April 2023[edit]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Hadal (talk) 20:38, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The block is in error. It is misconceived and totally without merit. I had absolutely no intention to breach any Wiki T&C. I have direct and authorised access to data and information to which Wikipedia does not. This data and information proves that articles on Wikipedia are incorrect, incomplete, out of date and mislead the public. It goes without saying that I want to make objective, useful and helpful contributions to Wikipedia but I am new and I have to "learn the ropes". The block in error on my account clearly makes the statement that a brand owners such as Coca Cola or Ferrari have no right to make contribution to Wiki because it is considered "advertising" or "promotion". This borders insanity because only the brand owner has the correct up to date data and information about itself protected by Data Protection Laws worldwide which prevent and prohibit any person from having access to that data and information. Why would Wiki intentionally and deliberate block brand owners such as Coca Cola or Ferrari from correcting articles on itself? But if this is how Wiki operates then I understand. For the record I declare that no one is paying me to write articles on Wiki. Mamiya Optical (talk) 06:09, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

The block is not in error. You may not have been offering the camera for sale or talking it up, but you violated the conflict of interest policy. If you work for the company(as I think), you are a paid editor, you do not have to be specifically paid to make edits(otherwise every paid editor would claim they were not specifically paid to edit). Coca Cola and Ferrari representatives should not be directly editing about their companies, but may make formal edit requests on article talk pages, detailing changes they feel are needed. Wikipedia is only interested in primary source information in certain situations, so no, we do not typically want information from the topic itself. The main purpose of Wikipedia is to summarize what independent reliable sources state about a topic. Please tell us how you will comply with the policies I describe here, as well as any edits you are interested in making as a general contributor, which we will likely want to see before permitting you to make edit requests, as a way of showing your understanding of relevant policies. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 08:34, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please unblock my account. Are you a lawyer? One of my 3 degrees is Law. So I have you at a distinct disadvantage. You are stopping me from making corrections to information about Mamiya and Mamiya 6x7cm cameras. Why? Based on what verified facts?

It goes without saying I understand the Wikipedia T&C and fully intend to comply with policies procedures and protocols. I have not violated any COI. You are making it up in your head. Pure conjecture prejudiced by my poor choice of user name which was unwise but it was intended to convey "position of authority and trust". I own the largest private collection of Mamiya 6x7cm in the UK and possible Europe put together since 1989. I know a thing or two about them. I have elected a more appropriate user name. I am not part of any brand or company and I am not paid by anyone directly or indirectly. I do not have any financial benefit whatsoever directly or indirectly. In 2016 I had a motorcycle accident and became disabled in a wheelchair. I was forced to retire from being a Master Technician (at Verdi Ferrari in the UK) on Ferrari cars made between 1965 to 1989. Now you are going to tell me you and Wikipedia know Ferrari better than me because someone has a web page or published a book? All of which can be faked. Complete joke. My technical notes on Ferrari are copyright of Ferrari SPA. No way in hell you or Wikipedia can have access to them. But I am properly joint copyright owner and can disclose contents to any person I deem fit. I will not be sharing this on Wiki because the said information has very high commercial value. I have read the some of shit people write on Wikipedia about certain Ferraris. Its just irresponsible but there is nothing I can do about it. Mamiya I can fix. Unblock me so I can get on with it.

As jpgordon says below, perhaps the name is your only issue at the moment. But this level of combativeness makes me leery of what might happen should you be able to freely interact with other users. — Daniel Case (talk) 06:03, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The name is better -- and the name alone is what caused the problem. Please consider that Wikipedia is barraged on a constant basis by companies that are attempting to use Wikipedia for what we consider WP:PROMOTION. Most of these are people who simply are unaware of our policies, though many of them are people who have been paid to promote their companies on Wikipedia. The community has made it clear that accounts are for the use of individuals, not companies or their representatives (as far as editing those companies' articles is concerned.) So, if you had simply made the edits you made, without anything that looked like you were writing on behalf of or as part of Mamiya Optical or Photo-Image, you might have been asked for sources for your new material, but otherwise there wouldn't have been a problem. And no, nobody here cares about the knowledge you have in your head except inasmuch inasmuch as you have knowledge of useful reliable sources with which to improve Wikipedia articles. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 01:34, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello
Thank you for the update.
The user name has not not been changed. Why?

The poor choice of username cause an issue so please change my user name to what actually describes me accurately "old School 120" and unblock my account.

That's only part of the problem, and on top of that there's been socking. Drmies (talk) 15:30, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

May 2023[edit]

Wikipedia's technical logs indicate that this user account has been or may be used abusively. It has been blocked indefinitely from editing to prevent abuse.

Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you should review the guide to appealing blocks, and then appeal your block by adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|Your reason here ~~~~}}. Note that anything you post in your unblock request will be public, so you may alternatively use the Unblock Ticket Request System to submit an appeal if it contains information that must be private.

Administrators: Checkusers have access to confidential system logs not accessible by the public or by administrators due to the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy. You must not loosen or remove this block, or issue an IP block exemption, without consulting with a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee. Administrators who undo checkuser blocks without permission from a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee may be summarily desysopped.

I have asked to be unblocked. If you continue to refuse then I want all my data deleted in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR. I will take legal action in High Court to enforce my rights and challenge Wiki on the data which it is using to process and make decisions. Email address and IP address is not a legal ID. I am being subjected to considerable alarm and distress by "administrators" of Wiki. It plain bully boy tactics. Mamiya Optical (talk) 05:49, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You are not required to provide an email address, though if you don't, you cannot recover your password. No one has access to your email address(unless you reply to emails sent via Wikipedia)
As you have an account, your IP is not public. Only certain vetted users called checkusers have access to that information and only in limited circumstances. 331dot (talk) 13:44, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I apologise unreservedly for my enthusiasm to make public information to which I have direct access from the brand owners of Mamiya e.g. trade mark registration, brand revival in the UK. This is a very big deal worldwide because of widespread ownership of Mamiya film cameras. I consider myself an expert on Mamiya cameras and gave myself a poorly chosen name not realising this kind of name is not allowed on Wiki. I have more knowledge, experience and skill than any other Wiki author or contributor because I and factory trained technician of Mamiya from 1986 to 1996. I want to share what I know before I die because I should not die with all the knowledge I have. Mamiya deserves to live and be enjoyed by devoted owners. I think this is sufficient reason to unblock my account and rename it Old School 120. Mamiya Optical (talk) 05:38, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You have made matters worse by socking and making legal threats. While we cannot stop you from using the courts of your country to address your grievances, you may not make legal threats on Wikipedia, nor may you edit if you have a legal action underway. You can pursue your grievances in the courts or on Wikipedia using Wikipedia processes, but not both. You will need to unequivocally withdraw the threats of legal action in order to be unblocked. You will also need to address the socking. 331dot (talk) 13:40, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

But you've just made it much much worse by threatening legal action. WP:NLT is ironclad; we do not tolerate legal threats. You're pretty much doing everything wrong, for the right reasons. Wikipedia might not be the place for you to share your knowledge. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 06:21, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
