Lucy's Retired Surfer's Bar[edit]

The article Lucy's Retired Surfer's Bar has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group or service and which would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. NawlinWiki 14:18, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • It wasn't just the links that made the article spammy. It was the entire tone of the article, starting with lines like "You can almost feel the sun on your face and the ocean-breeze in your hair when you walk into Lucy's Retired Surfer's Bar". Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a travel guide, and lines like that violate Wikipedia's policies on neutral point of view. There's no indication in the article that Lucy's is any more notable than thousands of other restaurants (see WP:CORP). Also, given your username, there's a conflict of interest problem. Nevertheless, per your request, I copied the text of the deleted article to your userspace at User:Lucysbar/Lucy's Retired Surfers Bar. I strongly suggest that you do not repost it until you've carefully read the above guidelines (including the advertising guidelines that I mentioned in my last post), and can honestly represent that the article meets those guidelines. NawlinWiki 22:44, 13 July 2007 (UTC) P.S., the Lucy's on Magazine St. in New Orleans has been reopened for over a year now.[reply]

Marshal Street[edit]

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. It does not matter that it's online and that anyone can write it. It is an encyclopedia. So judge Wikipedia's articles not by Internet website standards, but by encyclopedias' standards. Would you expect an Encarta article on Marshal Street to include humongous list of all the shops and cafes that exist or ever existed? Nope. Such info would be perfectly suited for a database of local attractions/guides/address book. But Wikipedia is not a guidebook. And an argument that other crap exists does not help: someone eventually will get to it and delete it. As one user said, don't add sewage to the already polluted pond.

What could be done? If you wish you could write a few paragraphs discussing the major attractions, their evolution and impact on local community. But such lists as they were do not belong on Wikipedia. Renata 22:28, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The file File:Lucy's top bar.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Personal file, no foreseeable encyclopedic use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
