Editing Pages

I was not trying to vandalize any pages - I was only adding information based on what I saw in pages in other languages. I do not like the thought of being blocked as indefinite punishment for trying to add more information to pages of female figure skaters so that readers can learn more about them. Please do not think of me as disruptive. As you should know, I have a right to edit pages as much as you do.

Dear IP user, thank you for trying to clear this up! Wikipedia's policy (found here) is that information must come from a reliable source: it doesn't matter what the information is, if it does not have a source, then it can be challenged and removed. If the information you want to add can be supported by citations, then please add it back, along with references! Thanks, Longchess (talk) 23:39, 28 October 2020 (UTC)

about reptiles

http://www.reptile-database.org/db-info/SpeciesStat.html in the citations clearly shows 360 species of turtles and 10954 species of squamates, while the page on crocodilia shows 27 species of crocodiles: Gharial (Gavialis gangeticus)1 False gharial (Tomistoma schlegelii)2 American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis)3 Chinese alligator (Alligator sinensis)4 Cuvier's dwarf caiman (Paleosuchus palpebrosus)5 Smooth-fronted caiman (Paleosuchus trigonatus)6 Yacare caiman (Caiman yacare)7 Spectacled caiman (Caiman crocodilus)8 Broad-snouted caiman (Caiman latirostris)9 Black caiman (Melanosuchus niger)10 American crocodile (Crocodylus acutus)11 Hall's New Guinea crocodile (Crocodylus halli)12 Orinoco crocodile (Crocodylus intermedius)13 Freshwater crocodile (Crocodylus johnsoni)14 Philippine crocodile (Crocodylus mindorensis)15 Morelet's crocodile (Crocodylus moreletii)16 Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus)17 New Guinea crocodile (Crocodylus novaeguineae)18 Mugger crocodile (Crocodylus palustris)19 Saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus)20 Borneo crocodile (Crocodylus raninus)21 Cuban crocodile (Crocodylus rhombifer)22 Siamese crocodile (Crocodylus siamensis)23 West African crocodile (Crocodylus suchus)24 West African slender-snouted crocodile (Mecistops [Crocodylus] cataphractus)25 Central African slender-snouted crocodile (Mecistops [Crocodylus] leptorhynchus)26 Dwarf crocodile (Osteolaemus tetraspis)27 https://theconversation.com/climate-change-created-todays-large-crocodiles-121933

Dear IP user, Thanks for reaching out to me about this! If you have reliable citations for your information, please cite those sources when you add the information. Specifically: please cite the Reptile Database in the article when you mention those statistics. Thanks for making Wikipedia better, Longchess (talk) 01:40, 29 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Calvin Bassey, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ibrox. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Rollback granted

Hi Longchess. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Anarchyte (talkwork) 16:18, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

Your revert

I was just browsing your contributions following your request for rollback permissions ([1]). Your last revert ([2]) specifically re-added vandalism suggesting a Canadian local politician is a member of a Mexican drug cartel. While we all make mistakes, it'd probably be sensible to take just an extra moment or two to check while reverting vandalism especially on biographies of living persons as even inadvertent mistakes like this can cause real world harm and offence to article subjects? —Tom Morris (talk) 10:15, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

Tom Morris, thank you for pointing this out: I did not intend to reinstate vandalism, this was an honest mistake. I understand if this dissuades you from granting me rollback, but I assure you that this was not intentional. Thanks, Longchess (talk) 15:58, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
I've been thinking about this: to be more specific, I initially just saw that a field had been blanked and therefore restored the content. I did then realize something was off about the edit and decided to revisit it. However, the IP user had replaced the vandalism with correct information at that point, so I did not take further action. Longchess (talk) 22:34, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, I don't want to discourage you. We all make mistakes. Do keep going with anti-vandalism and learn from mistakes. (Since I've commented on here, I'll leave it to someone else to decide whether to grant rollback.) —Tom Morris (talk) 09:03, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
I see this as a mistake and nothing more. As such, I'm content granting rollback. Longchess, make sure you read every part of the diff when you rollback. Anarchyte (talkwork) 16:21, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
Thank you, I will make sure to. Longchess (talk) 20:46, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

