Hi there, this is an urgent massage a user by the name of User:Omo007 has added categories on to User:Omo007's userpage. I know I want to remove all of the categories but it won't let me. 1824 vs. 1826 introduction of Imperial Units
I noticed your addition, which I think is great, however I'd like to debate the issue of which year should be referenced. The weights and measures law that created Imperial Units was passed in 1824, to go into effect in 1825, which was later pushed back to 1826. Shouldn't the introduction date be when it was first used in commerce, which was 1826? I've not used the introduction template before, so am unaware of what rules are used in cases like this. Can you provide some insight as to what those conventions are, and why you think 1824 is the better date to reference? I think this is an important semantic issue, and want to learn more. - @PetesGuide: That's a good question. I think of something being "introduced" just when it's public in some way--published in a book, passed as a law, etc. Maybe if something were in a private journal in (e.g.) 1822 but weren't published until 1836, it was introduced in 1836. Peanut as nuts
Hi Koavf,
Regarding this revert. I appreciate your distinction between nuts and legumes and agree that a peanut should not be categorised, or otherwise encyclopaedically defined, as a nut. However, the broader purpose of hatnotes is to help readers locate the articles they are seeking. It is not an appropriate place for technicalities. As such, I'd like you to self-revert and restore my improved version of the hatnote on the Peanuts article.
The Peanut article already raises the distinction in its third paragraph, and future readers of the Peanut article too shall learn about it. This paragraph brings me to my point, which is, that it is linguistically appropriate to refer to peanuts as nuts (in common English language usage, and in culinary contexts, peanuts are usually referred to as nuts"). The Wiktionary usage example that helps define "nut" as a word even uses "peanut" (wiktionary:nut).
Before my unfortunate encounter with the Peanuts article about the comic, I myself had not heard of the word "legume". This, despite having learned English at an early age, and having spoken it on a daily basis for almost ten years. As such, I believe it would be likely for users to find the article easier, and quicker, by disambiguating peanut from a comic book as "the nut", not as "the legume". --Krinkle (talk) 00:45, 9 December 2017 (UTC)

BCE editnotice template
Hello Koavf. I looked for a template similar to {{use dmy}} for eras but couldn't find it. I then noticed that an editnotice existed for Abraham (using Template:Editnotices/Page/Abraham). I tried to create a similar Template:Editnotices/Page/Tetragrammaton but then realized that the template editor right is necessary. Since you created the Abraham one, I wondered if you'd like to also create this one, if you also consider that it is warranted. Lately someone invoked MOS:ERA in an edit summary while converting dates to BC/AD, but the article already used BCE/CE consistently except for one instance of AD and one instance of BC, which I fixed after reverting their change. Alphabetization

Again
Athletes who played sports in Indiana are not automatically from Indiana. Going to school or playing professional sports somewhere does not automatically make a person from that place. That is a longtime consensus here and if you bothered to check, other states don't categorize sportspeople in such a way. I have reverted this in the past[4] and am doing so again. - The one reply is pretty clear about the difference between sportspeople from and sportspeople in. 49 other states don't do it that way. City or town article notable people sections don't list someone as from Foo only because they went to college there. That's a consensus that I pointed out to you on my talk page. In some cases you incorrectly took categories categorized as 'Sportspeople in Indiana' and changed them to a from Indiana category. Taxonomic authorities
Hi, I reverted the edit you made on the page Ceratonereis but not because I believe that you were editing other than in good faith. It's a convention for lists in these types of articles, lists of subordinate taxa such as species in a genus or genera in a family to have the authorities in small text. There is currently a proposal to have this convention formally adopted as policy, see Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Organisms#Sources and authorities. Talk:American Utopia
The article you have created is currently start class. There are plenty more upcoming albums that don't have future in the class but assessments of their length and content. How we can't assess the class of an article when it's already start class is beyond me. I'm well aware "future" is an option and I don't have a problem with it existing, but American Utopia is a start class article as it is and thus should say that. Regardless, I have rated its importance low because it does not appear to be of significant cultural importance yet/if ever. Hello, I removed the NPR article because, while generally true, the page in my view should remain as politically neutral and the article mentioned is the title of a single article describing the results of a single poll, not a summary of general public opinion conducted during the president's tenure. - @Koavf: My only objection is that Trump's widespread disapproval has been seen and tracked since day 1, and reiterated in the articles published. I think it's a little too early to say that a majority think his presidency has been a failure because it has not been tracked as frequently, and as a president, Trump is still fairly new. “Category:Basketball coaches from State Foo”
Hi - I noticed that you added a number of schools and/or professional team coach categories to this (example, adding “Basketball coaches from Indiana” to “Indiana Hoosiers men’s basketball coaches”). People who coached at schools or pro teams in these states are not valid subcategories of these categories. You have a mix of long-time coaches and people who move through on their way to another job in another state, so you just can’t assume they will be “from” that state. - @L293D: I have been for awhile and contributed a lot but being an admin requires some other skills such as patience, trust from the community, understanding of policy, discretion, etc. Simply editing a lot or for a long time doesn't ensure those things. I may have some of them, I may lack some of them. At the very least, it requires someone to be willing to do it and at the moment, I don't have the ability to dedicate time to those sorts of issues here on en.wp. Dashes rather than hyphens in citation titles
Hi Koavf. As far as I can recall, you change hyphens to en dashes in article text and citations (I think I've even see you run a script that changes hyphens to en dashes). An editor, Life of Tau, disagrees that hyphens should be changed to en dashes, and has made a bit of a deal about it at God's Plan (song) when I changed them to en dashes. I know it's not a requirement, but I also don't believe it's a requirement we replicate exactly what a source's title is in the citation title parameter. If you know some bit of a better reason/standard for why en dashes are changed to hyphens (other than MOS:ENDASH), can you please drop a line at User talk:Life of Tau? It'd be much appreciated. Ellipses in quoted material
Hi Koavf, I assume you're quite well-versed in how we use quotes on Wikipedia and where to use ellipses for omission of quoted material and where we don't. A user by the name of GWFrog thinks here that ellipses are required at the start of quotes because that somehow to them means "omission of quoted text" (which I quoted to them as part of WP:MOSQUOTE), whereas there is no omission in that quote—we have just chosen to start quoting the material at a certain point. If you get the time, can you please explain to them that these ellipses are not required? Because I don't really see these ellipses used all over Wikipedia every time somebody chooses to start the quotation of a source at a certain point. Taking up part of a quote is not an omission, and I'm surprised that this user has been given copyediting awards without understanding this. Thank you! Ss112 19:00, 8 March 2018 (UTC)

