Hi. When you recently edited Geno (song), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Madness (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Articles for Creation Appeal[edit]

Articles for Creation urgently needs your help!

Articles for Creation is desperately short of reviewers! We are looking for urgent help, from experienced editors, in reviewing submissions in the pending submissions queue. Currently the are 2610 submissions waiting to be reviewed.

Do you have what it takes?
  1. Are you familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines?
  2. Do you know what Wikipedia is and is not?
  3. Do you have a working knowledge of the Manual of Style, particularly article naming conventions?
  4. Are you autoconfirmed?
  5. Can you review submissions based on their individual merits?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog.

I'd like to ask why you deleted my article[edit]

I am not an author, nor do I work for, nor am I affiliated with Counselling Connect. Why did you delete this article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alberta-girl-73 (talkcontribs) 14:42, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Alberta-girl-73. I deleted the article because it looked like an advert. You probably didn't intend it to be like that, I guess. Things like companies' mission statements (i.e. [Counselling Connect] exists to communicate a variety of approaches...) often aren't particularly appropriate to the article. I've "userfied" the article so you can work on it – you'll find it at User:Alberta-girl-73/Counselling Connect. My suggestion is to find an existing article of a similar company/organisation/magazine and use that as the basis of the Counselling Connect page. If you want to let me know if there's an similar article that you'd like to base the CC one on, just let me know and I'd be happy to help you out! All the best, matt (talk) 14:47, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Business for breakfast[edit]

Hello,

I'd like to know why you deleted my page, I only just started an article about a company who has swindled 50 people out of £20k went back to continue, it had gone. I thought anybody could publish on Wikipedia

Look forward to hearing from yo soon... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bankruptforbreakfast (talkcontribs) 22:05, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) Please do not add original research or novel syntheses of published material to articles as you apparently did to Business for breakfast. Please cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. --Orange Mike | Talk 22:10, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, anybody may write content on Wikipedia. However, we have policies and guidelines that govern or make recommendations on that content. In this case, the article you wrote was entirely one-sided (one of our core policies is that of a neutral point of view) and seemed more like soapboxing than an objective, balanced article. We do not accept personal opinion in articles (your first sentence started with "Business For Breakfast is in my opinion..."). Additionally, the organisation Business for Breakfast doesn't seem notable – there's no real hits in Google News, and standard Google Search hits all seem to be from the organisation itself. Finally, it should go without saying that as your writing contained unsourced negative information, you should read our WP:LIBEL policy. Thanks to User:Orangemike for his input above. matt (talk) 22:31, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

AWB error[edit]

Just a heads-up - you made an incorrect "correction" here:[1]. Not every instance of "passed on" is a euphemism for "died".  Will Beback  talk  20:06, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks – I'm surprised this happened as I've been double checking each AWB edit before saving, knowing that there are multiple meaning of the terms I'm changing. However, just the other day my XML for search queries got corrupted – and this edit ties in perfectly with using my new file. Obviously I need to have a look at it! Dear Matt, I'm hugely impressed by the speed with which you have reacted to my edit; I had though that "original research" was just what was needed to get this stub started, but now understand Wiki policy a little better. I'm travelling to Oxford next week and may get a chance to consult the Bodleian Library for any reference on Guizhou province or Tianzhu County. Wil Wainwright Page[edit]

why did you delete it. I haven't finished it yet? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cornflakesandmilk (talkcontribs) 07:24, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Cornflakesandmilk. I deleted the page as it was an unreferenced biography (we mustn't have these) and failed our notability guidelines for musicians – as such it was liable for speedy deletion at any time. You're welcome to rewrite the page (I suggest you use our articles for creation tool as it's helpful for this sort of thing. However, you'll need to include reliable, third party sources in the article. Reliable sources are not social networking or user-generated content sites, and third-party sources must be independent of the subject (i.e. not connected to Wil Wainwright) so to avoid a conflict of interest or any neutrality problems. Remember that Wikipedia itself is never finished; all pages are constantly changing. matt (talk) 07:35, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Martyn, thanks for the message. Can you find a source that doesn't reference TMZ? The way I'm reading the USA Today article, it seems they're just basing their story on the TMZ report. Regards, matt (talk) 18:22, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Forget that, BBC have just announced independently. If it's OK with you, I'd rather use this as a source. matt (talk) 18:26, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes no worries. I don't know anything about TMZ so if you think they are unreliable; would rather use the Beeb where possible anyway, regards Martyn Smith (talk) 18:29, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

