Flash crash[edit]

Hi MarketsGuy, thanks for taking the flash crash article in hand. It certainly needs help! Thought I'd drop in with a couple of general tips. Since wikipedia is an encyclopedia, we generally rely more on secondary sources rather than primary sources (see WP:RS for a description). Thus, we would rather use Tabb Forum, Bloomberg, WSJ, NYT articles that discuss the report than use the report itself. Thought I'd let you know. Regards. --RegentsPark (talk) 20:17, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I see the point, but isn't the SEC's report a secondary source on what happened in the Flash Crash? What I mean is, I'm not offering my own view of events, or presenting data analysis of it, I'm just quoting from the report in the same sense in which I might quote from an article on Tabb Forum. See what I mean, or do I not get it? I can also assemble some news reports on the report as further documentation. Thanks for your help! MarketsGuy (talk) 21:54, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Possible vandalism on High-Frequency Trading[edit]

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted or removed. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Content you added (which also seemed not to be NPOV) was either not cited, or not cited properly and was removed. Some of these edits and image placements could be seen as disruptive or vandalism. Please cite the articles directly, and try to maintain a NPOV. Financestudent (talk) 23:28, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Financestudent deleted the references when he edited the page, as the revision history for the relevant entry ("high-frequency trading") clearly shows. He then accused me of vandalism. Remarkable. MarketsGuy (talk) 16:26, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

:::Not only is this untrue but I explained thoroughly that you posted refs that were empty on that page as your basis of the massive content modifications. I watch over 800 pages on wikipedia and revert vandalism and commentary from articles and that is what your edits appeared to be on that article. It had nothing to do with you, or the article, or it's content, but content integrity. I will be looking into mediation if these personal attacks continue. Financestudent (talk) 16:59, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Look at the revision history. At 23:03 on 30 October 2010 you deleted a paragraph containing the anchor references for subsequent footnotes to text you found objectionable. It's there in black and white. By all means let's get a mediator. MarketsGuy (talk) 17:15, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
My mistake, I have implemented the delete tags to fully retract my statements. Financestudent (talk) 18:16, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just thought I'd stop by and say you're doing a great job on the article. I've been wanting to work on it for a while but have been tied up with RL stuff and it's good to see that the article is not languishing! --RegentsPark (talk) 16:36, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks but I'm getting the beans kicked out of me by someone who deletes my footnotes and then says I didn't footnote. Just the hurly-burly of the forum, I imagine.MarketsGuy (talk) 16:39, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and thanks very much for the note on secondary sources. I've found gobs and then noticed that my detractors love using primary sources, giving me high ground for any disputes!MarketsGuy (talk) 16:42, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I saw the exchange above. Consider it a part of the process, a thick skin is helpful, but drop a note on my talk page if it goes out of control. No worries about the primary sources. The article reads fine and we have plenty of time to rework it to replace primary sources with secondary ones. Never a hurry on wikipedia. --RegentsPark (talk) 16:44, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A friendly reminder[edit]

Please read the Wikipedia policy on attempted outings: WP:OUTING (PaulTheOctopus (talk) 16:53, 17 July 2011 (UTC)) You are quite right on this point and my apologies. MarketsGuy (talk) 17:10, 17 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
