Welcome

[edit]

Salam and welcome,

Thank you for your offer.

In order to get you familiar with things, it would be good if you could tell me the following:

1.

On what topics pertaining to Iran do you feel highly or even relatively competent and eager to contribute? Several users have been active in keeping the "current events" articles of Iran going. Some, like User:Shervink and User:Amir85 usually are active in a specific section of Iranian history. Some, like User:Gmotamedi only focus on a specific topic like working on the Mirza Kuchek Khan pages. Some, like User:wikiacc strictly are busy not with any content, but with house-keeping like adding and cleaning up templates, talk pages, etc. Some like User:Jonsafari focus only on language articles.

Some users have been active in more or less all areas depending on the specific needs at the time, like me and User:SouthernComfort.

And some, again like me and SC and some others, have been relatively active in assuming position of guardianship of Iranian articles: there is a constant massive campaign by some users to distort, erase, and change historical and political accuracy on Iranian Wikipedia pages. That is a very important task.

So, what subject areas do you like to be active in? Or better, what subject areas do you not particularly care for at all?

2.

Considering your CS background, are you more interested in contributing to contents, or in maintaining functionality (like what User:wikiacc does alot)?

Take it easy.--Zereshk 06:42, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Iran and disambiguation

[edit]

It's very nice to meet you! I'm partially Iranian, and have always been interested in my heritage. It is by good change that I found myself working on the Persian disambiguation link part! I'm glad to see you are contributing to the project, and hope you continue to do so! -- Natalya 12:56, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Persians

[edit]

The user Aucaman has been vandalizing Persian people, as well as several other Iran-related articles, claiming that "modern Persians are mix of Arabs and Mongols" editing the article, or adding a dispute tag, based on his own personal assumptions and conclusions without any valid source to support such outrageous revisionist theory. If you have an opinion on this topic, please join the Talk:Persian_people, so we can reach a consensus for the removal of the "dispute tag". --ManiF 18:25, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good job!

[edit]

You're doing a great job on cleaning up dab pages. It's a tedious job, but someone's got to do it. I think I've done about 50 or 60 of them, lol, I'm glad to have some company. :) Just showing my appreciation. Cheers. Gflores Talk 06:36, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Persian disambig

[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you troke Persian from Link disambiguiation page. Many thanks for your contribution in this. However there are still lots of pages linking to Persia. Could you please let me know why you took it off from disambig project? Mahanchian 23:32, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi, perhaps I misunderstand your question, but if I am correct I removed all of the links to Persian. However, Persia is not a disambiguation page, and thus there is no need to remove links (and, in any case, this is different than Persian). At the time I did it, there were no mainspace links to Persian, and thus I took it off of the dab page. Am I misunderstanding your question? --Deville (Talk) 21:33, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I meant Persian and not Persia. Anyway I removed most of them. The problem is filtering all user pages and talk pages. Do you know an easy way to do it? Mahanchian 21:48, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
Hi, when I last did it, I believe they were all gone, at least all the ones in the mainspace. Of course, people are adding them all of the time. --Deville (Talk) 03:00, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, also, to answer your question... I don't know any good way to filter it. I just run through the list by eye and skip the ones not in mainspace
You can filter it with the program I told you about. WP:AWB. It's great for dab work. Gflores Talk 07:29, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

dab bot

[edit]

There is a program that might interest you. WP:AWB. You should download it and check it out. Check the page for features and functionality. It's semi-automatic and can go through categories (dab category) and add something to it nearly automatically. I think it's very helpful. Let me or Bluemoose (the creator of the program) know if you have any questions. :) Gflores Talk 22:03, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Odd, it's usually pretty quick. Perhaps you should message User:Bluemoose, the creator of the program. Gflores Talk 08:48, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

TLAdisambig

[edit]

Hi, just noticed your AWB edits; why not just redirect Template:TLADisambig to Template:Disambig? — Matt Crypto 20:54, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

TLAdisambig

[edit]

I just noticed your change to {{TLAdisambig}} which I have now reverted. Aside from other issues, redirects should be written as #REDIRECT [[new page]] (you had omitted the # sign), and the code to comment out code is <!-- comment --> (not <--! as you had written).

Secondly, I'm not sure why you're trying so hard to replace {{TLAdisambig}} with {{disambig}} (I note you're edit history and from the comment above and your attempted redirect, assume this is what you're trying to do). You're edit summary that this is inline with the manual of style I believe is flawed (whilst I know the MoS doesn't expressly mention {{TLAdisambig}} that template has been in use for a long time). I know there has been discussions about removing it (see here) but I didn't think a consensus had been reached.

I feel you should stop this replacement of templates until consensus is determined from other editors (I for one would be against it). UkPaolo/talk 22:49, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages)/Disambiguation subcategories#*LAdisambig cleanup and see that it would appear some consensus has been reached, but note that the page talks about cleaning up by replacing {{TLAdisambig}} with {{3LC}}... Iranian Azerbaijan

[edit]

Hi there,

I just wanted to let you know that user, khoikhoi (MOD) keeps including the very offensive term, "south azerbaijan" on the Iranian Azerbaijan page. We should not let him post this propoganda and false information. That term has no place in an encycolpedia article. It is not relevent to the content. What a few seperatists call that region should not be shown here. If we dont stop this, people will start including the "a#abian gulf" as an alternate name on the Persian gulf page.

