user 207.69.138.137

Someone with the ip 207.69.138.137 has been committing petty vandalism (see article Certiorari), and I have seen you have warned this user before. Can you block this individual.--Bww11bww11 22:35, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

RFCN

Why? I already knew the user's explanation of what his name meant and his reason for picking it was. I wasn't looking for it to be blocked, I just wanted to know what other people thought. I wasn't looking for him to have to change his name... I was just requesting comments on the username. I made him aware of the RfC, and he could have commented there if he wanted. I'll continue to ignore all rules if it helps me. But you're more than welcome to choose a different way. Mahalo. --Ali'i 19:50, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Well, I just read the top part of that page again. So basically you all are saying it's not really a "Request for comments" page, but rather a "request to have this name blocked or changed" page. I wanted neither... I wanted comments on the name. I guess I'll just have to use the admin's noticeboard from now on. Mahalo, Kukini. --Ali'i 21:53, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Podiobooks et. al.

Sounds good. I also advised Evo that WP:DRV is a possibility if he does not agree with the deletion.--Isotope23 12:28, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

I think, based on the article I deleted, that your approach is the correct one in this case. WP:DRV is pretty much intended to be an mechanism for reviewing a deletion or AFD close where it appears the decision was done out of process or against consensus. I don't think my speedy deletion of this article would be particularly controversial in a DRV, but I wanted to at least let the creator know that it exists as an option.--Isotope23 16:53, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Ah, I just noticed the admin icon... you probably didn't need that DRV explaination :)--Isotope23 16:54, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Sounds good, I'll take a look at it when you get done.--Isotope23 14:50, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Help on Farpoint Media

I made a few minor tweaks, and added a ref to the version of Farpoint Media that's in your Sandbox currently. I also put a URL in there to an episode of Cover to Cover which was an anniversary show where they spoke some about the early days of Farpoint Media. I haven't had a chance yet to relisten to the podcast and take notes. I may be able to later this week or maybe this coming weekend, but made sure to leave the URL in case someone else had time or I wasn't able to get to it. Getting Evo involved would get the best information, but then there's the concern of Original Research and possible perceived issues around WP:NPOV. - Fordan 18:43, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Sorry for butting in here. :o) I don't think there is any problem in getting information from Evo or other members of the Farpoint family, as long as we do the actual writing. --dllu 19:21, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Good to hear from you both. I hope that we can strengthen this article and the one on podiobooks to bring them back with verifiability and clear notability. Best, --Kukini hablame aqui 20:53, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi from Schools

I see you have helped the schools project with adding assessments. Could you add you comments on these schools to Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools/Assessment. This helps us keep track of who is working on assessments. Thanks Victuallers 09:54, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Re: 'Sup Brah

Hi Kukini,

no, I do not know Kuākini, but good to know that there are others from Hawai'i all the way out here on the East Coast!

My comment had a purpose: please know that claiming to know and practice "local kine Pidgin" is a pretty weighty statement, akin to being a kanaka and identifying with hawaiian sovereignty issues and such. I realize that wikipedia userpages are intended to be pretty arbitrary and non-weighty space, but use the pidgin moniker with care. A simple 'sup brah could lead you into trouble were you to ever visit the state, especially being a haole. If you just put the tag up on your userpage as a joke, I'd ask that you remove it. If you do know and practice pidgin, then by all means keep it up there.

thanks, 128.103.171.158 23:37, 23 April 2007 (UTC), or, Mahaloplenty 23:46, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Re: questions of authentication

hi kukini,

this is not an issue of where you were born/where you grew up. Haunani K. Trask was born in California of all places, and she tries to cover that up as much as possible. Personally, I think it's a bit problematic for her to do so and am in the process of publishing several articles critiquing the rhetoric of her and other hawaiian studies specialists. And no offense, but growing up on the north shore is no biggie. Almost like saying you're from kailua. Notice the flack from Catherine Toth's blog on the Honolulu Advertiser about maui fever and all the haoles who try to be local.

