Thanks for uploading File:Traditional Burmese monks on alms round.jpg. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Quotes from "Ireland's new religious movements"

[edit]

Hi, looks like a useful book and you've added a number of references to articles. Just thought I'd point out a couple of friendly policies and practices. There's a couple of things though that you should be aware of. I assume that you are the same "Laurence Cox" listed as an editor - that might open you up to accusations of a conflict of interest. If someone disagreed with one of the points. Take a look at the policy and understand it. It's also requested that when quoting books, your use a specific format, and a specific template, and to also include the ISBN. For example, this is the template in use for a book on whiskey Whisky by James Ross. That's it. Looks like a very interesting book! --HighKing (talk) 13:36, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Highking, Many thanks for that. I'll answer the easier point first: I understand though that multiple forms of 1 are allowed on WP, but that it should be consistent within a single article. Was there a specific article where I didn't do this? Happy to put in the ISBN of course, but just wanted to check we were talking about the same thing.

On COI, this is in part why I'm using my own name, by way of declaring my interest. I understand though that "If an editor has published the results of his or her research in a reliable publication, the editor may cite that source while writing in the third person and complying with our neutrality and conflict of interest policies" 2. I've tried to avoid controversial claims as far as possible.

My situation here is slightly odd in that there is very little published research on NRMs in Ireland, and this book literally represents not just the first academic overview of the subject but the proceedings of the first academic conference on the topic. These were successful in gathering pretty much everyone doing academic research in the field, at least within Ireland (and a high international representation), so that there are at present very few people with this knowledge who are not in some way represented within the publication or at least the broader conference. (In relation to my own piece within this, there is to the very best of my knowledge one other academic researcher and one non-academic researcher on Irish Buddhism, both of whom I work closely with, so the situation is even tighter.) Obviously the hope of the book and of mentioning it on Wikipedia is to spur others to more empirical research.

Thanks a lot, --Laurence Cox (talk) 10:45, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Laurence. Yup, multiple forms are fine, and I was pointing out the "cite book" template as this is a simple way to .. well ... cite books. I'd certainly recommend putting in the ISBN - it'll make the publication much easier to find for international readers who may wish to order it from their library, etc. The rest, I was really only giving you a heads-up on some possible potential future issues, but you appear to be well prepared, so feel free to ignore. As I said before, looks like a great publications, good luck. --HighKing (talk) 20:01, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Doing the ISBNs now.--Laurence Cox (talk) 15:09, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for U Dhammaloka

[edit]

Orlady (talk) 00:02, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for expansion. It would really help if we could Interface listed in the indices mentioned in points 2 and 3 of Wikipedia:Notability (academic journals). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 00:44, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting article in the Signpost

[edit]

Since you don't seem to be subscribed to the talk page Signpost delivery, you may be missing on this interesting tidbit: WMF strikes down enwiki consensus, academic journal partnerships, and eyebrows raised over minors editing porn-related content (the story Academic journals consider partnering with Wikipedia'). You may find it of interest. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 01:12, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware, Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

 1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made; that is to say, editors are not automatically "entitled" to three reverts.
 2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. IRWolfie- (talk) 22:46, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Specifically, if you want to include the link, discuss it on the talk page as required per WP:BRD. You also have a conflict of interest with regard to the link, which also requires you to take it to the talk page. IRWolfie- (talk) 22:50, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
