A tag has been placed on Bromcom, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. {{helpme}} I have posted my first article on wikipedia but I have been informed that it is up for speedy deletion as it is deemed as advertisement. I did not intend this article as advertisement, in fact i posted it on a practice page last week and opened up a discussion for other editors to comment on it before i posted it today. It was not mentioned once in that week that it was an advertisment. I would like help on what i need to change in the article specifically in order that it is viewed as an article? I have tried to make the tone as factual as possible and included references. (Lt06097 (talk) 14:11, 14 September 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Hi Lt06097,
Don't panic! With the sources you added, it is certainly not a candidate for speedy deletion anymore, therefore I removed the tag. You should continue to develop it and find more reliable sources, that is, a mention on the BBC is good but certainly not sufficient to write an article. Try to find more comprehensive ones to address the notability issue that still persists.

Thank you! I will work on adding to the article and references now. Will I be informed when then notability issues are no longer a problem? and how long do I have to make he relevant changes?(Lt06097 (talk) 14:57, 14 September 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Hi again,
You should look for secondary sources. The ref you added for the Tech Track 100 table is a primary source (that is, you take the information directly from the table). Writing article from primary sources is doing original research, which is forbidden on wikipedia. Try to find articles in the press to describe this company (the best is to take it from a book, but it is obvious here thate there is no book dedicated to Bromcom). Otherwise, it probably means that it is not notable enough and that writing an article is not possible. See also WP:NOT.
You will not be notified if another editor thinks the subject is notable. He (or she) will just remove the tag in the article. However, if an editor wishes to delete the article (because it doesn't meet the notability criterion or for some other reason) you should be notified on your talk page (this page).

Oh, I just saw the link the the Guardian. I think it sorts out the problem of notability. You should now:
  • Categorize the article so that readers can find it
  • Format the references (as I did for the guardian, you can use the {{Cite web}} template).
Calimo (talk) 16:02, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am having trouble formating the references on this article... can anyone be of any help? (Lt06097 (talk) 08:11, 15 September 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Help on external links is here: Wikipedia:How_to_edit_a_page#link-external. But it would be preferable to use the {{Cite web}} template: have a look at how I did on the Guardian ref. Just try, be bold and if it fails, someone will fix it! Calimo (talk) 14:49, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have tried to format a reference in the article.. it has gone very wrong! Im not sure what I am doing wrong?

You did not close the template. The syntax is fist you open it with {{ then you put name of the template (Cite web in this case), the parameters separated by | characters and then you close it with }}. So basically only the end }} were missing. I added them here. I'm sure the next time it will be good . Calimo (talk) 07:03, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

oh ok thanks! I think I have got the hang of it now :)

Does anyone know how I can insert a company logo into this article? (Lt06097 (talk) 13:19, 22 September 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Never tried it myself, but the general idea is as follows.
  1. Make a pot of very strong coffee—you're gonna need it!
  2. Proceed to the page WP:UPLOAD.
  3. Since this is a company logo, click on the word "organization" in the line about logos.
  4. Read all the small(!) print while drinking the coffee, and fill out the form as best you can. If you click on the logo of for instance Ability Plus Software, you'll see what the end result might look like.
  5. Click on the "Upload" button.
  6. Assuming all went well, add [[Image:Bromcom-logo.png]] (or whatever the file is called) to the line "logo = " in the infobox near the top of the article.
Hope it works for you. Cheers, Favonian (talk) 14:57, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