And this doesn't come down to race. I know plenty of moke caucasians who can speak pidgin; at the same time there are plenty of haoles (and locals) up here at Harvard from Hawaii who can't speak and understand a word of pidgin. Morphophonemic iteration in writing is also problematic; paul theroux, probably one of the more prolific writers on contemporary hawaii (but ignored by the academy, probability because he's haole) writes haole as "howlee"--but then again he's not dealing with a Hawaiian readership. I understand where he's coming from in the tradition of Mark Twain and regionalist writing, but his adherence to strict phonemic writing precludes him from serious consideration by local writers. At the same time, Trask continually defends her use of pidgin in published poetry, despite her near-complete disregard by the rest of the academy.

I only mention that since you seem focused on Arizona/Oklahoma issues. Not that I don't know any kanakas who have moved up there, but I'd assume a more passionate focus on Hawaiian issues to authenticate your claim to pidgin roots. My crew coach went to hana hauoli for all of one year as a military brat, and yet he still signs his name "Aloha, Bob" even though he hasn't been back to the state since he was eight years old. That's more of an issue of groping for identity than authenticity.

And even then, do you really speak pidgin or would you get a false crack to the face if you tried back in the aina? Just curious. Mahaloplenty 01:51, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Hello

Just passing by spreading some cheer--Dakota

You reverted my edit on Naaga. Why? Chromaticity 19:05, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Disregard; we obviously passed in the night on this one. Feel free to discuss on my talk page. Chromaticity 19:17, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Response made on talkpage. --Kukini hablame aqui 19:20, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Your problematic user list

{{subst:attack|User:Kukini/problematic user list}} Couldn't resist, but seriously - what policy says they can't remove notices from their own talk pages? --Random832 22:29, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps I should move that to another titled page...but it is to help me keep track of users who are disparaging and then delete notices of editing concerns. Do you perceive paying attention to these issues an "attack?" --Kukini hablame aqui 22:33, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
(feel free to just reply here, i'm removing the copy on my talk page to avoid duplication) - I investigated further, and you flagged Chromaticity for blanking a _welcome_ - while there's a significant minority who believe that warning notices should be retained, I'm absolutely baffled by his inclusion based on the diff you provided. And listing him as a POV-pusher (it may not have been your intention, but you did not separate out the list) while providing no evidence of that, I think, steps awfully close to the "personal attack" line --Random832 22:35, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
OK...well I stand corrected. Time to move along as I corrected the page. --Kukini hablame aqui 22:41, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Regardless, why should people have to archive your welcome notice? It's preserved in their history, and for that matter, on your original subpage. There's no recognized requirement to archive rather than removing material from a user talk page. A welcome notice doesn't really even have any "value" the way stuff like warnings are argued to - once they've seen it, what purpose does leaving it there serve? --Random832 22:57, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
The above is beginning to appear like an attack. I am done with it. Kukini hablame aqui 01:59, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

"attack"?

How was it an attack? I don't understand. I'm just saying, that the arguments for keeping warnings or even discussions around (so other users can see what the user did "wrong", etc) doesn't apply to a welcome template. --Random832 02:39, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Random832

I don't appreciate being reverted with the rollback tool for a legitimate concern. I have raised this issue on the noticeboard WP:AN#strange behavior from an admin? --Random832 02:47, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

oh, and, by the way...

User talk pages and user pages

Regarding user talk pages, it is preferred to not delete notices, but instead, to archive them. You will find how to do this here, under "When pages get too long." Your talk page is intended to serve as a place to discuss your contributions. It ends up being a sort of a history of the work you've done and the conflicts you've been in, or the praise you've received. It's alright to archive comments or warnings, but blanking your talk page is relatively less appropriate, as it is not actually yours but instead belongs to us all. Please read WP:USERPAGE and WP:TALK. When you desire to keep the "clutter" down on your user talk page, I suggest that you create archives for these messages. I would be happy to assist you in doing just that if you ask me to. You can see a sample of archives (mine) here. As for your user page, most users seem to use it as a place to describe themselves as people and/or editing entities. Many collect links to pages they are working on and/or have been working on. You user page is more "yours," in a way, than anywhere else on wikipedia, but is not intended to serve as a personal webpage either. Once again, read here to learn more about this. --Random832 02:49, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
