Marlowe's address[edit]

615 Cahuenga Building, Hollywood

I don't think that really makes sense. There's a Cahuenga street or Blvd in Hollywood, I forget which. Is 615 the number on the street? Or is it the office number within the building itself, being, presumably on the sixth floor? Is the building called "the Cahuenga Building"? In which case, what street is it on?

What I'm getting at, is that I think the correct address ought to be something like "615 Cahuenga Blvd., The Cahuenga Building, Suite 54, Hollywood, Calif."

Dear Mr. Peirce,

  Thank you.  What I mean is that Marlowe himself, in The High Window (1942, R. Chandler) says that is his office address.  He meant office or room 615 (sixth floor) in the fictional Cahuenga Building.  He said, "That's on Hollywood Blvd. near Ivar."  If one actually travels to LA, one finds a six story office building at the corner of Hollywood Blvd. and Cahuenga Blvd.  Scholars think this served as the model for the fictional Cahuenga Building in Chandler's imagination.

I've merged the two Philip Marlowe gun discussions. Talk:Philip Marlowe#Guns of Philip_Marlowe I did not add the disputed sentence or the citation but did fix the latter so that it takes you directly to the New Yorker article. The editor does seem to have added more detail than appears in the cited article. If you have fair-sized gun knowledge, then by all means edit the disputed sentence.
