I am not interested in getting into an edit war on this subject, and am not interested in developing articles for the people who have been added to the list of alumni. As you must know, unsourced material may be deleted at any time. You should not restore unsourced material. The purpose of the article is to describe the school, not to list all the "renowned" people who have attended it, but who are not renowned enough to have an article. See the article's talk page. This sort of fluff damages the credibility of Wikipedia. Aymatth2 (talk) 19:00, 15 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The relevant guideline is Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools/Article guidelines#Alumni, which says "All alumni information must be referenced ... When alumni have their own articles in mainspace, it is not necessary for their notability to be referenced, as long as it is done in the biographical articles. Be sure to check the existing biography article to ensure that it demonstrates alumni status with a cited reference. ... Per Wikipedia:Bio#Lists of people, alumni to be included must meet Wikipedia notability criteria." It is the responsibility of the editor adding the information to provide the sources and demonstrate notability. I will tag the entries in this list, and remove the praise words. I assume you will provide the evidence of notability. If not, I will remove the entries for which no evidence has been provided. For all I know, they are a hoax. Aymatth2 (talk) 21:48, 15 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • I apologize for being so abrupt. A quick check shows that articles could be started for most if not all of the previously unsourced entries in the list. I may take a shot at some of them. It really is important to provide sources, but I reacted too quickly. Aymatth2 (talk) 01:16, 16 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ahmadu Bello University

[edit]

On your Gadzama, since you now understand your mistake and found the online source then you should list him at the bottom of the list. that is how the list was developed. what is the logic of cutting across and inserting him? First line, first paragraph. Grammar is what's used not "what you think" is for better reading. Ahmadu Bello University... is ungrammatical to be repeated twice(what's essence of pronouns?). In the first line, Zaria is not part of ABU name. Also be inform I am not here for quarrel also, if you are ABU student or within ABU campus get to me on ammarpad@yahoo.com or directly 07033228211 to discuss.Ammarpad 09:32, 8 July 2015 (UTC) Message

So your issue was the fact that I was "cutting across and inserting him"? Are you kidding? I made no mistake. You are the one who deleted Gadzama so it was your mistake and not mine. I'm glad you've learned your lesson to make sure you do your homework before deleting. Kunkuru (talk) 09:43, 8 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You're just disguising, I brought the issue of placement after you found and present source to back you claim of his alumnus-ship. Then you accused I didn't search to find whether he's truly alumnus, that is false. Beside him there many more personalities better than him, but were not included because of insufficiency of source to back. after you inserted both DGs I just check their articles to have look at their richness but unfortunately, they are all stubs as you 'alone' hurriedly created them in this very July, you just need to study some basic Wiki Policies. Your claim "Wiki is open platform" doesn't mean everybody with access to internet should come and start editing may be with even mobile phone. Ammarpad 09:59, 8 July 2015 (UTC) Message

(talk page stalker) I probably do not see a reason why Ammarpad dropped their phone number and e-mail address as well as disclosing their location. Having your "real life" identity discovered can be a major problem, threatening your well-being, careers, or even personal safety. It is better to protect this from happening. Read how to protect yourself. Both Ammarpad and Kunkuru should familiarize themselves with WP:Indentation, I just corrected your indents. Wikigyt@lk to M£ 14:22, 8 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. Your restore-edits at the Victor Banjo article

[edit]

Hello. With this edit you have restored unsourced material and material from questionable sources at the Victor Banjo article. As you are aware, the "burden to demonstrate verifiability lies with the editor who adds or restores material". Please kindly provide references from reliable notable sources before re-adding or restoring the unsourced material which I have removed. Also, please note that internet forum discussion boards or self-published sites (such as pwc-review.com, nairaland.com, nigeriavillagesquare.com or wordpress.com etc.) are not considered reliable sources in Wikipedia. Thank you. 77.4.130.38 (talk) 23:53, 16 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Addition of unsourced material

[edit]

Hello. You have repeatedly restored unsourced material in the Victor Banjo article. The material that you add each time you restore the article is either unsourced or is from questionable self-published sources. Please kindly fully acquaint yourself with Wikipedia's Basic Rules of Editing before editing the article again. If you continue to add or restore unsourced material, original material or material from questionable sources, you will be reported to the administrator's board. Thank you. 77.4.130.38 (talk) 12:10, 17 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Material in the article does not appear in the reliable source

[edit]

Please note that websites like nigeriavillagesquare.com, naiuraland.com, pwc-review.com and wordpress.com are not considered reliable sources in Wikipedia. Material found in such sites should never be used in Wikipedia articles. The Nation is a notable newspaper and therefore a reliable source, and thusly I have not removed it from the article. However, this material that you keep restoring does not appear in the source, and thusly that material is unsourced and I have removed it per WP:V. Please refrain from re-adding any unsourced material or material from non-reliable sources. Thank you. 77.4.130.38 (talk) 12:27, 17 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Questionable sources

[edit]

Hi there. You have added material from 2 non-notable questionable unreliable sources (Naij.com & gamji.com) in this article. Please kindly remove the added material and the unreliable sources.

I do not question or dispute the content of what you've written; I'm challenging the sources you added. They are unreliable, they have no editorial oversight, they are not notable news organisations or notable websites. In order for these 2 sites to be used as reliable sources, they must publish their editorial staff on their site. Since there is no editorial staff listed on their site, the sources are unreliable.

