Thank you. The picture was taken by one of Mr. Guenther's adult children and is on his website. I have it direct as a jpg.
I think you need permission from the photographer to release it under the GFDL (or another license that allows anyone to use it for any purpose). So long as you have that, you can go ahead. Pseudomonas(talk) 19:19, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What more can I do to improve this page; get it out of orphan status and make sure it is fully wikified?#

Nonsense of Olinger Stories

I have added some solid information to the Olinger Stories entry, I think. I can get a list of stories when I can get a copy of the book, although, as I wrote, all of the stories are in Updike's first two collections, one of which I have finished detailing. Pigeon Feathers remains to do (after rereading). Perhaps the stories that are in Olinger Stories should be indicated clearly at the story entries for the two collections? One now must "get" that the youthful autobiographical stories are the ones that will be in Olinger Stories.

You don't have to put references in any order; it's done automatically.

Tips on referencing

There are lots of ways to do this, some are simple, some more complex.

Personally, I like using citation templates, and fill in as much as I possibly can; maybe a bit more work, but I think it looks better. You have a <REF> at the start, then a suitable cite tag, then </REF>. An example usage is;

Of course, you don't have to put everything in, just whatever you can. The above example is a book, but I've included a 'convenience link' to a website that displays it.

Then, at the end of the document (but before any 'category' tags), you need a references section. You just put,

Hard work? - help is at hand. There are lots of tools that create cite tags automagically. Personally, I use Zotero for the web links, and the cite book generator for books.

I also recommend you look at other articles and copy from them - especially featured articles, which should have good refs.

about the author, but there are a lot of links to his work---in established mainstream magazines, publishers and periodicals. I would like a new judgment---to eliminate the advertisement judegment----or to tell me what yet to do to achieve that status. And/or a judegment of its short but, I hope, okay quality.

OK, so - as per above, it needs inline references. Let's take a concrete example, and work from there. First line, "Dan Guenther, born in Waukegan, Illinois, in 1944..."
Please tell me, by editing here and replying below - where is a reliable source that proves that he was born in Waukegan in 1944? You can provide a link below using the format [http://www.google.com Google], which will come out like this: Google. Give me that source, and I can show you how it should be added, and what needs to be done throughout.

{{help}} I have a first edition of The Red Tent. I entered the full correct publisher on wikipedia but it shows up in red??!! Also, the cover shown at wikipedia is not the first edition. I do not know how to add/change an image.

The redlink is there because the page linked to does not yet exist (Wikipedia is a growing project, and we don't have pages about everything... yet! ;D). The best solution to this would be to create the page (if the subject is notable, read WP:NN), or to redirect to St. Martins Press, which appears to be the parent company (which is what I've done for now). As to images, if you have the image of the original cover, it may be possible to upload it to Wikipedia, so long as copyright is observed. Read through WP:Upload. And also check there isn't already that image on Wikipedia, by doing a search. To add an image to a page, you can use this format: [[File:<name of file>]], replacing "name of file" with the name of the file, which you choose when uploading. See Help:Images and other uploaded files for more. You should also double check that the image you think is the first edition cover is, and provide a source in the article. Hope that helps. I do not know how to eliminate the Cite error: The opening <ref> tag is malformed or has a bad name (see the help page). mark from the text of the first paragraph of the article on Dan Guenther.
