Replaceable non-free use File:Manning Warren black and white headshot.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Manning Warren black and white headshot.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:44, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!
Bless, somebody finally found the red flags I was leaving everywhere. I was wondering if anyone ever would.
I'm only too aware of the policies around bios of living persons and conflicts of interest. I would have loved to avoid editing that article per the instructions, but the subject of the article made it very much part of my job duties, and he isn't interested in the Wikipedia terms of service. Basically someone edited the page a few years ago and took out a bunch of stuff (merited) and he lost his mind and made me put everything back in and "lock his page down" and make sure nobody else could make any changes to it. I told him that wasn't really possible, but again, he wasn't interested. He actively monitored the page to make sure I was making the changes he wanted in a speedy fashion, and so I left some little notes around about "not making changes to the page" and worded them in such a way that I hoped someone would eventually figure out that the whole thing was one big content violation.
It would honestly please me to no end if the entire page went up in smoke. He's not a public figure and he doesn't need a page - I'm 99% sure one of his previous assistants or a student made it for him on his orders. I also know that photo is in violation. I tried to explain that to him but he tried to tell me that he owns the photo and is the subject and therefore owns the copyright.
All I can say is I no longer work for him so I am no longer in charge of maintaining his page and will not be doing so. This isn't even my main Wikipedia account - I created it solely for this. Any changes that are made in the future will be done by him or a relative or someone in his employ - I cannot stress enough how much of a non-public figure he is. More power to you with whatever you want to do, but anything I did with this was under specific instruction and consistent annoyance. I did what I could to call it to someone's attention without outright refusing to follow orders (funny, but not the hill I wanted to die on) or directly reporting it (still risky).
My life advice: Don't work for lawyers. Kim S. (talk) 20:34, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