Please kindly familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's Content Policy of Verifiability and Wikipedia's Content Guideline for Identifying reliable sources. Thank you. 93.133.22.210 (talk) 21:44, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

With this revert you have re-added unsourced material back into the article. Also, the inclusion of the full text of a primary source (e.g. the speech of the coup plotter) is not permitted in Wikipedia. There are instructions on how to handle such cases (e.g. using Wikisource). Furthermore, the text of the speech that is found on the Vanguard site is copyrighted by Vanguard as seen in the copyright declaration. Lastly, by reverting my edits, you have not only re-added unsourced material back into the article, but also re-added material from an unreliable source. I hereby kindly ask you to please fully acquaint yourself with Wikipedia's Basic Rules of Editing, especially Wikipedia's Policy of Verifiability and Wikipedia's Content Guideline of Identifying Reliable sources. Understand this, that I'm not contesting the content of your additions. My focus is ensuring that this article is sourced with reliable sources. Should you opt to re-add unsourced material back into the article, then your disruptive editing will be brough to the attention of Wikipedia's administrators. Request reason:

I certainly welcome the application of Wikipedia's Rules and apologize for not taking to the Talk Page before undoing Captainda's updates. While Captainda has stated that he/she made good faith edits, other watchers of these pages should police Captainda's updates because they are based on inferences and were made without reading actual source material. While I welcome Captainda's contributions, updates must be based on evidence and no reputable document shows when Akitoye rebuffed Benin tributary payments to Benin. What authors Robert Smith, Kristin Mann, and Jean Herskvotis repeatedly show however is an Akitoye who was willing to do whatever was needed to get back the throne so I encourage Captainda to read source material and not make updates based on inferences or deductions. Captainda's note about Akitoye being under "British authority" from Akitoye's page actually reveals that I need to make an edit to Akitoye's page. The material Captainda (talk · contribs)sourced was provided by me no less! Jean Herskovits' verbatim words were "Three days before, "another event took place...of rather more serious import, because involving more serious consequences. The king Akitoye died. The circumstances surrounding his death are not clear, but they seem to point to poison, probably ritually administered. Such action would fit into the traditional Yoruba pattern, whereby, as we have seen, a ruler who failed to meet the expectations of his subjects was called on to put an ed to his life. It is also possible that the king had had at last realized that the aid enlisted to assure his re-entry into Lagos meant his replacement by British authority". I wrongly summarized and paraphrased "Akitoye may have realized that his bargain with the British rendered him ineffective and established British authority over Lagos". Replacement is not the same as establishment. Akitoye saw that the tide was turning against him and that the British intervention in 1851 was not what he thought it would be but formal authority over Lagos did not commence until after the Lagos Treaty of Cession in 1861. It is incorrect, not factual, and misleading to update Wikipedia with any words that suggest that Akitoye was ever under British authority. I suggest Captainda (talk · contribs) take his/her contributions to the Talk Page to have a healthy debate before making unsubstantiated and incorrect updates. I hope I have demonstrated by good faith intent - protecting properly cited information from unsubstantiated updates and those updates based on deductions Kunkuru (talk) 01:24, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

I am declining your unblock request because it does not address the reason for your block, or because it is inadequate for other reasons. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that

  • the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or
  • the block is no longer necessary because you
    1. understand what you have been blocked for,
    2. will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
    3. will make useful contributions instead.

Please read the guide to appealing blocks for more information. I see a whole lot of WP:NOTTHEM argument going on here where you're discussing the actions of others but do not see much in terms of you explaining what you personally did wrong and what you will do differently moving forward. only (talk) 02:01, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Adolphus Akinpelu Johnson requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". The pre-nominal honorific Chief

[edit]

Hello, Kunkuru,

I was just wondering why my use of pre-nominal honorifics for Nigerian aristocrats was considered "gratuitous". Whenever European aristocrats, for example, are written about on Wikipedia, their pre-nominals are typically - if not always - used. Why should ours be any different, especially when Nigerians are normally quite insistent on their usage?

O.ominirabluejack (talk) 11:03, 9 October 2019 (UTC)O.ominirabluejack.[reply]

You make a point that I don't believe that I can counter. Were it not the case that the Brits have their peerage system I'd push back super hard. All right sir, have it your way with the honorifics. I still think that they are gratuitous and my stomach turns whenever I see "Chief" before a person's name on Wikipedia. I don't think it adds any value but make una do as Naija people like to do. Thanks for the follow up and for your contributions. Kunkuru (talk) 14:44, 9 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
My brother, if it weren't for the fact that other people get to use their own, I wouldn't have a leg to stand on... This is more than just my snobbery talking here, though. Thank you for being so nice about it, and rest assured of the fact that contributing is my pleasure.

@Zerzuran: I completely disagree with the liberal use of "Statesman" for any person who led a country. This waters down the word. The label is earned and is usually unanimous. Making such speedy updates is disingenuous. There must be independent accounts supporting the use of the "Statesman" label. Rest assured that we will have a debate about this and the Wikipedia neutrality ethos will win over.Kunkuru (talk) 00:13, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You might very well think that, I couldn't possibly comment. Zerzuran — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zerzuran (talkcontribs) 00:29, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

American politics discretionary sanctions alert

[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

It seems your recent unanimous edits on the subject's article leads one to believe ulterior ego tripping motives at hand. Why the sudden grandstanding on parts of the body article, including the removal of references and the arbitrary summarisation of the subject as a "retired Nigerian politician" all on the illogical basis of alleged "badly worded edits that do not read well and are full of grammatical and punctuation errors" without discussing on the talk page in line with general consensus?

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