Dick Gregory

Please restore "conspiracy theorist" to the first sentence of the article. Otherwise Citation (1) makes no sense. Please, look at Citation (1). It links to an article which states,"But, for Dick Gregory, who has spent much of his life speaking and writing about the ways in which he believes the government has conspired against Americans..." Citation (1) supports the well known fact that Dick Gregory was an avid conspiracy theorist. Please look at the hundreds of YouTube videos in which he proposes and repeats numerous conspiracy theories, many of them very controversial. 2601:19B:C500:270:C57B:A1EA:8297:B02E (talk) 00:56, 20 November 2020 (UTC)

Dear IP user, thank you for bringing this to my attention. If the information you have supplied has valid sources, that's great! Make sure to refrence information when you add it to articles, as otherwise it appears to not have a source. I included information on how to cite sources in the comment I left on your talk page, but feel free to ask if you have any other questions. Please note that sources for artices must be reliable. Thanks, Longchess (talk) 01:02, 20 November 2020 (UTC)

Zhang Zhidong

Hi! It seems you have rolled back some of my edit on the page about a historical figure. Please tell me how I can improve on my edit to fit the standard for publishing! Thank you! RunzeY (talk) 06:39, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

I am undoing the rollback temporarily just to add some more information for the record. I am currently in a wiki student programme and I need to leave traces on the article page so that my instructor can grade me. Please bear with me for a moment, and please undo my edit later if you find them not meeting the standard of wikipedia! Thank you for your contribution! RunzeY (talk) 08:49, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

RunzeY, sorry for the misunderstanding! I was doing routine vandalism patrol and saw this edit to Zhang Zhidong. Seeing the "0" inserted into "troops", I reverted the changes thinking that it was a test edit. I really should have checked the other changes you had made to the page, as I did not mean to revert your hard work. Sorry for the trouble, Longchess (talk) 14:38, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

Regarding Thermopylae

I was trying to add Dienekes as one of the "commanders" on the sidebar but somehow messed it up

Reason being is that Spartans were already hardcore and they fought til their knuckles broke, everybody knows that but if Dienekes was notable to be recorded in history by Herodotus, and if he fought a notch above the already godlike standard of other Spartans, then I'd argue he had an important part in the Greek leadership during the battle.

If you could throw it in the sidebar I'd appreciate it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dienekes

DmitriVladimir, thanks for explaining what happened with the article - it's all ok! I am not going to add Dienekes to the "Leaders" section, as I am not well-versed enough with the history of this battle to know his leadership status, if any (fighting potential alone does not confer leadership). If you feel confident in your ability to justify him as a leader, you can add him to the sidebar by putting the following into the "Commander of Combatant 1" section of the sidebar template: *[[Dienekes|Dienekes of Sparta]]{{KIA}}}}, keeping in mind to remove the final set of curly brackets which are currently on Demophilus's listing. However, this addition is likely to be challenged if there is no source to back it up: see Wikipedia's policy on citing sources in line with the policty on verifiability. Feel free to ask me or any other Wikipedia volunteer (such as those at the Teahouse) if you have any questions!

Your revert on Mary Dorcey

Hi! You might already be aware, but the text you reverted from Mary Dorcey was copied and pasted from the Amazon reviews page for one of her books. Blatant copyright violations like this should be revision deleted under the RD1 criterion. The {{copyvio-revdel}} template can be used to request revision deletion of copyvios, and a user script is available to populate the template by clicking a few buttons. Thanks, SamX [talk · contribs] 23:43, 17 August 2023 (UTC)

I was not aware of this. Thank you for letting me know! Longchess (talk) 02:12, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
