The Jones Act, which can be found in section 27 of the Merchant Marine Act of 1920, helps protect American sailors and helps the U.S. maintain a strong economic force in the shipping industry. The act states that goods delivered from one part of the U.S. to another part of the U.S. must be carried out by American ships that were built on American soil and manned with an American crew. This plays a huge role in the American economy and provides thousands of jobs for U.S. citizens. If the Jones Act did not exist, then most likely jobs would be outsourced to countries who would work for cheaper compensation. This would drastically damage the American Economy and could downsize the U.S. maritime industry considerably.
