FACC newsletter
I'm sorry I missed replying to your comment regarding the FACC. I was very busy at the time in real life and on Wikipedia, and basically I wasn't quite ready to commit to creating and writing the newsletter, so I wasn't quite sure what to say. Anyway, it's a nice newsletter and I'd be happy to help in the future. Cheers! - Diligent Terrier (and friends) 20:53, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for participating in my RfA, LAAFan! | |
My RfA passed by a count of 64/3/3, so I am now an administrator! I thank you for your input and thoughts. I value them greatly, but I hope I can do a decent enough job in spite of your concerns. However, since I plan to conduct my adminship in service of the community, I believe the community has a right to revoke that privilege at any time. Thus, if you see me do anything terribly wrong, I will be open for recall under reasonable circumstances. If you have any advice, complaints, or concerns for me, please let me know. Thanks again. I'm honestly overwhelmed at the level of support that I've received from the community, and will do my best to maintain the trust placed in me. I 'm also thankful to those who opposed or expressed a neutral position, for providing clear rationales and superb feedback for me to build on. I've set up a space for you to provide any further feedback or thoughts, should you feel inclined to. However you voted, thanks for taking the time out to contribute to the process, it's much appreciated. Kind regards, Gazimoff 21:39, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

The article prose does not mention that the Pirates won the World Series in 1925 as the hook states. The reference says they won it but the hook should really be in the prose of the article, ideally in the same sentence as the citation. --Captain-tucker (talk) 04:09, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

MaximillianRiese Warning
Hello! I noticed your warning on MaximillianRiese's talk page, but it didn't specify which article he added copyrighted content to. I had a browse through his recent contribs, and couldn't find anything obvious. Having sorted out the copy-and-paste move inside wiki which set off CSB, there doesn't seem to be any copyvios of recent. Please put me straight if I'm wrong, but I'd hate to see a well-meaning (regular) editor put off by a cold template message! Cheers - Toon05 11:49, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
- I understand that, however the CSB copyright message was referring to an incorrectly performed move, not the addition of copyrighted content to an article - something which is not addressed at all within that warning message. I just wanted to check that it was the Scatter Point article, not a different incident - if it was a follow-up to the CSB tag, I think you should consider rescinding the warning, as it is not at all appropriate in this instance, cheers - Toon05 16:33, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
- No problem, thanks for being reasonable! :) - Toon05 22:29, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Warning?
Sorry, but would you care to elaborate on this one for me? Cheers. Martocticvs (talk) 22:55, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
- No worries - if it was based on the CohenSearchBot tags, I think its having trouble with articles containing infoboxes... can't see what else would be causing it anyway. Martocticvs (talk) 16:29, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
my RfA
I would like to explain in more detail my actions that led to a block for 3RR more than a year ago. "I can't get past the fact that the user has been blocked before, as that showed a misunderstanding of Wikipedia policy."
My block was due to a misunderstanding of the WP:3RR policy and its applicable criteria. The person who blocked me, a brand new admin who had not yet blocked anyone, did not note that a warning was never given to me per the instructions and blocked me. There is an exception made in 3RR for reversion of persistent vandalism and this was not noted or applied. Furthermore, the fact tags were added with intended malice: to cast doubt upon the accuracy of the article, not to improve it. Even when unbiased, reliable sources with impeccable credentials were noted in the article and shown to the individual in question, the individual continued to add the tags out of spite/malice. In an action of retaliation, the same user attempted to delete an uploaded image as an act of retribution. Once blocked, the user resorted to sockpuppetry in an attempt to bypass a block. In short, this user had no intention of improving the encyclopedia, but to make the article look bad and then lash out at myself when his efforts failed.
I'm not saying I didn't go past the 3RR line with respect to reversions, but the reasoning was rampant vandalism, an exception in 3RR. Had someone warned me, I would have ceased immediately and sought assistance at a WP:ANI "forum". Furthermore, I have learned my lesson from this and have not repeated it since.
Hopefully this addresses your concerns. I would be happy to do anything else to explain my actions. Hopefully, this will transcend into a support !vote or at least a conversion into neutrality. As always, your feedback at this forum is welcome and appreciated. — BQZip01 — talk 03:15, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

