Islam and Sikhism

[edit]

Hi Khari, I think that information either needs to be tested on the talk page before inclusion, references added or is incorrect. Thanks--Sikh-history (talk) 09:06, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

HI Khari, I think Sikhism uses heaven and hell as a metaphor rather than an actual place.--Sikh-history (talk) 20:15, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Your heaven hell addition sound good. Thanks --Sikh-history (talk) 15:27, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Great Work

[edit]

Hi Khari, I think I read somewhere that Guru Nanak had both Islamic and Hindu teachers, as was the custom those days. This was to ensure that Nanak was conversant in many languages as they were from a trading family. As a result Nanak may have become fully conversant with the Quaran. --Sikh-history (talk) 19:51, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, by the way its Qur'an, not Quaran Khari Sharif (talk) 15:44, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Predestination

[edit]

Do you think the sentence Sikhs are instructed to neither desire heaven nor fear hell, both being the fruit of ego, but to transcend both should be left in? I think so. As a Sikh I have always been not to fear/desire heaven or hell. --Sikh-history (talk) 15:54, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think it needs to be able to define itself without relating to other faith systems; but, if that's your own personal view, I'd say leave it as it is for now Khari Sharif (talk) 16:26, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Various Edits

[edit]

Hi Kharif. I saw that much text had been deleted and some added to the Sikh Islam article, all I tried to do was reistate it. I am sorry if I did not add back all your additions.

The story of Guru Nanak and Mecca is used by many Punjabi Islamic scholars to ensure that those Muslims who some times go to tombs and even Mecca itself do not forget that God is everywhere and hat Mecca is not to be treated like an idol. I will find verifiable references, but I am afraid you will have to rely on Sikh chroniclers. I think Mcleod on Guru Nanak is a good reference. I think also there are variations on this story. the story I have been told by Islamic scholars is that Guru Nanak said, point my feet in the direction that God is not. --Sikh-history (talk) 21:12, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We need to have Islamic sources none of the non-muslim sources you suggest, the story of jumping Kaaba is seen by Muslims as a joke, even also by those Islamic Scholars who told you this story I suspect Khari Sharif (talk) 16:53, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Khari/Khalsaburg No we don't that is not a requirement for wikipedia. Thanks --Sikh-history (talk) 13:36, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
