Between the months of April to July 1994, a span of 100 days, a Rwandan Genocide was going on. The members of the Hutu started to attack the Tutsi. Killing approximately 800,000 Rwandans. The Tutsi's were unable to fight back fairly because they were out numbered by the Hutu 80 to 20%. Throughout the 100 days genocide spread rapidly across the country. Tutsi's were brutality murdered and left on the streets, the lawns and their homes.
The Genocide started because the Tutsi's were basically praised by Belgium. They favored the Tutsi because they looked more like Europeans than the Hutus did. The Tutsi's were mostly slim and tall while the Hutus were shorter and stronger.
The Tutsi had more cattle and land, the Hutu were mostly peasants and had to fin for themselves.
On April 6, 1994 a plane carrying Habyarimana and Burundi's president Cyprien Ntaryamira was shot down, this is still an unsolved murder, there were no survivors. Some people blame the Hutu while other blame the RPF.
The same day the presidential guard together with members of the Rwandan armed forces and Hutu militia groups known as the Interahahmwe.
Thousands of Rwandans fled their homes, mostly Tutsi's trying to get away from the genocide.
By early July RPF gained back control over the country not all but most. In response 2 million Rwandans fled Rwanda going to refugee camps on Congo and other surrounding countries.
