Welcome[edit]

Hey there, LambaJan. Welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you enjoy being a Wikipedian and decide to stay! Here are a few good links for newcomers (or "oldcomers" for reference):

By the way, you should sign and date your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~. Three tildes (~~~) produces just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!

Great, just what we need around this place... more people with Lamb in their name. :) Cheers. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 16:51, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalization[edit]

I noticed you mentioned wanting to change 'he => He'. When I first got here I did the same thing, and people kept lower-casing it. Then I read a blurb from Shoghi Effendi that said that capitalizing pronouns of the central figures should always be followed by Baha'is, but he acknowledged that to non-Baha'is it might look funny, and said for introductory material it's permissible not to follow that (I can't remember the reference). I also edit Wiki in Spanish, and I didn't realize that in Spanish NONE of the religion names are capitalized (catholicism, christianity, islam...), and after going through the entire page capitalizing, I was reverted over and over. I also read where Shoghi Effendi said not to break the grammatical rules of a language when it comes to capitalizing.

Anyway, the point is, now I don't care, and I thought that might be interesting to you. Cuñado - Talk 13:21, 4 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bahá'í Guardian article[edit]

An excellent idea to separate these articles. Right on-point. I anticipate that this will likely generate controversy with OBF if it deals with the succession. May I suggest that you deal with that in the article by only addressing the office, not addressing succession in detail (perhaps merely pointing to the Will and Testament of `Abdu'l-Bahá), and directing further inquiry to Bahá'í divisions? Even with that you may still have to bird-dog the article.

Thank you for taking this on. MARussellPESE 17:56, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comment on this article. I'm going to afd it, so you might want to weigh in there. I notice that the original editor self-identifies as atheist. I'm atheist also, and the article sounds just like our T.A.S. (Typical Atheist Snark). Joyous | Talk 17:04, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I can't imagine a place on atheist to put it, unless I add a subheading called "Typical atheist snark." Joyous | Talk 00:38, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy delete of David Keenan[edit]

You added a Speedy to David Keenan. He is a notable music journalist (a Google test will prove this). I can't remove the tag because I wrote the article. Can you please reconsider? Cnwb 07:22, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the 'deal', it feels like you're holding the article to ransom. I think it's a perfectly valid stub as it stands (ie. it established that the person is worthy of inclusion), and I don't think I need to provide more information to save it from your Speedy. It should be sent to AfD if anything, but not Speedied. Cnwb 07:57, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, sorry. I think I misinterpreted the tone of your message. Ahh, the foibles of internet communication, eh? I've added a little more to the article. I can assure you that he is a well-known journalist in certain circles. As the Stylus interview says "he’s made a huge quantifiable impact on underground and experimental music culture". Cnwb 08:11, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You nominated this article for deletion, citing non-assertion of notability. While notability may be questionable, I consider statements like "underground cult legend" and "founder, main event wrestler and creative force behind Extremely Strange Wrestling" (which doesn't have an article itself, but Google seems to identify its notability on a bare level) to assert notability, while "a high school student in Sydney, Australia" would not assert notability. If you believe this article deserves an AFD feel free to make a nomination, but it does not fall under the criterion for speedy deletion suggested, IMO. jnothman talk 08:20, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The article may be a hoax, it may be nonsense, it may be non-notable, but it DID assert notability. So while I may agree with you on "J. R. Benson's deservingness for articleship", or have not researched it enough to know, a Wikipedia policy (WP:DVAIN) on the subject suggests "Only those articles where there is no remotely plausible assertion of notability should be considered for Wikipedia:Speedy deletion." Hence you should ensure this criterion in the future when using A7. I will possibly take this up with the admin that speedy-2deleted the article. jnothman talk 02:32, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Category: Forms of English[edit]

