GOCE June 2015 newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors June 2015 News

May drive: Thanks to everyone who participated in last month's backlog-reduction drive. Of the 38 people who signed up, 29 copyedited at least one article, and we got within 50 articles of our all-time low in the backlog. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Coordinator elections: Nominations are open through June 15 for GOCE coordinators, with voting from June 16–30. Self-nominations are welcome and encouraged.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Miniapolis, Jonesey95, Biblioworm and Philg88.

TalkDerry

Hi Mabuska, Help me understand this minefield. It seems like the goal posts are constantly moving. Scolaire, claimed victory 11-4 in an RFC that even he claimed as having 'failed'. Then he refused to answer my question when I highlighted this. How does that make sense. Consensus/Convention agreed back in 2004 is quoted in IMOS and was based on a 2-1 (Derry City Council, Common Name:Derry vs Official Name: Londonderry). Scolaire also claimed it was in line with policy that the neutrality of the WP:Derry was weighted with WP: County Londonerry page. How can County Londonderry even be considered disputed, given that County Derry has no historical basis? How can you change this apparent consensus if Users who oppose dont have to provide a rationale and refuse to engage when you highlight the holes in their argument? The whole thing stinks. TY. Even an Equality impact assessment surveying people who actually live in the city didnt want to change the city name so why is that report ignored?Dubs boy (talk) 15:37, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

And this from someone who asked you to "please refrain from commenting at my talk page in the future." You have to laugh. Scolaire (talk) 18:12, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
A few quotes in that diff I could throw up here but this one will do: "I can no longer entertain you or your inconsistent nature." So why come to me for help to understand a situation? I will point out two things for you though:
1: Wikipedia policy states that users should provide a reason for backing or opposing a proposal. Simply stating "per so-and-so" or simply stating "oppose" or "agree" is not a good enough reason.
2: The Equality Impact Assessment IIRC didn't just survey people who actually lived in the city. I know many non-city inhabitants who submitted their opinion on it including myself.
