Konstable's RfA thanks

Hi KnowledgeOfSelf, thank you for supporting me in my RfA, which was closed as successful last Wednesday with a unanimous support of (47/0/0). I will do my best to help keep Wikipedia clean, green and vandal free. Once again, thank you! --Konstable 14:52, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gothic Fiction Vandalism

[edit]

The annon user who's edit to Gothic fiction you reverted, has just done it again, despite your warning to him.Natalieduerinckx 15:06, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for telling me, but since you reverted the vandalism yourself, please warn the vandal, and report him to WP:AIV if he continues to vandalize after a final warning, instead of at my talk page. Thanks. KOS | talk 15:19, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another test template question

[edit]

When you said "except the blocked user template", did that also exclude {{test4}} (and {{test4a-n}} and {{test4-n}}, etc.)? —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  21:43, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No those are fine to use. What I meant was that you shouldn't use the {{test5}}, {{test6}}, {{test7}}, {{vblock}} etc, etc. Also you should not deny a users request to be unblocked unless you are an admin. Hope that clears it up more! KOS | talk 21:48, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, it's not quite the same, but I'll try. The thing is IRC usually takes me about half an hour to connect to it, by which time I'll have passed out, or perhaps died. Keep trying the Skype (restarting it I'm sure you've tried) and I'll try IRC. But really it's nothing pressing I need to discuss, I was just getting so bloody bored, I've been the only poster in there since about 11 this morning (my time). Just wanted to catch up ya know. -- Banes 22:14, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Very well, if you insist. I hold you solely responsible for ruining my precious edit count by the way, it'll reflect poorly now for my rfa next week. By the way I'm on #wikipedia now and I'd appreciate it if you'd come over there, since I'll be tempted to tackle some vandals if I go into vandalism. -- Banes 22:19, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

KOS? I am unfamiliar with that word but if this reads true it would see you feel I was seriously attempting to mimic or imitate you? It was all done for your amusement but unfortunately you were correct and my plan was foiled but a user spotting me immediately. I apolgise and assure you it merely was a (poor) attempt to make you smile after our chat yesterday. Seriously my bad. Apologies wont happen again :( Glen 04:21, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Banes

[edit]

Hi KOS.

Like I've told Impi, I'm afraid I'm not really sure of the actually final reasons of why Banes left. I know he was becoming more and more busy, and he didn't have as much access to a computer as he would like. He did say that it wasn't anything serious or any bitter feelings that made him leave, which is good. He also wanted me to make it known that his departure is not his taking a stand against the cabal or anything like that. I guess that sometimes, people just have to move on for awhile :( However, he did hint that he will be back sometime.....

Hope this answers your question, and if I can be of anymore help, then just tell me :)

