August 2011[edit]

Hello Marfilmes. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Arthur Howes, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about following the reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  1. Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  2. Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  3. Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  4. Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Cind.amuse (Cindy) 14:09, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. However, I noticed that your username (Marfilmes) may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it appears to represent Marfilmes, an film production company, on whose behalf you are editing articles. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account to use for editing. Thank you. Cind.amuse (Cindy) 14:13, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Arthur Howes requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because your username, Marfilmes, does not meet our username policy.

Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account

You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:

  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you feel that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first.

Hi, I am a sysop at pt:Wiki. Please, change her username globally, we are asking her to do this at this moment. Thanks. Yanguas (talk) 17:10, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi back at you. I'm a sysop here, but I can't do a global name change. I think you need a steward or something for that. Beeblebrox (talk) 20:23, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Batuque (documentary) for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Batuque (documentary) is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Batuque (documentary) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Dennis Brown (talk) 12:49, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Movies[edit]

Please be careful when creating articles about movies. The articles you have created contain the movie summaries copied from an outside source, perhaps from the films' promotional materials. I am afraid Wikipedia cannot use such material, since it is protected by copyright; you should summarize the films' plot using your own words.

I hold no opinion on the notability of the films themselves, but let me direct you to the notability guidelines. - Mike Rosoft (talk) 17:28, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am the owner of the copyrights of these texts, since it was me who wrote it. I have already sent wikipedia the email donating these rights. About the notability and relevance, it is really hard to find information in these African films, this is why I believe it's important to publish at least the information that is available. thanks. Renee Mar Mar Filmes 17:36, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think it's great that you're adding all these films. I'm not sure how it works to "donate" text to Wikipedia and I hope that can be worked out. But I also wanted to suggest you do try and add an external reliable source or two to these articles, when you have a chance, to help establish notability. As was shown at the deletion discussion for Batuque (documentary), there are sources out there. And btw such sources don't have to be in English. thanks and keep up the great work! Shawn in Montreal (talk) 15:35, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tip Shawn in Montreal. I was not sure that I could use French and Portuguese sources. I have put it in some articles and I will try to add some more to the ones I have already made. I have also asked some people I know that are studying these directors, namely Moustapha Alassane, to add on. But I am still waiting them to do it... Thanks again. Renee Mar Mar Filmes 20:19, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • My pleasure. As a Montrealer, I add French-language sources all the time. It's always been permitted; now, in the days of Google Translate, it's less of an issue than ever. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 21:41, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks to you both. Schmidt, I will see how to do it, because as you must have realized ... I am new at this! Thanks for your support. Renee Mar (talk) 01:59, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Thank your for your contributions to Wikipedia :). I am concerned that your article ‎Amílcar Cabral (documentary) is a copyright violation of this page, so I have proposed that it be deleted. Let me know if I am in error. Thanks again! --Cerebellum (talk) 23:34, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Cerebellum, the text of that page was copied from my website http://www.marfilmes.com/en/africadocs/amilcar+cabral.htm. I have sent wikipedia an email, the 15th February making the copyright declaration of consent, but I have received no reply so far. Renee Mar (talk) 10:14, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I see, thanks for the explanation! I'll leave the copyright notice on the article for now because I am not sure what the protocol is for these types of situations, but I'm sure that whoever reviews it will straighten things out. Sorry for the inconvenience, and let me know if there is anything I can do to help out! --Cerebellum (talk) 17:03, 25 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
