National film lists

A while back you moved the Korean film lists (i.e. South Korean films of 1960List of South Korean films of 1960), which I assume is per the naming conventions at WP:SAL. However, many other lists (e.g. French films of 1960, Italian films of 1970 etc.) don't follow this convention. I was thinking that one way or another it should be desirable to be consistant in the naming of these articles, and was wondering what your thoughts were. PC78 (talk) 17:54, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Yes, it is a rather daunting number of articles to deal with. I might raise the issue with the project again. Happy New Year! PC78 (talk) 18:23, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Happy & Healthy New Year!

Thanks for your kind note to my talk page. I survived the holiday alright and even managed some fun with family and friends. Unfortuately my Crohn's and other medical conditions do not take a day off for holidays. But hey, that's the way life is for me I am sad to say. Thank you very much for thinking of me though, I really appreciate it.--CrohnieGalTalk 00:22, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi again, I am just curious here so of course feel free not to answer, but I'd love to know if you are in remission. I had an 8 month remission one time in late 2004 which I lost after a hernia surgery in Feb. '05. But boy did I enjoy myself those 8 months! My family esp. my son and DIL were shocked at the energy and my behavior. I would love those times again. Have a fun and healthy weekend, --CrohnieGalTalk 17:45, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Cannes opener

Hey, Happy 2009! I see (and love) what you are doing with the 1946 Cannes Film Festival. I hope this is a sterling year for you. :) Ecoleetage (talk) 15:36, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for your kind comments on my work regarding Oscar Micheaux. Researching his films is difficult, since many of the titles are lost and there is very little information on their content or history. But what I am finding on these films is often amazing, especially A Daughter of the Congo (that must have a wacky film!). I have been concerned about Wikipedia's spotty coverage of race film history -- I took the initiative to upgrade the coverage of Spencer Williams and now I am filling in the Micheaux canon. If you ever want to talk about films at greater length, you are welcome to ping me via e-mail. Cheers! Ecoleetage (talk) 15:59, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Rediscovered films

Thanks for the shout-out on Dance on the Volcano. I have also just written a new article for Fritz Lang's The Spiders, and updated the list of rediscovered films for Dance on the Volcano, The Spiders, and The Deerslayer and Chingachgook.

WP:FILMS Questionnaire

As a member of WikiProject Films, you are invited to take part in the project's first questionnaire. It is intended to gauge your participation and views on the project. At the conclusion of the questionnaire, the project's coordinators will use the gathered feedback to find new ways to improve the project and reach out to potential members. The results of the questionnaire will be published in next month's newsletter. If you know of any editors who have edited film articles in the past, please invite them to take part in the questionnaire. Please stop by and take a few minutes to answer the questions so that we can continue to improve our project. Happy editing!

Most AFD participators bring articles to AFD because there is no significant coverage in reliable sources. So I don't see why you told me to put a cleanup tag on it and you don't tell anyone else to put cleanup tags on articles instead of nominating it. Also, putting a cleanup tag on that article is stupid because tags can sit around for years without the article getting improved. And telling me that I should have tagged it with a cleanup tag is stupid because I can do whatever I want as long as it doesn't go against the guidelines and polices. Schuym1 (talk) 15:39, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Why don't you complain to most other AFD users then instead of just me? It may be factual, but it needs to be notable also. I don't like the idea of a non-notable articles sitting around for years. Schuym1 (talk) 15:49, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
And that deadline thing is a stupid essay. Schuym1 (talk) 15:51, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Docs by country

Hi there. Good to hear from you, yes, I'll try to remember to keep adding the Docs by country cat, too. As for Hotcats, I'm surprised a prolific editor like yourself doesn't use it. Then again, it doesn't do much: it just saves you having to Click on the edit tab and it has an autocomplete feature when you type the category name. Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Films directed by Bobby A. Suarez, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Films directed by Bobby A. Suarez has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Films directed by Bobby A. Suarez, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here CSDWarnBot (talk) 19:41, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi Lugnuts - I've listed this stub template, which you've just made, at the stub-sorting "discoveries" page. I'm not convinced that it would have passed muster if it had been proposed - things like films are usually only split by currently-existing countries, and - though i can see the point in this case - I'm concerned it might set a problematical precedent. Grutness...wha? 01:02, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Category:Short documentaries and/or Category:Short films