Question: when you write "During 1700's, British books...", do you mean 1700s, as in 1700-1709, or "the 18th century" (1700-1799)? Biruitorul 17:59, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The "1700s" has always meant "the 18th century" to me. So it is safe to assume that I meant the 18th century. KOS | talk 18:03, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK, well, to avoid confusion, I changed it, as 1700s on Wikipedia means the decade rather than the century. Biruitorul 23:06, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Orane, it has been a while, at least seeing your message gave me something to smile about. I've been busy myself working on an article The Boondock Saints. Check it out! :) KOS | talk 07:32, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Great article. I'm impressed. I gave it a minor copy edit like you asked, though there wasn't much to do, given that it was well-written. I replaced "block quote" with "cquote." Not everyone loves how the latter looks, so feel free to change it if you like. There is, however, one sentence that I find confusing: "After a limited theatrical release, the film was in only five theaters for one week, and poor reviews; the movie proved divisive among some viewers." Do you think you could clarify, please? Thanks. Good luck with the article (I'll vote as soon as the sentence is clarified :P). Orane (talkcont.) 03:34, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Orane, I appreciate it! Sure I can clarify that sentence for you: "After a limited theatrical release, the film was in only five theaters for one week" (that is easy :P), and poor reviews;(the film received poor reviews while it was in theaters) the movie proved divisive among some viewers." (It proved divisive because it did receive a few positive reviews and because a lot of fans did like the film while a lot did not.) Hope that helps, again thanks. KOS | talk 10:56, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm about to get a bit technical (and probably confusing). I understand the sentence now, but if your explanation is precise, then the sentence structure needs improvement. The first part is ok: "After a limited theatrical release, the film was in only five theaters for one week." However, here is where the problem lies: "and poor reviews; ...." This part is a sentence fragment. It needs to read something like "After a limited theatrical release, the film was in only five theaters for one week, where it received poor critical reviews." After the part about poor reviews, you need a full stop, and not a semi-colon. A semi colon is supposed to join ideas that are so connected that a full stop would do a disservise. In your case, the points about poor critical reviews and divisiveness among viewrs are two sepearte points, and deserve a period between them. It should read thus: "After a limited theatrical release, the film was in only five theaters for one week, where it received poor critical reviews. The film also proved divisive among viewers." Or, you could have "After a limited theatrical release, the film was in only five theaters for one week, where it received poor critical reviews; however the film proved divisive among viewers."
I don't know if all this make sense. And you are willing to get a second opinion if you want. Also, congrats on the article's promotion. Sorry I was too late to vote. Orane (talkcont.) 20:24, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I notice that you gave "Rana asif2004" a warning yesterday (and have admin) ... So you I thought I should mention that said user has spent the past 23 hours systematically blanking & rewriting several articles related to the Bangladesh liberation to make them pro-West Pakistan (which is not merely POV but, according to the references he is systematically trying to remove, patently ridiculous) -- all marked as minor btw. These are the only edits since the user became active yesterday, so ... assuming good faith he might contribute reasonably to articles he's not so (to be blunt) rabidly concerned with, but he also may not be concerned with anything else. --Invisifan 11:37, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to put the {{subst:test4|Equestrianism}} vandal tag on Maywither's talk page, but you've got his page blocked.

Can you either put the tag on for me, lock the page he's vandalizing, or else just block him? He's vandalized the Equestrianism page for about the 10 millionth time and we horse people are sick of this crap. This is a page that kids will run into and the image is totally inappropriate. Thanks for your reply, yeah, I put a message on the vandalism page and another admin got to it. This Maywither person drives me nuts. I don't think many, if any, editors of the assorted horse articles are admins, so maybe if a couple of you could put Equestrianism on your watch page, just to keep an eye out for Maywither's little prank? I thought he'd gotten over doing this. It's really getting quite repetitious, I wish he'd just give it up. Many thanks, muchas gracias and all that. Actually, any chance of flat out deleting the photo he keeps putting up? I mean, I know wikipedia is not censored, but we also don't usually post soft core porn, either...? Minor Edits

[edit]

Just wanted to remind you that anything involving deletion of text is generally not considered a minor edit. From Minor edits: "Reverting a page is not likely to be considered minor under most circumstances. When the status of a page is disputed, and particularly if an edit war is brewing, it is better not to mark any edit as minor. Reverting blatant vandalism is an exception to this rule." Sir Isaac Lime 23:15, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help me

[edit]