The standard for charts sections is to have the reference next to the chart name and not the peak, and generally the peak position column should not be that wide, so we break the value with a line break. Template:Album chart even generates the reference next to the chart and not the peak, because when more charts are added, if the reference is next to the number value, it will not sort correctly (and this would be an WP:ACCESS concern, would it not?). So 2 will appear before 20 instead of before 3. (Try it out for yourself with dummy entries.) I've added chart wikitables to pages you've created or extensively edited before and you didn't seem to have an issue with it then, so I'm confused as to why you do now. In my mind, the fact you are citing is that it reached "2", not that it was on [X] chart, so that is the fact that needs to be cited. Regarding the width of the table, there is no real prospect of it being too wide to render, so I don't see the necessity for the line break. Upcoming changes to wikitext parsing
Hello,
There will be some changes to the way wikitext is parsed during the next few weeks. It will affect all namespaces. You can see a list of pages that may display incorrectly at Special:LintErrors. Since most of the easy problems have already been solved at the English Wikipedia, I am specifically contacting tech-savvy editors such as yourself with this one-time message, in the hope that you will be able to investigate the remaining high-priority pages during the next month.
There are approximately 10,000 articles (and many more non-article pages) with high-priority errors. The most important ones are the articles with misnested tags and table problems. Some of these involve templates, such as infoboxes, or the way the template is used in the article. In some cases, the "error" is a minor, unimportant difference in the visual appearance. In other cases, the results are undesirable. You can see a before-and-after comparison of any article by adding ?action=parsermigration-edit to the end of a link, like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Foss?action=parsermigration-edit (which shows a difference in how {{infobox ship}} is parsed).

Hello, Koavf, and thank you for your recent clean-up of African diaspora. The first sentence of the article ("The African diaspora is made up of communities throughout the world that peoples descended peoples from Africa, predominantly to the Americas and among other areas around the globe.") seems to be a bit of a mess, though. Maybe it's missing a word or two? Or maybe you were interrupted in the middle of an edit and never finished it? It's a big improvement over what was there, but it seems a shame not to finish it. ACTRIAL:
- WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.
Deletion tags
- Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.
Backlog drive:
- A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.
Editathons
- There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.
Paid editing - new policy
- Now that ACTRIAL is ACREQ, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. There is a new global WMF policy that requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.
Subject-specific notability guidelines
- The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
- Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
Not English
- A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.
News
- Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.

Hi. I was trying to follow the guidance on blank lines of MOS:INDENTGAP in an edit in the Pedro Perebal AfD talk but it didn't work. Editor seems to think t in "the" is a special exception to normal caps
Hi Koavf, I know I've asked you to help me explain several things to editors before, and it looks like there's another instance of this. The editor Wikisian seems to believe that the production company Off the Dock, which redirects to Lakeshore Entertainment, is some kind of special exception because its "literal name" and "literature" use a capital t for "the". I've explained it's not an exception to normal capitalisation rules, but they don't seem to get it. This editor has been around since 2011 but doesn't seem to get very simple things like this. We had a disagreement over overlinking several months back as well. They also are trying to use WP:NCCAPS to claim that "proper name" means we capitalise all first letters in a title. - Why are you lying? There is obviously 3 editors that opposed a caption, including Corky who reverted you the first time. And even if it were true, that is not consensus. Alec Stevens
Dear Koavf,
I added a photo to the Alec Stevens (comics artist and illustrator) article this morning, only to find the entire second half of the article (and all external links) edited out of it. Do I need a wiki editor to put the relevant info back in, and with footnotes? Would you be willing to help? I can provide the necessary links, fact-checking, etc.
For example, this line was removed:

Much of the second portion of the deleted article had to do with the Christian books, graphic novels, tracts, and the like published under his Calvary Comics imprint over the past 18 years, as well as his musical work in secular venues as well as serving as guitarist at Times Square Church from 2010-16, not to mention evangelistic and Gospel music work in Nigeria, West Africa in 2002.

I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day.