TMZ are just a celebrity gossip site, often first on the scene of stories of celebrities' deaths. It creates a lot of work for us, as although they're often correct, many news agencies in turn cite them as a source so we have to be on the lookout for this. However, the BBC have been pretty quick on this one with an independent story. Cheers, matt (talk) 18:32, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

One Direction tour[edit]

see offical website its billed as the 2013 world tour AdabowtheSecond (talk) 21:33, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

it will probably get a new name just like with what happened to the 2012 World Tour

You've proved my point there – 2012 World Tour goes to one by Madonna, not One Direction. The reason I moved and redirected the article was that:
  • "2013 World Tour" is meaningless and ambiguous on its own
  • It's capitalised, implying it's actually the given name
I can't see where on the website it uses the phrase 2013 World Tour implying it's the proper name. Until there's a given name (say, in support of an album release) then we should not give it a name. There are many articles that "2013 world tour" could apply to, so we should disambiguate using redirect and a disambiguation page if necessary. As you undid my edit, did you check there were no double redirects through the other redirect pages I made? matt (talk) 21:52, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)[edit]

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:24, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Matt, there's a typo in the above page: "breather her last" should be "breathed her last". I found it while expanding the article about Sandy Blythe; I wasn't too sure whether to use "took his life" or "committed suicide" there. "Committed suicide" sounds a little harsher, but does plainly spell out the facts. Graham87 01:25, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for August 26[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited The Wedding Video (2012 film), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page The Metro (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Deletion of page 'Not Just Fate'[edit]

This page was deleted as 'Copyright violation' and amazon's link of the same book was mentioned. I am authorized by the author to create this page. Please suggest if I should use any tags to avoid this page from deletion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abhishekjindal12 (talkcontribs) 11:03, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Abhishekjindal12. First, you will need to identify the copyright holder of the text on the Amazon site. You may know this already, but I suspect it belongs to either the book's publisher or—depending on Amazon's content policy—Amazon themselves. Let's assume that the publisher owns the writes to the blurb. You should follow our donating copyrighted materials instructions, particularly the section entitled WP:DCM#Granting us permission to copy material already online. This will involve sending a message to the Wikimedia Foundation from the publisher, showing that they are happy for this re-use.
Alternatively, if (due to Amazon's policies) they own rights to the text (like they may well do if it's a customer review or similar), there's probably not a lot that can be done. Without reading through their T&Cs, I suspect they do not licence their material for reuse for commercial projects (though Wikipedia itself isn't commercial, our licence is such that our content can be reused by commercial organisations).
The third factor to consider, regardless of whether we can reuse the text on Wikipedia, is whether it is appropriate. As the content was not originally written for Wikipedia, it may not be suitable. Does it conform to our neutral point of view policy? Does it have numerous reliable references? On first look at the deleted page, it seems that it may struggle to pass both of those policies.
Thanks for your message—let me know if you need any more help with this. Cheers, matt (talk) 09:32, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Mattgirling,
Appreciate your reply. I am a new contributor and still learning.
I have contacted author as per amazon's author page http://www.amazon.com/Shilpa-Arora-Sharma/e/B0091EUAN8, the Author owns the copyright of the work and has sent a permission email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org from admin@shilpaarorasharma.com (where www.shilpaarorasharma.com is the official website of the author)
For the second factor and third factor, the author owns the copyrights for the material and further, I re-wrote the description of the book specifically for wikipedia during my last attempt of the page creation and such a description has not been published before about the book. Please un-delete the last created page for 'Not Just Fate' and I request you to help me in modifying the content further to make it suitable for wikipedia. ::Thanks once again. Abhishekjindal12 (talk) 12:53, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'm happy to restore the page, which I have done (but added some tags on the page to make it clear the page needs work). I'm more than happy to work with you on this article. I appreciate you're a new user, but you clearly know more about this subject than I do—equally, I know how Wikipedia's formatting system works, so I can help in that regard. Orphaned non-free media (File:Thamesdiamondjubileepageantlogo.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Thamesdiamondjubileepageantlogo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Little Mix[edit]

