A couple suggestions

[edit]
  1. Can you add a twinkle vandalism reversion link to each item? Simply take the diff link and append "&twinklerevert=vand" (without the quotation marks of course).
  2. Another good filter to have would be "Blank edit summary".
  3. This is purely optional, but I think it makes more sense (for me, at least) to have the most recent vandalism on top, with the older ones getting pushed downwards.

Thanks. Spidern 19:19, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I second the twinkle revert, even if as an add-on. I use the tools together, and this would be a great help. --Puchiko (Talk-email) 16:55, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summary

[edit]

The edit summary should have [[ and ]] instead of what is showing up around the article in the edit summary. Can someone fix this? MathCool10 Sign here! 22:32, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is a problem with the conversion. %5B is the same thing to a computer as [, so the browser is seeing the code for %5B%5B<article>%5B%5B and is entering it as such, rather than converting that to [[<article>]]. I don't have any problems with firefox, the problem appears to be limited to Internet Explorer. Not sure if it would be possible to change the code where %5B appears to instead have the [ character.--Terrillja talk 19:41, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed, please could somebody confirm that it now works in Firefox as well as MS IE (clear your browser cache with Shift-Reload). Thanks, Cacycle (talk)

Submit

[edit]

Wouldn't it be useful if along with Block, there was a Request Block where it would take you to Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism and add the IP/Username in the correct fashion to User-reported. This would save a lot of time wasted which could be used cleaning up more vandalism.
Limideen 16:34, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You can use TWINKLE to do this. It will automatically add a tab to the top of IP and user talk pages to allow you to report them. -- BlastOButter42 See Hear Speak 07:15, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I use it now!

Problems?

[edit]

Hi, my Anti-vandal tool hasn't been working of the late, so I tried re-installing it by adding the code a second time to the bottom of the page (which, obviously doubled the presence of the tool). My problem(s):

  • I'm not sure which section I need to remove from monobook.js to remove the first instance
  • I want to keep only the second copy that takes up one line, not the older version which takes up so much that I can't identify
  • Can someone help me find and remove the first one... I don't know which parts of the .js are for the Anti-Vandal tool

If someone can help me and is an admin, feel free to correct it yourself, if not, please leave the code at my talk page (if it's big, consider sticking it at a subpage or a pastebin. Thanks! :) Deon555 (talk) 10:25, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Never copy and paste the whole programs, always load them using document.write, importScript, or addOnloadHook, otherwise you do not get the frequent updates of these programs. I highly doubt that any code from 2006 would still be functional. I suggest that you blank your monobook.js page and start from scratch using the official installation code of the tools. Cacycle (talk) 12:34, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I was young and n00bish back then :) But entire blanking sounds frightening.. I guess I could give it a go... Thanks for your reply — Deon555talkI'm BACK! 12:59, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

[edit]

Are you allowed to use the rollback feature on this tool even if you do not have the rights? -Raziel (talk) 14:58, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback is supported for all users, just make sure that you check use non-admin rollback on the top of the page. Tiggerjay (talk) 05:30, 5 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also note worthy is if you are not an administrator but have rollback permissions, you can leave use non-admin rollback unchecked. Tiggerjay (talk) 05:30, 5 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Chuck Norris?

[edit]

Anyone know why Lupin filters out Chuck Norris? ThoseStarsBurnLikeDiamonds (talk) 01:22, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's a common internet joke that's been around at least for the better part of a decade. People like to put Chuck Norris stuff in everywhere, although tbh the internet mob is fickle and moves on to others, such as House. ~ Amory (talk) 03:49, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Beta compatibility?

[edit]

Not sure if this is the place to put this, but does anyone know how to enable this tool with the beta skin? or when is it going to be ported/tested (I'd like to try it out)? Overthinkingly 20:01, 13 August 2009 (UTC) To clarify: if the next version of the wikipedia skins will use Vector, prehaps we should adapt it to the new skin (it works for monobook) Overthinkingly 20:04, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You can get it working with Beta by changing special:MyPage/vector.js instead, since Vector is the new Beta theme (monobook.js is only included when you're using Monobook as a theme, you must add it to the javascript file for the theme you're using). Dysfunctional tool

[edit]

I can't get Lupin's Anti-vandal tool to work. It displays links in the toolbox, and starts to come up when the links are selected, but doesn't actually display the changes. Even with popups to look at diffs, manually reviewing Special:RecentChanges or Special:AbuseLog really isn't ideal. Is there something wrong with my installation, or is the tool down for everyone? [edit]

Nice tool. Would it make sense to have another "remove earlier output" link at the bottom of the group of edits? Then we could clear the old stuff if there's a pause before the next lot arrives. PL290 (talk) 08:34, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Chrome compatability

[edit]

Tool seems to work perfectly in Google Chrome. Any chance you could add limited Twinkle functionality (Particularly "rollbackAGF" and "rollbackVANDAL") to the tool? It slows the process down to have to go to each page for reverting when the comparison function is already available in the tool. --N419BH (talk) 12:57, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WP "New features" breaks tool?

