June 2009[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to make constructive contributions to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to List of social networking websites, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and read the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Please heed the notice in the edit screen: "ONLY place entries here that are links to actual Wikipedia articles about notable social networking sites" ZimZalaBim talk 15:06, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Per the notice above:
Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did to List of social networking websites. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. --bonadea contributions talk 17:27, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Help re. Kiwibox[edit]

{{helpme}} I posted a new article, Kiwibox. In the past they have been deleted. I want to make sure I dont violate anything. I tried doing it in my sandbox but the page kept being reverted. Kronikle88 (talk) 17:28, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that the article will be 'speedy deleted', because it does have some sources to establish notability. It might be nominated for deletion, but if that happens, it will be discussed for 7 days, and you will have the chance to fix things up.
Even in the worst case - if it is deleted - don't panic. An administrator can restore deleted articles to your own user area, where you can work on them further - see WP:USERFY.
The main issues with the article are;
  • Some of the references are blogs, and these are not reliable sources,
  • Not all of the facts have citations to verify the information - such facts should be either sourced, or removed
  • The sections on each year are very short, which makes the layout awkward. It would be better to combine some of those, by having sections called (for example) "1999 - 2002", "2003 - 2007", "2008 - present".
Looking at your contributions, I can't see that you have used a user sandbox area. I suggest you create a subpage, and work on things there. For example, if I put [[User:Kronikle88/mytestpage]] below, it will look like this;

User:Kronikle88/mytestpage

It is a red link, because the page does not exist. If you click on that link, you can make a page there - and because it is in your userspace, you can take your time, work on things, and build articles prior to making them 'live'.
I hope that this helps; for more help, you can either;
  • Leave a message on my own talk page; OR
  • Use a {{helpme}} - please create a new section at the end of your own talk page, put {{helpme}}, and ask your question - remember to 'sign' your name by putting ~~~~ at the end; OR
  • Talk to us live, with this or this.
Best wishes,  Chzz  ►  17:39, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much. I will work on this.

You've welcome. Please do come and say hello - we're a friendly bunch, and it's often easier to get help through live chat, rather than messages. Just click on the link; I'm online right now.

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Kiwibox has been reverted.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove unwanted links and spam from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. The external links I reverted were matching the following regex rule(s): \byoutube\.com (links: http://www.youtube.com/kiwiboxdotcom). If the external link you inserted or changed was to a media file (e.g. a sound or video file) on an external server, then note that linking to such files may be subject to Wikipedia's copyright policy and therefore probably should not be linked to. Please consider using our upload facility to upload a suitable media file. Video links are also strongly deprecated by our guidelines for external links, partly because they're useless to people with slow internet connections.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 18:55, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 18:09, 15 June 2009 (UTC) I am currently an Intern who has been editing wikipedia for a few years now. I have not made many contributions but enough to try and help one of my friends at a marketing firm. I will be here for several days now- their username was MJWMedia, which is permanent blocked. I'm not concerned about them- however I would like to edit a few pages, and I can not because my IP address has been blocked because of MJWMedias negligence. is there any way this can be taken off for me?[reply]

Request reason:

My IP is blocked. I am currently an Intern who has been editing wikipedia for a few years now. I have not made many contributions but enough to try and help one of my friends at a marketing firm. I will be here for several days now- their username was MJWMedia, which is permanent blocked. I'm not concerned about them- however I would like to edit a few pages, and I can not because my IP address has been blocked because of MJWMedias negligence. is there any way this can be taken off for me?

Decline reason:

Decline redundant request - only 1 unblock request at a time please (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 20:20, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

This blocked user's request to have autoblock on their IP address lifted has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request.

Block message:

Autoblocked because your IP address was recently used by "Mjwmedia". The reason given for Mjwmedia's block is: " Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully. Why can't I edit Wikipedia? Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy. Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username? Probably not. See Wikipedia:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead. What can I do now? You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following: Add the text {{unblock-spamun}} below this message box. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must: Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked. Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked. If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block. ".

  • Blocking administrator: not provided.

Decline reason: This autoblock will soon expire. ANY future edits from this or any account that even come close to resembling the edits of User:MJW Media et al will result in an immediate indef block for WP:MEAT (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 12:17, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Comment for reviewing admin: I blocked Mjwmedia (talk · contribs), who is clearly MJW Media, as a role account evidently here to use Wikipedia for promotion. As this user, Kronikle88, introduced File:Valli kane & vagnini logo.gif, and edited with Mjwmedia on the deleted spam article Valli Kane & Vagnini it is apparent that they are connected. JohnCD (talk) 20:13, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Comment for reviewing admin:JohnCD MJW Media was placing an article in, not as spam... but they were working on re writing that article to an unbiased fashion. I placed a hold to help them with it. As it was also a new account they were not able to upload the image, so I helped them upload an image. I even spent time in http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=wikipedia-en-help, yesterday and was told to let the article be deleted, and work on fixing the article with MJW Media in the sandbox. However the sandbox and account was deleted. I understand the accounts deletion as it is against wikipedia username policies; however the name can be changed, and there was no rightful reason for my account to be banned. I have personally placed several corporate entities into Wikipedia in an extremely unbiased, and non-advertised fashion, you can look at my previous postings your self. As valli kane and vagnini is a notable, and one of the largest civil rights and employment law firms in the US- I was merrily trying to help MJW media create this in the most unbiased way, as they had originally copied text from the valli kane and vagnini website. Currently, my only concern is having free access to edit on wikipedia, not about valli kane, or mjwmedia.
It's not just a question of user name, it's a question of motivation. In writing about their clients, MJW Media have a conflict of interest, and if you are working for them so have you. From WP:Conflict of interest:
If you fit either of these descriptions:
  1. you are receiving monetary or other benefits or considerations to edit Wikipedia as a representative of an organization (whether directly as an employee or contractor of that organization, or indirectly as an employee or contractor of a firm hired by that organization for public relations purposes); or
  2. you expect to derive monetary or other benefits or considerations from editing Wikipedia; for example, by being an owner, officer, or other stakeholder of a company or other organization about which you are writing;
then you are very strongly encouraged to avoid editing Wikipedia in areas where there is a conflict of interest that may make your edits non-neutral (biased).
As an anyone-can-edit encyclopedia Wikipedia is extremely sensitive to the danger of being being used for promotion. See also Wikipedia:Best practices for editors with conflicts of interest. JohnCD (talk) 20:51, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Comment for reviewing admin:JohnCD I understand exactly what you are saying and completely agree, however I am not currently working for them. I am a student at CUNY, Queens College who happens to be interning for a mortgage bank that is currently subleasing from the same office space. They are all on the same networks; and i was just asked to help from my little background knowledge of Wikipedia over the last several years. If you noticed from the edits, they were all minor, as well as the picture upload. Nor am i receiving any monetary benefits for helping them out- as I dont fit under either of those descriptions I don't see any right to have my account personally banned. Hypothetically speaking, If it were the case - I sure wouldn't be upset or arguing over the matter I would simply create a new account, but I have built a history over the last several years with the various articles and edits I have made I would really like to keep that.
I don't call this a minor edit, trying to insert MJW's client into Paris, Texas. If you are not paid, you still have a COI in helping your "friends at a marketing firm" who are. The autoblock should only last 24 hours; I will not make the suggestion to the reviewing admin, which I thought of doing, that you should be blocked for longer, but after this you should stay clear of MJW and their clients, and avoid anything that could give the slightest suspicion of COI editing or promotion. Point your friends to WP:LUC for why attempts to use Wikipedia for promotion often backfire. JohnCD (talk) 22:10, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. i'll work it out.