I have two obsolete Wikipedia user profiles, how do I go about getting those deleted?DayKart 22:12, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm afraid you'll have to be more specific with your request. What exactly do you need? KOS | talk 01:30, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
user:atheistrabbi and user:Daykart are past incarnations of me on the pedia; I will no longer be using them. Granted, it's a negligible amount of server space; but is it possible for an administrator to delete them?DayKart 02:29, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The accounts themselves can not be "deleted", though you can request that the user page for both accounts be deleted, or you can just leave a note on each page stating that they are your accounts. I'd recommend that you read WP:SOCK. You can ask Essjay if he could help you, he knows far more about the situation you require help with, compared to myself. I'm sure he would oblige. Hope this helps, cheers. KOS | talk 02:51, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If all you're needing is the userpages deleted, we can do that with no problem. As KOS said, we can't actually delete the accounts themselves. One big thing to be sure of is that you don't use the old accounts; you're very welcome to create a new account and leave your old one behind, but if you continue using any of the three, you will likely run into problems. So, the quick answer is: If you need the userpages deleted, let us know we'll do that. If it's the actual accounts, there's nothing we can do. Essjay (Talk) 03:12, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is no sockpuppetry involved; I have no intent of ever again making edits as user:Daykart or as user:atheistrabbi, and have in fact forgotten the passwords for those two accounts. My request is for those user pages to be deleted, and henceforth I only intend on using the undersigned account.DayKart 07:29, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize, I didn't mean to imply that you were using sockpuppets, I just suggested that you read WP:SOCK so that you may come across other alternatives to deleting the user pages of each account. There are in fact multiple reasons a sockpuppet may be used on Wikipedia, and they are listed at WP:SOCK. However, you can put a {{db-userreq}} tag on the userpages, and an admin will come along and delete them. A more full explanation can be found here. KOS | talk 16:53, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You deleted that article really fast!!! The one that you said was nonsense. Mrld 01:50, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another Chance

[edit]

Really, couldn't you have given the vandal another chance? You could have given one more warning. Isn't there some sort of policy about giving 3 warnings? Mrld 01:58, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No he received his one and only warning, again created the attack page, and therefore was blocked. "Legal threats, death threats, and issues of similar severity, in particular, may result in a block without warning." The attack pages created on that person were repulsive and 100% unneeded on Wikipedia. I'm sure that vandal would feel more at home at the Encyclopedia Dramatica. :P KOS | talk 02:05, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
May your blessings outnumber
The shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go.
an Irish blessing

Hey, since you're an admin, can I ask you to copy+paste that to User talk:Phaedriel? Thank you! —  $PЯINGrαgђ  19:28, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pleasure

[edit]

Hey no need for the thanks, it was a pleasure looking out for Kirk and the 'docks whilst you were 'away', darn glad you made it back though ;) --Alf melmac 13:13, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A very Californian RfA thanks from Luna Santin

[edit]
Thanks for your support in my not-so-recent RfA, which succeeded with a final tally of (97/4/4)! I've never been able to accept compliments gracefully, and the heavy support from this outstanding community left me at a complete loss for words -- so, a very belated thank you for all of your kind words.

I have done and will continue to do the utmost to serve the community in this new capacity, wherever it may take me, and to set an example others might wish to follow in. With a little luck and a lot of advice, this may be enough. Maybe someday the enwiki admins of the future will look back and say, "Yeah, that guy was an admin." Hopefully then they don't start talking about the explosive ArbComm case I got tied into and oh what a drama that was, but we'll see, won't we?

Surely some of you have seen me in action by now; with that in mind, I openly invite and welcome any feedback here or here -- help me become the best editor and sysop I can be.

Again, thank you. –Luna Santin

Only a little late! Haven't seen you about as often, lately, if memory serves, but I do keep you in mind. The wiki is definitely better off, for your presence. – Luna Santin (talk) 00:49, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Heh 7 months isn't too long. :) I thank you for the warm comment, I truly appreciate it! KOS | talk 01:16, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You rock, Steve! ;)

[edit]

It's so good to see you around, whacking vandals like in the old days, Steve! Amazing how much time has passed since this and this, isn't it? ;) And it seems like yesterday to me! Anyway, I feel safer with my wiki-brother around ;) Hugz, Phaedriel - 23:35, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for Alternative Risk topic

Impersonation

[edit]

Just a heads up, ActWonActToo (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) is claiming to be you on WP:ANI. Might want to take a look at the situation. --Cyde Weys 15:24, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Glad you're unblocked and back in working order. Can you please either confirm that ActWonActToo (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) is your account, or tell us that it is an imposter so it can be blocked? Thanks. Thatcher131 22:43, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, yes it is my account. I'll make that known on it's userpage. KOS | talk 22:45, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, I'm glad that this was sorted out relatively quickly. Welcome back :) Haukur 07:47, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, I'm just glad I was around when it happened, being able to report it at AN/I helped greatly. Thanks for the welcome back as well. KOS | talk 22:13, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
