Shishkarev draft

[edit]

I've just had a closer look at the Shishkarev draft. I'm rather skeptical about quite a few of the sources - the various biographies hosted at Russian "people" websites (such as Global MSK.ru) all seem to be almost literal copies of Shishkarev's own biography at http://www.shishkarev.ru/bio - I doubt they have been subject to fact-checking or editorial oversight. They should probably be considered primary sources. Newspapers such as Kommersant or Izvestia are much better sources. Unfortunately I don't speak Russian, and the Google translation of some of the sources was rather strange - the Izvestia article in particular was almost incomprehensible to me. I did a quick Google News search for Shishkarev, and while many relevant results were hidden behind paywalls, the results did include some English-language coverage in the Moscow Times and Kommersant, the latter more about Shishkarev's company than about himself but confirming that he was still a co-owner in 2011. I also found rumafia.com/person.php?id=121, a highly dubious but interesting website; it doesn't look like a reliable source (and is blacklisted by Wikipedia so I cannot directly link to it!), but it does cite newspaper sources for its various claims about Shishkarev, for example about his father's role in Delo's rise to semi-control of Novorossiysk port. The main source seems to be a "Versiya" article from 17 May 2010 and a Novaya Gazeta article from 7 June 2010 - they might prove very helpful. I assume you speak Russian - could you have a look at them? Yours, Huon (talk) 00:02, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You! I guess i see the main problem now - unreliable sources mostly. I'll work on that. I jst hope i find enough English-language sources to back up the article. Kind regards! Key157 (talk) 15:37, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the delay; I was rather busy otherwise and only today had the time to take another look at the Shishkarev draft. I have removed some unsourced claims but left the awards section which desperately needs some reliable sources to back it up. I also seem not to have answered your help desk question about the sidebar - that's an "infobox" created by the {{infobox politician}} template. That template page describes the available parameters in detail. I had just taken the infobox for the current Duma speaker, copied it and moodified it to fit Shishkarev.

I have nominated the new article for the Did you know section on Wikipedia's main page. I have never nominated an article for that before and cannot tell how it will turn out, but you may want to keep an eye on the discussion. The nomination itself is at Template:Did you know nominations/Sergey Shishkarev. Huon (talk) 16:33, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
