Wikilinking

[edit]

We do believe in adding wikilinks where appropriate, but it can be overdone. One example is that you can't "nest" wikilinks. The article on Maimonides had a link to an image. By this edit you changed the image name by adding wikilinks; that broke the main link, so that the version after your edit didn't display the image.

A more important point is that we don't wikilink the same term over and over. For example, in the same section with the image link, you seem to have linked every occurrence of the word "Jewish". That's not necessary to help the reader find the article on Judaism, and most people consider it distracting. According to Wikipedia:Manual of Style (links)#Overlinking and underlinking: what's the best ratio?:

An article may be considered overlinked if any of the following is true:

. . . .
  • A link for any single term is excessively repeated in the same article, as in the example of overlinking which follows: "Excessive" is more than once for the same term, in a line or a paragraph, because in this case one or more duplicate links will almost certainly appear needlessly on the viewer's screen. Remember, the purpose of links is to direct the reader to a new spot at the point(s) where the reader is most likely to take a temporary detour due to needing more information . . . .

I'll leave it to you and the other people who edit that article to prune these links. (Sorry to be lazy, but I dropped by the article only to check one point!) JamesMLane t c 08:53, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

sorry... I'm slowly learning I guess.... I'll try to do better in the future. Leppi 06:17, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see you properly indenting your response to my comment, and signing with four tildes. There are some people who've been here longer than you and haven't even picked up that much yet.  :) No one can learn it all at once, but you're editing in good faith, making useful contributions, and becoming more familiar with the procedures as you go along. That's all anyone can ask. JamesMLane t c 07:13, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not a collection of trivia, or a directory. Look at the appropriate policy pages. Samfreed 11:49, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added it because it you would look at other neighborhoods of Jerusalem they also have the bus routes listed there. I did not post it for trivia purposes. I just expanded on what had been done before on many other pages. For example: Har Nof. Leppi 13:56, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So now I fixed that all over the city. Wikipedia has a policy on not-being-a-directory, on not-being-a-random-collection-of-facts, and on not-being-a-travel-guide. Samfreed 17:14, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Then in your opinion should this article be deleted? List of Egged bus lines It also falls into the directory category. Leppi 12:04, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In My opinion, yes. This is an Encyclopedia. However, do I have the time and energy to handle all violations of all policies - of course not. I follow this article because I live in Beit Hakerem, and since I saw this problem, I fiuxed it in all of the city. Enough for me for today. Samfreed 06:35, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just wondering if it truly should have been "fixed." It does help out a lot for becoming familiar with the city, because that is one of the main modes of transportation. Leppi 13:28, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This policy is not my invention, see WP:NOT#TRAVEL, WP:NOT#DIR, and generally WP:LOP Samfreed 14:21, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article appears to be (a) completely sourced from the company's own page so that it looks a bit like an advert and (b) in some places directly copied and pasted from their website. I suggest you tidy it up before it gets deleted. Number 57 16:42, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I looked at what was written on the articles website and reworded it in my own words. Are there any specific sections you think need to be reworded better? (trying to do my best....) Leppi 16:43, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, it is great that you are adding to Wikipedia (I'm quite surprised there wasn't an article before), but this section
Clalit is the only health organization in Israel that has it's own extensive network of hospitals throughout the country. Clalit maintains a total of 14 general and special care hospitals, including two psychiatric hospitals, a full care rehabilitation hospital, and two long-term care hospitals with rehabilitation and nursing facilities for the chronically ill and the aged. Members may be hospitalized either at one of Clalit’s eight general hospitals or at a government or public hospital for whose services Clalit pays in full. All Clalit hospitals are university affiliate
is directly copied and pasted, and thus a WP:COPYVIO. The rest sounds like a promotional ad for the company, e.g. "Clalit clinics became available in almost every neighborhood of the country", "It is also the only health fund with a countrywide network of state-of-the-art pharmacies, dental clinics, laboratories, diagnostic imaging and specialist centers" etc etc. Try getting some reports from non-Clalit sources, e.g. Jerusalem Post or Haaretz on the company, which I doubt will be so praiseworthy. Number 57 16:49, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was also surprised when I saw that there was no article about it. The only kupa that had an article was Maccabi. I'll work on that paragraph right now.... Leppi 16:52, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was tagged before the references were placed. You may remove tags after you improve the article. Cheers!--Stormbay 17:32, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There was a reference already. I added more though after you tagged the article. Leppi 17:38, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You are correct. I apologize. Just fix it the next time. Happy editing!--Stormbay 18:19, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sherut Leumi

[edit]

I've fixed it - I copied it across from the Hebrew wiki but didn't bother to check it worked; they'd moved the page on the department website (I've also fixed it on he.wiki). Number 57 11:56, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Leppi 12:34, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You don't need to put a | in external links - just a space - it just messes them up (I fixed the ones in Mahane Yehuda Market). Number 57 15:25, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wanted to stop by and say hello. Please feel free to address to me any administrative requests you may have. -- Y not? 08:40, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You mean about my saying that I'm slowly learning? I don't understand what you mean by administrative requests?Leppi 08:47, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

okay.... Thanks Leppi 15:54, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing

[edit]

Hi Leppi. Just to let you know, when you make references using <ref>... </ref>, remember to put a references section at the end, i.e. ==References==
<references />
Otherwise, they will not show up. Number 57 08:33, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reminder! will do!Leppi 10:06, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi and welcome

[edit]

Hi there Leppi: Welcome to Wikipedia. I have noticed your contributions to Wikipedia which are generally on helpful topics. I saw your work with Neve Yerushalayim and I have added wording in the introduction to make it read more like an article and less like an "advertisement" or PR "brochure". You need to be aware that if articles about institutions are presented just as "lists" of what they do then they run the danger of being nominated for deletion because of violations of WP:NOT#DIRECTORY. See if you can go over the article and add information that could describe what the institution/s do in a broader, WP:NPOV, and even more critical way. Remember, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia it is not just a place to advertise or dump random information, see WP:NOT#ADVOCATE and WP:NOT#WEBSPACE. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Best wishes, IZAK 08:00, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Midreshet Moriah

If you have any information on Midreshet Moriah can you please add it. We are lacking information on it —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.160.110.148 (talk) 02:27, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merkaz HaRav, Givat Shaul

[edit]

Please explain this edit. I have reverted it. Merkaz HaRav is in Givat Shaul. Please do not remove correct information from Wikipedia. --169.132.18.249 11:41, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merkaz harav is in kiryat moshe. It is a block and a half away from givat shaul, but not actually in Givat Shaul and that is the reason why I removed it. Leppi 12:42, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jerusalem College of Technology

[edit]

I saw you were working on the JCT page. In the first paragraph it sais that JCT is located in Givat Mordechai, I don't think that's correct because JCT includes other campuses (like Tal, and Lustig). I'm not sure how to rewrite it, so I thought you might be able to... Thanx Tb3 (talk) 20:54, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How about something along the lines that it's main campus is located in givat mordechai?Leppi (talk) 07:55, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Neve Article

[edit]

Leppi, Love the Neve article. It's one of the few articles on religious institutions in J-lem that is not one big ad. Well done. Joe407 (talk) 07:24, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RFC

[edit]

If you have a moment, I'd appreciate your thoughts on Talk:Contemporary_Jewish_religious_music#Important_figures. The question is how to define an important musical influence. Thanks, Joe407 (talk) 17:00, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
