Ivan Lee is the FIRST man of African American descent to win a world title in Fencing. He is not the second. He won his world title in 2001. No African American man won a world fencing title before 2001. He is the second African American man to medal at a world championships. The first was Terrence Lasker, who won bronze at the 1994 Cadet World Championships. Lee won bronze at the 1998 Cadet World Championships and then won gold at the 2001 Junior World Championships.