Hi LambaJan! I happened to notice that you added "Category:Forms of English" in double brackets on your user page under the headline "Other Articles" on 27 December. Just above it you also had "Forms of English" in double brackets, which is perfectly okay: it takes you to the category list. But when you keep the string "Category:" it doesn't show up where you put it, but in the link line at the bottom of the page: you had made yourself part of the category!
I removed it, as I don't think that was your intention. "LambaJan speak", a new form of Valspeak perhaps...? Thomas Blomberg 00:17, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Your support is very welcome, my friend. So thank you, it means a lot. I've been getting into some quite heated discussions lately, and I've been thinking there's something wrong with me, since I'm the common element. I said to somebody yesterday that my aim here is to improve the quality of what we put out, I'm not here to make friends. But I added the rider that I'm not here to make enemies either. Seems I've lost it a little here and there, and I think in the eyes of certain people I'm just an irredeemably bad person, to be avoided at all costs. Others see me as a person who is obsessed with making negative comments. I hate that people have such opinions of me, I really do. But there's nothing I can do about it - and there has to be an element of truth in those views - so I just have to accept that's the way it is, learn my lessons, and move on. I have to learn to become less attached to the notion that I will gain respect from others for my contributions. Maybe I will gain respect, but that's not the point. Self-respect is what it's about. If I haven't got that, I've got nothing. Oscar Wilde, my great spiritual mentor, talks about living one's life by being true to one's true nature.

Thanks for the opportunity to be a sound box for my blatherings. God bless. JackofOz 12:30, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I read your message in my discussion page... well, things are going better at home for me now...I'm 'ok' with my parents now, but that will never take away all the religious related thinking they put me through, haha, but it's ok... I'll overcome it, it's not like they are medieval priests either, they are normal people that live a 'western' (let's say) lifestyle...they are not like...monks or weirdos...not at all, it's just that they use religion fear and guilt to back up some of their demands, but...it's ok, they finally understand me (kind of) and that's the point...we just try not to talk about religion anymore...to tell u the truth, they where only sunday catholics... our 'religion' was just an hour a week, they where never obsessed about religion, but they wanted me to go to church with them ( I guess for social reasons) eventhough I said it didn't go with my ideas about the world,so...they finally 'gave up'. I'm glad. I will erase that post from my discussion page now, because I feel it's kinda stupid, and I did it when I was really mad so... haha. thanks a lot :D. ps. how old are you?--Cosmic girl 16:48, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reference desk[edit]

Lest you should infer animus or malign sardonicism from the "opposite of calm" thread, I should say that I intended only to make a joke and not to suggest any infirmity in your part in essaying to create a relevant noun form of tempestuous; even as I assumed the query to be apropos of the adjective "calm", you are surely correct that the user may have sought antonyms for the noun, where perhaps "tempest" might work (although surely not in the "state of" sense with which calm is most commonly used). In any case, I was poking fun at your helpful locution, and, to the extent that such poking was untoward, gauche, or offensive, I certainly apologize. Joe 18:50, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Clicking on pics[edit]

Yeah, about the P_**.png images, it's probably not the best idea to use an image as a redirect. If you want to click the image, try {{click}} (also check out {{RD header}}, as I've switched the redirs there, you can copy the code and use it here). Images deserve their own page that isn't a redirect. If you'd like, I'll edit your page to update it, but they probably shouldn't be used as redirects. Thanks! -Mysekurity [m!] 02:27, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi there!

If you're going to put a NPOV tag on a page -- as you did with the TotallyDisputed template on Jamahiriya -- could you please put the reasons that you feel the tag belongs there on the article's talk page (in this case Talk:Jamahiriya) so it can be discussed? Youtube[edit]

Hey, thank you for your constructive starter on the Baha'i discussion page. Blessed are the peace makers.

I added this to Zazaban discussion page, he could take it two ways, delete or rvt.
I was thinking that it was not my arguments that you do not support but that you did not like me or my comments. Youtube and the Baha'i wikipedia page has a place. But I would not put this link onto the page. It is best in your discussion page. A contrast to the Chile House of Worship.ps pps ppps

