Removal of notability tags

[edit]

Hi, I saw that you removed the notability tags from Scott Thompson (musician), please do not remove the tags until you have resolved the problem, which is establishing the notability of the subject from reliable independent sources. The record label that has signed him does not qualify. You should take the time to read the two links above as they are the basis for any article on Wikipedia. Thanks --kelapstick (talk) 19:44, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The one source that you added was not a reliable source. And it is not an establishment of notability.--kelapstick (talk) 22:36, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

[edit]

NOTABILITY can only be established by RELIABLE SOURCES that are independent of the subject. Myspace pages are not reliable sources, regardless of if Wikipedia allows them on pages or not, and his and his record company's are not independent. Do not remove the notability tags unless you have established notability with reliable independent sources.--kelapstick (talk) 22:54, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

You have not established notability, you have only shown that he played guitar at a music festival. You have to do that with reliable sources like a newspaper, not a festival website, not a myspace page. As it is now, he does not appear notable outside of the band Lillix, he does not appear to be, the notability guidelines for musicians←Read this - suggests that the page should redirect to Lillix.--kelapstick (talk) 03:35, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Issues

[edit]

Wikipedia automatically deletes anything website that are myspace blogs as spam. It will revert the entire edit, that is why it removed your link. Asside from that you still need to establish notability for him with reliable sources. If he hasn't met the general notability guidelines he needs to pass WP:MUSIC. Nobody is disputing that he played in the festival, but playing in a music festival does not mean that you are notable. Note that at the bottom of the criteria it states:

Note that members of notable bands are redirected to the band's article, not given individual articles, unless they have demonstrated individual notability for activity independent of the band, such as solo releases. Members of two notable bands are generally notable enough for their own article.

That is what I am going to do as there is nothing that he has done that is notable outside of that.--kelapstick (talk) 03:54, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There are a lot of threads (sections) on this page. ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:12, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I also linked to information that this individual co-wrote material on a internationally re-leased album - being a songwriter on a commercially released recording certainly would warrant a page, also the fact that the individual listed a new project that -

The deletion /redirection of that page likely has something to do with user kelapstick's personal vendetta- note that other former members Louise Burns also have a seperate site from the lillix myspace- this is not a very nice way to welcome a new contributer- Open source my ass.

Being a songwritter with a commercial release does not warrant a page, what warrants a page is clearly shown at WP:N, and WP:MUSIC. It is not a personal vendetta, it is Wikipedia guidelines and policy. Also note the policy WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS states that:
"because X has an article Y should have an article"
is not a valid argument for keeping an article. Maybe the other members (such as Louise Burns) should redirect to Lillix.
I asked you time and time again to display why Scott Thompson is notable in terms of the Wikipedia guidelines and you did not, you just would add links (to non-reliable sources) and remove the tags. Also you may not know this, but having a notability tag on an article does not mean that it will be deleted, it means there is a question about their notability, and you removed the tag without addressing the question. Also I told you to read the general notability guidelines, the guidelines for musicians and the reliable source guidelines. You either didn't read them or choose to ignore them. I encourage everyone (including you) to contribute to Wikipedia constructively, provided you adhere to the guidelines.
Also when you create an article there is a banner above the edit box that says
Which you clearly didn't read or chose to ignore. So don't give me this personal vendetta and not nice way to welcome a new contributor lecture, I and civilly told you that you were not providing reliable sources and not to remove the tags until you did (which you chose to ignore), I even gave you time to add reliable sources which could be used to establish his notability (which I did actually search for, and upon not finding any made my decision to redirect). --kelapstick (talk) 17:10, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. The recent edit you made to the page Scott Thompson (musician) has been reverted, as it appears to be unconstructive. Use the sandbox for testing; if you believe the edit was constructive, please ensure that you provide an informative edit summary. You may also wish to read the introduction to editing. Thank you. If you wish to continue contributing to Wikipedia I suggest that you start by editing articles that you do not feel so passionate about, clearly by your user name you have some affiliation/admiration of the band Lillix, so maybe you should start by editing something apart from their music so that you can get a feel for the policies that we follow here. You have been a good faith editor, but have not been following policy. --kelapstick (talk) 20:52, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bottom line

[edit]

Article subjects are included in Wikipedia based on substantial coverage in reliable sources such as newspapers, magazines and books. This is the basis for determining wp:notability (the inclusion standard) and allows for verification. So if there isn't substantial coverage, it's generally not included. Once an article is included, content that is added also genereally needs to be verifiable and sourced. ChildofMidnight (talk) 02:12, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