[edit]

The WP "New features" that just got turned on seem to break the tool (no longer in my toolbox). Clearing cache did not help. To get the tool back, I clicked the "Take me back" link. I did not know at first if that was reversible, but I do now get a "New features" link I can use to turn them back on once the fix is known. PL290 (talk) 14:40, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The thing is they changed the skin from monobook to vector. So you have to copy the contents of your monobook.js file to your vector.js file, I have linked them here for you, then you just reload your browser and you should be fine.--Terrillja talk 17:28, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that very helpful info (did I miss that somewhere in what was published?!!). That also explains why some css-related things are askew. Should be easier to sort out now I understand that. PL290 (talk) 17:50, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

[edit]

There is a problem with the rollback feature for me, even with use non-admin rollback checkbox UNTICKED, it still doesn't use Rollback, even though presumably they both use the same rollback
Limideen 15:28, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Point 1: no, they don't use the same rollback. With the box ticked, it presents an edit window with the reverted change, ready for you to save the edit (i.e., not real rollback). As you're a rollbacker, you wouldn't want to do it the slow way like that. Point 2: when you click the rollback link, it fires some javascript to open a new window. Don't try and launch it in a new window yourself, or the javascript doesn't work. That's probably your problem. PL290 (talk) 21:02, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Vector quirks

[edit]

Now that I'm using this tool under Vector, the JS-generated messages at the top and bottom (that is, the main display of matching revisions) of the page are in a larger font than the rest of the page, and larger than I prefer. Are there particular CSS classes I can tinker with to adjust the display of these messages? --R'n'B (call me Russ) 21:26, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, I am trying to fix it, I will post a CSS change if I find one (Or a JS)
Also, if you dislike the new title, you can add #lupinantivandaltooltitle {display: none} to Special:MyPage/vector.css
Limideen 08:03, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Update (thanks to Firebug): the stuff above the page text is in a <div class="recent2.controls"> and the stuff below is in <div class="recent2.status">. But the "." in CSS selectors is used to indicate a class name, so the lines in your vector.css file need to be formatted like this:
   div.recent2\.controls { font-size: smaller; }
   div.recent2\.status { font-size: smaller; }

"Modern" skin

[edit]

Lupin,

I love your tool and make use of it frequently. I did notice, however, that on certain skins, it tends to not display correctly. For example, if I use the "Modern" skin (I run with a customized side bar too), when I run your anti-vandal tool it prints the output all the way across the screen (so that covers the toolbars as well). Is there a way to adjust that in the tool. (Here's a screenshot)

KoshVorlonNaluboutes,Aeria Gloris 15:35, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have used Lupin's anti-vandal tool in monobook and vector skins seamlessly. But in modern skin, as shown by KoshVorlon, the updates are not displayed properly. I believe some tweaking can be made to correct this, and that would be greatly appreciated, as lot of editors user modern skin as well. WarFox (talk | contribs) 18:29, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

~~~~
[edit]
I When there's a welcome for a new user, it generally reminds them to sign talk page posts with ~~~~. These four tildes are flagged by the tool, so I am getting a lot of these welcomes. It would be great if they didn't show up. E2eamon (talk) 00:25, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
EDIT: Interestingly enough, right after I made this post, I went to use the tool. This post was flagged for the tildes. E2eamon (talk) 00:26, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Bug with Chrome
[edit]
When I use IE everything's normal; however, when I use Chrome, often the pop-up window does not pop up when rollback cannot be done. Also, the warning messages often don't show up themselves. Kayau Voting IS evil 02:56, 13 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
False detections
[edit]
When a word or phrase from Lupin's "bad word" list is already in the article but was not added when the user made the edit, the tool still "detects" the edit. For example, say someone corrects a spelling error in Sherry Glaser. Lupin's filter recent changes tool will detect it as Matched lesbian, just because at the end of the article includes Category:Lesbian actors, even though that part of the article remained unchanged in the edit. Please make the tool so that it does not detect an edit unless the word was added in that edit, and not just that the word is in the article. Thanks, Samwb123T-C-E 17:44, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'd actually make that an optional feature if you go with it. Some vandalism has slipped through ages past and there's no reason to assume every bad word has been properly vetted. Thanks for the tool! Ocaasi (talk) 16:19, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No longer works in FF 4.0b8 onwards
[edit]
As of Firefox 4.0 beta 8, the anti-vandal tool no longer works, due to the following error:
Exception: regular expression too complex Source File: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Lupin/recent2.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript Line: 128, Column: 0 Category: content javascript
This is apparently due to the new regex engine intended for use in Firefox 4.0. I don't know enough about the AVT code to fix this, so I guess I'll just use another browser until someone with the necessary knowledge can tinker with it. --Darkwind (talk) 00:47, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have had issues with a few of the Beta 4.0's not loading the Anti-Vandal tool's feed. If it helps to fix / track the issue I have just noticed it is only with the Filter Recent Changes and not the other feeds provided by the tool. Annoyingly this is the only part of the tool I use and it seems strange this part is out? WoodyWerm (talk) 15:20, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Update. After leaving the page open the timeout notice eventually appeared asking if I wanted to continue monitoring the feed. However the page did not actually show any of the feed during this time. WoodyWerm (talk) 17:13, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Reduce font size
[edit]
Is it possible to reduce the font size on the anti-vandal tool pages (maybe with a separate CSS)? For some reason it looks awkwardly big on my screen. --bender235 (talk) 09:43, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
EDIT: Now there is a fix in section "Vector quirks" above, but it somehow only reduces the font size of the options boxes at the top, not the list below. --bender235 (talk) 09:51, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Migration/Update
[edit]
Hi!
I did some updates to the current version of this script taking into account the migration guide and now the code is considered valid by the validation tool recommended by MediaWiki developers (JSHint)
Could someone test it for some time to see if it is working as expected? If that is the case, the code could be updated for everyone and ported to the other wikis which are using this tool.
If you would like to test, just replace the command you are using to import the script by
mw.loader.load( '//en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Sandbox&oldid=478829594&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&smaxage=21600&maxage=86400' );
and clear your browser's cache.