As you can see the quality and content on youtube is not the same a wikipedia's main page, but get into the discussion pages and I find wikipedia and youtube have very similar range of content. I hear you would like some more work put into some some Baha'i pages. I would be interested to see you make some youtube upload submissions that could be referenced back into wikipedia pages. I just wanted to encourage you with you unity push. I do appreciate your commments very much. I will work away in discussion little by little day by day so give something more to the consultation.RoddyYoung 04:02, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Again your comments, LambaJan, on the page are brave and the spirit of a recue worker. I am willing to admit that I am not blameless and I want to express my remorse and say that I have learned to keep my comments in my own talk page and not sign them on the main talk page which are readable in the history. I am sorry for that.I do not know how to move on from here. I refuse to write directly into the achieve. But I also realise that the discussion page off limits. I made the point to Jeff3000 that I was happy with just a link to the House of Worship in the Baha'i page and had no intention to make so much out of deletes (although I have had a few pages that I have started wiped out and I never knew who did that as they just disappair. Deleting hurts my heart when it happens to me. I can say that I have never deleted another persons work. I have discussed points with them in their talk pages but I feel that deletes are a very sensitive matter. Wikipedia suvives however with freedom to delete and I come back so I like staus quo. I have two wikipedia edits that I feel happy with . The first in my academic subject of genetics. i was able to link a scientific america paper with the date of DNA on the DNA wikipedia page and Have the first reference number. The second is that in the Israel wikipedai main page I have the first reference to the Baha'i faith on the page. when I went to the Israel page no mention of Bahai was on the page inspite of over 100 years of owning land and having a world centre. So I thank you but also understand that I have made mistakes with my work too. I have notices that work on the main page has stopped over the past month and see how the delete debate has cause a show down in work until it is resolved.

I reverted your edit to {{User:UBX/Sith2}} (diff). In it, you cited CSD T2, which doesn't exist; see Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#Templates.

I was going off of this: Wikipedia:T1 and T2 debates. Through it a standard was implimented where all of the religious identity userboxes as well as most ideological ones came to use the words "interested in" rather than express belief in or membership of.
I was simply going through and standardizing all of the ones I saw. If this standard is obsolete then perhaps they should be changed back. -LambaJan 23:33, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Pip Pip Tally Ho[edit]

The coo coo cajoob is indeed from 'I am the walrus' and many other famous imitations of crazy persons. As to my use of pip pip tally ho it is a poor imitation of upper-crust British forms of speech that myself and some of my friends used, and it kind of got stuck in my speech patterns. I mostly used it because it's kind of funny sounding and I wanted to be a little funny to make it more excusable that I was adding in another one so quickly.

I was noticing in your talk that you had discussed with someone the creation of a separate Guardianship page from the Shoghi Effendi biographical page. I am currently working on a sandbox page of that myself and I was wondering if you would care to contribute? If so you're welcome to edit that page as much as you'd like, as soon as the page starts looking acceptable I'm hoping to make the break between the subjects. May you go in God's care. I noticed you moved the reply to an archive, which confuses readers as it breaks up the chronology. Can you move back the thread to the desk so other's can see your reply and so the chronology of the archive remains in tact?68.148.164.166 (talk) 09:16, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I did not move it to the archive. I moved it to the posted discussion which was still open at the time. If you wanted to reply to it you had a couple of days before it was archived. If you wish to reply to it now you can move it here or to one of the currently open related discussions at the reference desk or you can start a new section on the reference desk and post it there as a continuation. -LambaJan (talk) 19:00, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This proves that you moved it to the archive.68.148.164.166 (talk) 06:21, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I see. That must have been an accident caused by following various links to get around between the sections. There were other times I was posting something on the ref desk and for some reason it bumped me to the archive when I tried to save my edit. I think it has to do with saving while the computer is going through the archiving process, or something. I don't really know. Nevertheless, that's a transcluded archive, which means the contents of it appear on the ref desk section if it's still open. I know it did this because I check the sections I write on to see if anyone responds and I definitely saw that edit on the ref desk, not the archive (or I should maybe say not just the archive, but I didn't check the archive) before the section was removed. That's how I remember it, anyway. I can assure you that if I made a mistake it was an honest mistake. -LambaJan (talk) 19:21, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Of, course, I meant no harm either. I just wanted to show you how it happened, or how it looked to me. Thank you for your understanding and sorry for any grievances I caused.68.148.164.166 (talk) 23:14, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
