Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Mai El-Kinawi OTM. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Michel Shamil Orloff, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Hi, how can I get back the version that was originally there, and maybe improve the verifications; versus this MUCH shorter version of the article, where whole chunks of content has been removed from the page? Mai El-Kinawi OTM (talk) 15:33, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Some of the text of the article was removed because it had no references to verify what was written. Please see WP:Biographies of living persons for more information on this, thanks. Wikishovel (talk) 15:44, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
An entire section of the article was deleted - Early Life - which had numerous verifications and citations to public historical articles and to other wikipedia pages. it was noted as "irrelevant", whereas it isn't. This person is a descendant of the Egyptian Royal Family, and it is important that this is captured in his early life, for historical context. How can I make this happen? Do i need to create the article under a different category or something? Mai El-Kinawi OTM (talk) 15:52, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, a section was removed that talked only about his family, with references that didn't mention the subject of the article. That was partly a problem of WP:BLP, because there was no verification that any of the people mentioned were related to Orloff, and partly a problem of Wikipedia:OFFTOPIC: we need to stick to the subject of the article when we write. Wikishovel (talk) 16:00, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, his Date of Birth was removed. How can i prove that this is his actual date of birth? What kind of verification is needed? Mai El-Kinawi OTM (talk) 16:08, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please see Wikipedia:Reliable sources for more information on this. Wikishovel (talk) 16:11, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

the subject of the article is the person himself - Michel Shamil Orloff; so including his lineage, parents and grandparents is important for the subject. Particularly because of the historical context. How is that categorized as off topic? and how can i write an article about him that captures his lineage? Mai El-Kinawi OTM (talk) 16:04, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You can certainly include a short section with WP:DUE weight about his early life and family, if you can cite reliable sources that mention Orloff himself, to verify the connection.
Are you connected with Mr. Orloff or his family or business, personally or professionally? Wikishovel (talk) 16:07, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
most of the sources mention his mother but not him. that is why we want to document this so that the lineage sourcing continues. it's part of the reason behind creating this page - historical documentation. Mai El-Kinawi OTM (talk) 16:11, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the organization i work with represents him. Mai El-Kinawi OTM (talk) 16:12, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Then yes, you do have a conflict of interest on the topic. Please read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest to learn how to disclose your conflict of interest on your user page, thanks. Wikishovel (talk) 16:14, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, i can do that. would that resolve the issue of all these removals? Mai El-Kinawi OTM (talk) 16:26, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I will move the article to draft, and you can submit the article for review when you think it's ready: please see Wikipedia:COIEDIT for more information on why this is necessary. Wikishovel (talk) 16:35, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How or where can i submit the article for review? i am keen on getting the information out there, and want to get it right. Mai El-Kinawi OTM (talk) 16:39, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Take as long as you need to develop the article, and when you think it's ready for publication, just press the button on the draft that's labelled "Submit the draft for review". Wikishovel (talk) 16:42, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Michel Shamil Orloff moved to draftspace[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to Michel Shamil Orloff. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability and you may have a possible Conflict of Interest. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Wikishovel (talk) 16:36, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