Has it been confirmed that their album is called DNA? — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 19:07, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not to my knowledge. I've turned the DNA (Little Mix album) article into a redirect for the time-being, pending any sources. matt (talk) 20:35, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Actually it was confirmed here but its probably too soon for an article to be created. — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 20:40, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Looks as if that article was published after I made any edits about "DNA". I agree about the album article—it's too soon; we have no reliable sources that give us information that can't already be concisely included in the group article—but I also didn't create the original article... matt (talk) 20:43, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ah no that's fine I just mentioned cause you seemed interested in the article. Its useful information. I've yet to "fly" with Little Mix on their "Wings" yet... — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 21:11, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ah I see. I'm only interested as this seems to gather quite a lot of traffic, and thus vandalism or unconstructive (but WP:AGF) edits. I can't say I've even heard "Wings" yet—not the sort of Wings I'm into musically...! matt (talk) 21:15, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Matt,
Just to let you know. Danny has made his first edits on WP. We know our way round WP better than he, so can you help me to keep an eye on any problems he might run into with COI, secondary sources, and all the other WP policies we have. Thanks. --Aspro (talk) 14:42, 21 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Page Curation newsletter[edit]

Hey MIDI. I'm dropping you a note because you used to (or still do!) patrol new pages. This is just to let you know that we've deployed and developed Page Curation, which augments and supersedes Special:NewPages - there are a lot of interesting new features :). There's some help documentation here if you want to familiarise yourself with the system and start using it. If you find any bugs or have requests for new features, let us know here. Thanks! Protection on Little Mix article[edit]

Can you please unprotect the Little Mix page. Some of the information is incorrect. — Amelia —Preceding undated comment added 06:25, 7 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Amelia. The protection on Little Mix is justified as the article receives a high level of vandalism from unregistered users. It's great that you want to contribute, and fortunately you've noticed the process of doing so on protected pages—i.e. by using the {{editprotected}} template. I will not unprotect the page (the protection expires this evening anyway), but I will happily see to your request on the talk page. If you have any other questions about the article, feel free to ask them on the article's discussion page (Talk:Little Mix) or here on my talk page. Thanks, matt (talk) 10:27, 7 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Jaime Mañalich[edit]

You were referring to this version [2]. This is ridiculous, it seems that this [3] is not a sufficient reference. I recommend that you read this. Read also the comment here: [4]. It seems to me that the author recommends you to read this. In sum, a frivolous WP:BLPPROD. HaŋaRoa (talk) 12:59, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

From your edit history it seems you've not really edited since 2010, when this happened—over two years ago. It's clearly been resolved with no conflicts; User:Phil Bridger's edit made sense. There's nothing to discuss. matt (talk) 13:18, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Felix Baumgartner Controversy[edit]

Concerning your revert in the article on Felix Baumgartner: I'd like to remember you of the historic fact that Austrians have played a significant role during the Nazi regime, thus comments by prominent Austrian persons favouring the installation of a dictatorship (and may it be a "moderate" one) including the expression of a disdain towards democratic structures will quite naturally be received as a serious matter by the public in Austria and the German speaking world. Baumgartner's utterances on his political views were reported and commented by media worldwide and have stirred debate and criticism in Austrian, Swiss and German mainstream media (e.g. search on google.at for a quick overview) Thus the matter can be labeled a "controversy" with due significance for the concerning WP article, which neither represents "the view of a distinct minority" nor "give(s) undue weight" to a certain (minority) viewpoint as mentioned in WP:UNDUE. Please also refer to the article's German version, where the passage is confirmed by the WP community. Best regards, --Sportdirektor (talk) 17:31, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You've effectively answered my problems with the article with this post. My concern was that we cannot call something a controversy without a third party referring to it as such (though I can't see that this story has had worldwide coverage, it certainly hasn't been big news here in the UK). Just because Baumgartner (allegedly) made a controversial comment, we can't just add that to the article—there are many other things he's said in interviews that we haven't included, therefore we must have some sort of threshold for inclusion. That threshold lies with third party coverage (i.e. does the media call it a controversy, and would we be able to add a section the article proportional to the coverage?). By giving that Google link you've shown the media has had some coverage. It doesn't seem particularly extensive, but enough to add to the article—I'd suggest it goes under a "personal life" section rather than giving it its own header, as that would be giving one minor part of Baumgartner's biography undue weight. Thanks for following up. matt (talk) 17:57, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
