May 2010[edit]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. WackyWace talk 08:54, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was rebuked 5/30/2010 by someone going by the name WackyWace for not having added the tildes at the end of my question. It was a question about a comment left on a page stating the photos looked like a gallery which, it appears, is not what Wikipedia wishes. Just a few minutes ago, I was reading an piece on Hibiscus and it, too, had many photos which might be considered a gallery. I have no problems with it looking that way but it seems discriminatory to alert one and not the other. My original question was to ask why this is an infraction. I feel sure someone will call me on my not following the rules in my typing and actions but I am new and haven't learned the ways, yet. It almost seems as if the 2 correction given me were hostile.(Leeflea (talk) 11:13, 3 June 2010 (UTC))[reply]

Hey Leeflea, the corrections given to you aren't meant to be hostile. They are automated templates that are trying to give you advice. It is important on Wikipedia for people to sign their posts, otherwise nobody would know who is making which statements. That would make discussions impossible to follow. It is general procedure to leave messages for people when they don't use the tildes to sign their post so they know how to use them in the future.
