Rosemary Crossley[edit]

I understand you are attempting to make changes on the Rosemary Crossley Wikipedia page. I'm asking you to please discontinue attempting to editorialize and remove criticism. You are making these in small changes and I might have to revert all changes back to the last time the page was touched before you started making changes. Sgerbic (talk) 01:49, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The page as it was written was clearly written by one detractor. It is important to clear up misinformation and represent the large contribution she made to the community. I am removing editorialisation without a source, and adding information with clear and reliable citation. Lisarosemary8 (talk) 01:56, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please clearly check the sources and attribution I am using. I have not added any editorialisation. Lisarosemary8 (talk) 01:56, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please also be aware that she was successful in a defamation action about the newspaper articles which were cited at length. These were later removed from the internet and as such, it is not appropriate to cite their content or post links to the original articles. Lisarosemary8 (talk) 01:57, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Could you please advise us of your connection/expertise in the subject matter? Equine-man (talk) 07:08, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there and thanks.
I have no connection to, nor interest in, the controversial field of facilitated communication.
However, I knew Rosemary Crossley and have seen firsthand the impact she made in the disability community. She was made a member of the Order of Australia and was considered by some to be a "national treasure" - none of which is reflected in this Wikipedia page. The sources and narrative are one-sided and not accurate.
For example, "facilitated communication" is not even mentioned in the description of services provided by the Anne McDonald Centre, a not-for-profit care organisation in Melbourne, Victoria.
The movie Annie's Coming Out is not about "facilitated communication" but is based on "the true story of Annie McDonald, a child with cerebral palsy who was institutionalised from an early age in a hospital for children with severe disabilities, and was unable to communicate with anybody."
I would encourage you to read some further sources about her life's work, from which she never profited, such as the official statement from Disability Rights Australia:

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Lisarosemary8. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Rosemary Crossley, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Equine-man (talk) 07:20, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much. I was not aware of the guidelines and am happy to disclose a personal relationship with Rosemary Crossley as a conflict of interest. I have added only neutral language and sources, and have removed unsourced references that make claims that are not neutral.
What would be the best way for me to do this? Should I declare a conflict of interest and continue to make these edits to ensure a neutral, balanced Wikipedia entry?
Or is it better if I submit a list of inaccuracies and suggested additions/clarifications, with sources and citations?
Kind regards,
Lisa Lisarosemary8 (talk) 07:57, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
