There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Alexf(talk) 12:46, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

This is to request that I be unblocked. I'm not sure but I believe that I was blocked because the name I've been using--kenglazer--is the same as my website. It's a personal website, and I wouldn't have thought there'd be any issue, but I'm happy to change my user name to avoid that issue. My account was most definitely NOT used for advertising or promotion. In fact, I hadn't yet made any changes to any wikipedia article; I had merely described on a talk page (for the article on Oedipus Rex) edits that I was proposing, to get the community's views on whether those edits would be appropriate. I waited more than a week without hearing any concerns about my proposed edit. Even then, I still didn't make my proposed edit but instead, in the interest of making absolutely sure I wasn't crossing any lines, posted a question on the WP help desk (see "Oedipus Rex article: External link to a website page containing a pdf of a table"). The blocking seems unfair here given how careful and respectful of WP rules I was trying to be. I would appreciate being unblocked so I can continue the discussion I was having on the talk page for that article. Thank you.

Decline reason:

You have indeed made an edit to an article, adding a link to your personal site. There's no reason to unblock you unless you explicitly agree to not do so again in the future, per WP:COI and WP:RS. OhNoitsJamie Talk 16:19, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have NOT made a change to the article. Take a look: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oedipus_Rex. Last night I accidentally pressed publish and then immediately removed it. I was trying to figure out a way to insert a link to a pdf, without involving my website. When I saw that my website was on there too, I removed it right away. And then I raised the question on the help desk. The link you sent me shows the page as it looked at an instant in time. If you look at the chain of events, you'll see that my intentions have been completely honorable. I've done everything possible NOT to sneak a self-reference in there. Look at the discussion on the Oedipus Rex talk page. In any event, I'm happy to commit to avoiding any references to my personal website. I think that continued blocking of me would be unfair. Right now it looks as though I can't even respond to a comment made by someone on the talk page.

I've unblocked you given your assurance that you will not attempt to re-add a link to your personal site. I'd also caution against anything resembling promotion of your book. I see there is already a discussion on the article's talk page regarding how to avoid WP:COI. OhNoitsJamie Talk 14:35, 30 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
