the character meets our notability guideline for people. Are there any references you can add to show he has been the subject of substantial coverage? If he doesn't meet the guideline the the article will probably be deleted. Also, it's written in an informal style, as a story almost, and should attempt to be more neutral - for tips, see: Wikipedia:How to write a great article. You should add some references to cite all the info you add. If you have any questions, dont hesitate to ask them here. Thanks! - Toon05 00:16, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Kellan Standley! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 901 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Pete Vann - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Proposed deletion of Pete Vann[edit]

The article Pete Vann has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

His claim to WP:BIO and WP:GNG seems to be his buisness, which article was deleted. Tagged for notability for 7 years, unresolved.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