I'm never sure about how much to overlap categories. I've started substituting Category:Short documentaries for Category:Short films, including many of the Oscar nominee articles you've created. The short doc cat was woefully underpopulated and the Short film category seemed unwieldy and large, to me. I guess I was influenced by the tag on the documentary films master cat, urging us to move articles out into subcategories. But I notice in the articles you've created you prefer overlapping categories. For example, on those short Oscar doc articles you categorized as American films and American documentaries. I take it you'd like me to add rather than substitute short docs? Shawn in Montreal (talk) 01:29, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

  • I've read WP:OVERCAT and WP:SUBCAT and it seemed to me that some overlapping is perfectly acceptable. So I'll add rather than subtract and leave it to others to prune it back, should they so desire. 14:47, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Liliomfi

I mistook the film for a personal plug for a director. Articles that are focused on an individual may qualify as an A7 for that individual despite being ostensibly about another topic. For the creator of an article to remove a CSD tag, no matter how erroneous, so long as in good faith, is a violation of CSD policy. I won't replace the tag, but please do not remove CSD tags you do not agree with in the future. Shadowjams (talk) 11:07, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Please make yourself familiar with current structure of film infobox before undoing edits. Parameters webpage, imdb_id, amg_id are depreciated, see Template:Infobox FilmHenry Merrivale (talk) 22:04, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for getting back to me. You're doing great job with those Cannes submissions. One minor thing: lang-ru template is for Cyrilic texts, for transliterations it's better to use translit template. I also usually take a liberty of adding original Cyrilic title as a part of infobox parameter title. This probably should be discussed within the WP, but w/o this info it's sometimes quite difficult to identify the film. Henry Merrivale (talk) 10:00, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of João Mendes

A tag has been placed on João Mendes requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Shnitzled (talk) 10:51, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Yup

You tagged this under CSD#A7 that states "article about a real person, etc, that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant." Cleary the article indicates that he is important, with 33 films directed, and one entered into the Cannes Film Festival. I think another editor has removed the tag. Thanks

Clearly? You have a foul attitude. Alter it before you ever contact me again. Shnitzled (talk) 11:00, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Film requests

Hi. Are you still going to work on those French films I mentioned months ago? A request I have at present is to start all of the films of Carmen Miranda? Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:31, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Ah OK, at least you are still adding films which we all want! One thing though can you return the favor on the stub proposals page and provide some input on my Asian film stubs category proposal. The idea is that is becomes a parent cat and categories and outstanding ones which don't hit 60. Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:38, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Also see Hans Söhnker for sintance. PLease add a {Expand German} {Expand Swedish} {Expand Japanese} etc tag at the top of an article if it has a better articles on another wikipedia. Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:43, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

I'll try to generate some more stubs on Italian films over the next few weeks. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:15, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Category:Year of birth unknown

Category:Year of birth unknown reads: "This category (and within its own specific purpose, the analogous Category:Year of death unknown) is intended for use on discussion pages of individuals from antiquity whose year of birth is lost to history and never likely to be known."

I think Lifetime has to stop supporting unknown. It is in my plans to propose it and it's one of the reason that Lifetime should never be used against yob/yod categories. Thanks, Magioladitis (talk) 10:05, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

For Those Who Will Follow

Hi, Lugnuts. Just noticed your name in the Afd for the Nintendo forum. Just wanted to let you know I did some updates and corrections on the For Those Who Will Follow article, including a rename. It's a film I know rather well. Anyway, it's all there in the article, with sources. I'll also add a synopsis and add some context about the film's importance in the cinema direct movement -- and de-internal link the "cast" names -- when I get a chance. These were villagers in Île aux Coudres playing themselves: I don't think there any chance they ever appeared in anything else, or were notable for anything other than for their appearance in this documentary. Let me know if you have any objections to any of this. best, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 19:22, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

  • As this is likely to come up again, I've moved our discussion to Talk:Pour la suite du monde. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 14:13, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
    • Wait a second, upon review that 1963 Cannes reference you provide makes no mention of "For Those Who Will Follow," only the official title. Was that your own translation? Please clarify. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 16:40, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
