Thanks for the note. One of my sources confirms the place of birth as Chestercastle, so I will amend the article next time I edit it. Do you have a citeable source regarding his father?
Incidentally, looking at your past edits, I see that our areas of interest overlap. Do you have any information about any of the red-linked players in the England v Scotland representative matches (1870–1872)? I am struggling to find the full names of several of the players -for players such as A. Nash a Google search would be pointless. Any pointers you can give would be appreciated. 1871 rugby international[edit]
Hello, I am glad to know that you have been looking at this area as well. There are so many players from the early years about which hardly anything is known. After looking at the 1871 international I have majored on finding out more about the many England players for whom only initials are given in espn scrum for example (I am quite pleased with the results so far but some still elude). I then intended to look at Scotland in more detail and so on. In the case of J.S. Thomson I simply documented what I had found out, thinking this would be a useful point for others to launch from. My enquiries with Glasgow Academy did not yield anything. In the case of William Forsyth, looking at the article I must admit that I may have had too much enthusiasm for one line of research (not that it would count as original research of course). I know he is the same Forsyth that played rugby for the university. However, the fact I could find one W Forsyth in the university records for the time does not mean it is definitely him. Likewise Robert Munro. For Munro I could only find one at St Andrews, but now you say there were two I am concerned that my article would need revisiting. I would very much like to find out what you have for the players (you mentioned W Forsyth, JLH McFarlane and Robert Munro).Kwib (talk) 21:24, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
