Ireland WikiProject banners

Hi Mabuska, I notice that you have removed the Ireland project banners from several articles recently. Just because they are primarily associated with the country project Northern Ireland does not exclude them being also within the scope of the island-wide geographic project Wikipedia:WikiProject Ireland. If I understand it correctly GAA, which are the articles I noted, is played on an island-wide basis anyway. Many article are assessed by both projects. ww2censor (talk) 13:07, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

I was expecting this to be raised up by someone. Unfortunately since I made the changes, I haven't had to much time to follow up by making an enquiry about the WikiProject's issue.
WikiProject NI is a child of WikiProject Ireland and WikiProject UK. If we treated this the same as categories then we only need to have WikiProject NI stated as by default it should link to the two parent WikiProjects. Removing the redundancy would help lower the amount of articles to be classified by the Ireland Wikiproject by having it linked to it;s main primary Wikiproject which is also a child of the Ireland one - if you catch my drift.
Having said that these all belong technically to Wikiproject United Kingdom as after all anything Northern Ireland related or post 1801-pre-1921 Ireland related is United Kingdom related. Yet none of these articles, even the vast majority of NI articles don't link to WikiProject UK because it is assumed that as they are part of WikiProject NI then why link to WikiProject UK. Thus by the fact WP NI is the child of both WP I and WP UK, why do we need add duplicity by adding it also to WP I but not WP UK?
It is a complicated affair, hence why I've made no other changes since. Yet if we have to add WP I to all these NI related articles then we by default have to add WP UK to every single NI article and post-1801 and pre-1921 Ireland article. Complicated mess thanks to the all-Ireland WikiProject (must be the only one of it's kind on Wikipedia not based on an actual country. Is there a Hispaniola WikiProject?). You are pretty much correct in your view of the project hierarchy, and yes it is complicated, but that is the nature of the Ireland beast. However the issue that arises when we don't tag NI articles with the Ireland banner, then those articles are never included in the statistics for Ireland because each project has its own assessment statistics. AFAIK no project included the statistic of its child project and maybe it should. Have a look at the Ireland statistics; any NI article not assessed with the Ireland project banner will not be counted in the island-wide project even though it should be. As I mentioned previously I think the GAA is played on an island wide basis, so they, mostly ones you removed the Ireland banner from, should really be included while some others, perhaps like political articles, have more justification for being excluded. Thoughts! ww2censor (talk) 19:54, 7 September 2013 (UTC)

On that basis we must include the UK WikiProject banner to a heck of a lot of Ireland related articles as on that reasoning, which is valid to a point, it is missing lots of relevant articles that are after all part of UK history from 1801-1921 and for Northern Ireland 1921 onwards. One reasoning of mine was by following the child and parent relationship of projects like that of categories, then we can lower the amount of articles that need checked by the Ireland WikiProject seeing as NI ones will need checked anyways. Maybe they could create a combined statistics table for the two WikiProjects. Mabuska (talk) 12:50, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