Hi Mahanchian. The page above just got tagged and listed at WP: Pages needing translation into English. I'm wondering if you, as a native Farsi speaker, could assist us. Just follow the link and have a look at the page. If the subject is notable and verifiable, you can follow the link to the project page and leave a comment. Thanks very much! -Fsotrain09 21:47, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Requests for mediation/Qanun

[edit]
A request for mediation has been filed with the Mediation Committee that lists you as a party. The Mediation Committee requires that all parties listed in a mediation must be notified of the mediation. Please review the request at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Qanun, and indicate whether you agree or refuse to mediate. If you are unfamiliar with mediation, please refer to Wikipedia:Mediation. There are only seven days for everyone to agree, so please check as soon as possible.
Same condition:
Please read history of these articles and so the articles Ceng , Afghan Rubab.
ZANDWEBT

Thanks for your comment on Zandweb's talk page and for alerting me to it. Tell me: do you know whether this mediation request is being acted on? So far, I've only heard from you in this matter.

Since you speak Farsi, could you translate this message that Zandweb left on my talk page?

Neden bu sayfanin adani degistirdi? Kapacinini bu dafa.

He left it under the heading "Isak Bey", whoever (or whatever) that is.

By the way, my guess that you are Armenian was obviously wrong: I guess not all names that end in "-ian" are Armenian! +ILike2BeAnonymous 19:00, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So, interesting that he left that message in Turkish: to me, that's just another insult, as if he assumes that I'm either Turkish, or at least speak the language, neither of which is true. So what's your take: what's up with this guy? (Assuming he's a guy, that is.) Is he some kind of super-nationalist, Persian supremacist? +ILike2BeAnonymous 19:12, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see the case has been accepted for mediation. So whose job is it to try to get Zandweb to participate in the process? I did leave the mediation template on his discussion page, as instructed. +ILike2BeAnonymous 23:11, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Disambiguation Talk Request

[edit]

This is a form message being sent to all WikiProject Disambiguation participants. I recently left a proposed banner idea on the WikiProject Disambiguation talk page and I would appreciate any input you could provide. Before it can be approved or denied, I would prefer a lot of feedback from multiple participants in the project. So if you have the time please join in the discussion to help improve the WikiProject. Keep up the good work in link repair and thanks for your time. Nehrams2020 21:34, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Two Articles in need of your attention

[edit]

There are two entries at Wikipedia, which have falsely created -- they are Turco-Persian and Turko-Persian Tradition. Both entries are factitious. I have requested the entries to be deleted. My reasons are:

The term Turko-Persian Tradition (or Turco-Persian) does not exists academically and it is a factitious entry! Check the Encyclopaedia Iranica to confirm -- The correct name for that culture is the Persianate culture not the "Turko-Persian". Turkophones (mostly of mixed race and Persianized in culture) only spoke in Turkic dialects and were in the military. That is not enough participation in creating and forming the culture to deserve the name "Turko-Persian Tradition" – This is misinformation. All the elements in that area, which have to do with tradition and culture, were drawn from the Iranian culture (Persian, Kurdish, Azari, Baluchi, Tajik, Luri, Gilaki, Talishi, Mazandarani, etc.), and the Islamic faith, not much Turkic elements (like shamanism, yurts etc.) were incorporated in. That is what makes the name "Turko-Persian" an imaginary one and therefore the entry should be deleted.

Any contributions would greatly appreciated. Bā Sepās Surena 02:26, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

big long quote in Iranian Revolution

[edit]

Sa.vakilian went to some trouble to translate a long quote by khomeini ("a commandment") for the Iranian Revolution article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iranian_revolution#The_Provisional_Revolutionary_Government but it is rather long and may not be following wikipedia form. We created a quotation section at the end that I'm thinking might suit it better. Please weigh in with an opinion at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Iranian_Revolution#Where_to_put_.22Ayatollah_Khomeini.27s_commandment_for_Bazargan.22 (Any other ideas on how to improve Iranian Revolution would be welcome too.) Iranian ISP's

[edit]

Thank you for your note - but I notice some of the articles are already gone, and were deleted only on a single days notice for some reason not made clear urgency was deemed necessary. Some of the ISP's are notable as they are the only ISP based in or available to a given city or town. Due to the speedy nature of the deletions (after a single day, and I have just returned from 10 days vacation) it has not been possible to address the issue within the required 24 hour time frame. The Internet is key to bringing Iran into the global village, enabling communication with and between it's peoples, as well as providing a window to the world for the people of Iran. We need more such articles, not less. Ironically, the swift deletion of such articles without discussion is a reflection of how justice is done today in Iran. --Commking (talk) 10:13, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Previously we had the same discussion for the Rain ISP in Zahedan. The consensus was keep. --Commking (talk) 11:06, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