You marked it speedy delete per CSD A3; yet it states However, a very short article may be a valid stub if it has context, in which case it is not eligible for deletion under this criterion. Similarly, this criterion doesn't cover a page with an infobox with non-trivial information.
Please learn to follow Wikipedia's own rules. Sewnmouthsecret (talk) 18:30, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
Hi. I removed the speedy from this article as to me just the title of the article provided enough context. I accept that many would disagree with this assessment but I thought that given the obvious encylopedic nature of such an article it deserved longer for the editor to add to it before being speedied. (As a personal view I think no articles should be deleted under A1,A3 or A7 until they have existed for at least an hour as many new editors make many small additions to an article instead of doing it in one go and we should wait and see whether this happens). I do, however, accept that you were well within your rights to add a speedy and think the comment above by sewnmouthsecret is, at the very least, unhelpful and I'm going to add a comment to sewnmouthsecret's talk about being civil. As it currently stands I think the article's in a terrible state and so I hope to tidy it up over the weekend, if I get time, as I now feel partly responsible for it. I hope that my reason for removing the speedy makes sense, even if you do diasagree with it. Dpmuk (talk) 19:01, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Rash speedy deletions
This edit was rash. Generally a national academy of science is a body in which membership is by invitation only and includes only the most elite scientists, often charged with advising the government on scientific matters. Moreover, I think the fact that the article was created by one of Wikipedia's most respected contributors should have given you pause.
In this edit, the "algebraic geometry" and "homological algebra" categories were already there before you added the speedy deletion tag. Therefore you could have inquired, e.g. at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mathematics or asked the creator of the article to add suitable initial context-setting. Clearly the article needed a "context" tag, and cooler heads ultimately first added that and then fixed the article's problems.
Don't add a "speedy deletion" tag merely because you don't understand the article. Add it if you KNOW the article is nonsense, not just if it's about a subject you're not familiar with. Michael Hardy (talk) 05:11, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
- I was noticing the same thing where you tag pages as {{db-bio}}, in a lot of cases you do so where that tag isn't applicable or the content probably is notable, or as above. While the criteria is "asserts notabiliy" just because a stub doesn't assert notability doesn't mean you shouldn't check to see if there is any first. There are a lot of your speedy deletion taggings that are reversed. Prodego talk 16:02, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
- You might want to consider WP:Proposed deletion. It is for when you think an 'article' (no other pages) should be deleted, but it doesn't meet any WP:CSD. If you aren't sure, you probably should AfD it. Prodego talk 16:17, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

— JGHowes talk - 19 August 2008
There is only one section left (including its subsections) that needs to be completed before the pages are ready for Around the World:
- Branches of the government of x
- Executive branch of the government of x
- Legislative branch of the government of x
- Judicial branch of the government of x
There are a few more things that need to be completed before the lists can be moved into the main namespace:
- Fill in the blanks, and blank [[]]'s
- Population:
- Size:
- "(specific elections)" needs to be replaced by links to specific elections (by year, usually)
- International organization membership
- Commander-in-chief: [[]]
- Economic rank:
- Currency of x:
- Blue-linking (creating redirects for) standardized items for which the articles' names are not standardized:
- Fix other temporary links
- World Heritage sites in x (they all point to the same place, and need to be fixed)
- "Capital of x" needs to be replaced with the actual capital name
- Material in the lead paragraph(s) that is covered in the body of the list needs to be removed, or moved from the lead to the relevant items in the list.
- Fill in the External Links section
Moving these lists into the main namespace could have a huge impact on their development, because then each list will fall under the scope of the WikiProjects of the respective countries. That's a lot of WikiProjects that may become involved with refining and maintaining these lists.
The move will be accompanied with the placing of new sections on each of the WikiProject pages, their talk pages, placing banners on the talk pages of each list, and including links to these lists in hatnotes on the relevant articles and portals, and placing section links in the see also sections of relevant articles (Geography of x, Military of x, etc.). Lots of AWB work.

Proposed deletion of Magnum, P.I. production details and cultural references
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Magnum, P.I. production details and cultural references, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.
