Happy Holidays
From Stave one of Dickens A Christmas Carol

Old Marley was as dead as a door-nail. Mind! I don’t mean to say that I know, of my own knowledge, what there is particularly dead about a door-nail. I might have been inclined, myself, to regard a coffin-nail as the deadest piece of ironmongery in the trade. But the wisdom of our ancestors is in the simile; and my unhallowed hands shall not disturb it, or the Country’s done for. You will therefore permit me to repeat, emphatically, that Marley was as dead as a door-nail.

So you see even Charles was looking for a reliable source :-) Thank you for your contributions to the 'pedia. ~ ~~~~

Wonderful performance of one of my favorite carols Martinevans123. This haunting version of Balulalow is another. You might enjoy this treat from Vienna. Watch for the ever changing Placido. I know computers are a marvel but the way this so seamlessly moves between the performances just amazes me. Wassail cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 22:26, 23 December 2017 (UTC)

Christmas

Thank you. One of my more interesting memories is of playing a female angel in a school Nativity play. The girl cast was sick and they really needed me. Paul Benjamin Austin (talk) 23:32, 23 December 2017 (UTC)

Season's greetings

A Shaker Christmas wish
Give good gifts, one to another
Peace, joy and comfort gladly bestow
Harbor no ill 'gainst sister or brother
Smooth life's journey as you onward go.
Broad as the sunshine, free as the showers.
So shed an influence blessing to prove;
Give for the noblest of efforts your pow'rs;
Blest and be blest, is the law of love.

Nicely chosen quote. :-) Best wishes to you, and happy editing in 2018 and beyond! --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:21, 25 December 2017 (UTC)

Not long now

Only 50 minutes before they start broadcasting. Is that the same for you? ‑ ‑ Gareth Griffith‑Jones The Welsh Buzzard ‑ ‑ 16:40, 25 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi Gareth. It does not air here until 7 pm tonight. I always have to be careful with my watchlist in the intervening time. I hope you enjoy it! MarnetteD|Talk 18:02, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
"Enjoy" is not the word; entranced – absorbed – captivated – I loved every second of it. Still thrilled. ‑ ‑ Gareth Griffith‑Jones The Welsh Buzzard ‑ ‑ 21:41, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
Yippee G. The next four hours will be an excruciating wait :-P MarnetteD|Talk 21:44, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
One thing I forgot to tell you G. A visit from the denizens of Nonnatus House is also on our TV schedule tonight. It is on PBS so no annoying commercial breaks. This is the third year in a row that we get it on the same day as you. A nice evening ahead. MarnetteD|Talk 21:59, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
I am visiting my mother. There were 2 TV progs on today which she wouldn't allow. Guess which ones. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 00:30, 26 December 2017 (UTC)
Argh Redrose64!! OTOH it means that you have a treat waiting when you do get to see them. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 00:33, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

The episode was extraordinary Gareth and I loved every moment as well. Moffat gives long time devotees something special in the story to acknowledge the lore of the show. I did lasy in extra tissue this year and DW and CtW made sure I would use them. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 15:31, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

The Signalman

This Christmas, I watched and thoroughly enjoyed, the marvellous (and sadly late) Denholm Elliott twice.
Not only in A Child's Christmas in Wales, but also the BBC Television film, The Signalman. Originally broadcast on 22 December 1976, it is adapted by Andrew Davies who can do no wrong in my eyes. Happy Boxing Day! ‑ ‑ Gareth Griffith‑Jones The Welsh Buzzard ‑ ‑ 13:15, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

That is wonderful Gareth. I have TS on DVD in a box set of Dickens adaptations and it truly is excellent. I've sad it before and will again, no doubt, Elliott is underrated and underappreciated. Enjoy the rest of 2017. MarnetteD|Talk 15:26, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

Thank you so much

Merry belated Christmas and a season of health and joy to you and yours. Have a happy and safe new year and much continued 'Wikipedia-ing' in the new year.Koplimek (talk) 18:04, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

Happy New Year

Happy New Year!

Best wishes for 2018. —Donner60 (talk) 07:04, 31 December 2017 (UTC)

I was glad to get your holiday greeting. I have been running a little behind for a few weeks. I was in the hospital for three nights for tests, which turned out ok. The timing was unfortunate nonetheless. For the past few days I have been getting some end of the year edits. I will still be editing sporadically for a few months, though I suppose my total monthly edits should be about the same as they have been for most of this year. I continue to resolve to do more content creation and editing but that may be more likely in a few months. I hope you have had a good holiday period. Best wishes. Donner60 (talk) 07:04, 31 December 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for your card and the update Donner60. My very best wishes to you as well. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 17:28, 31 December 2017 (UTC)

A bottle of Imperial Tokay for you!

To help ring in the New Year! Softlavender (talk) 07:06, 31 December 2017 (UTC)

MMMMMM I can't wait to open it Softlavender!!! To my tpw's this wine is a major part of the plot of the film Dean Spanley. S recommended it and I am glad that she did. It is a very special film and one of the best I've seen this (or any) year. Well worth seeing. Thanks again S. MarnetteD|Talk 17:33, 31 December 2017 (UTC)
To be honest, since Imperial Tokay vintages (I added that section to that article, yay me) are all pre-1919, this bottle is actually an "alt-" or faux Imperial LOL. ;-) I also found out that a bottle of real Imperial Tokay will run you circa $3,500 in today's money (a bottle sold for £2,000 at Christie's in 2008), so maybe this is just as well. :) Softlavender (talk) 17:50, 31 December 2017 (UTC)

Big Ben

Ha, ha! I liked that. Thanks Michael and a Happy New Year! The tower hosting Big Ben is now officially called Elizabeth Tower, renamed to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II in 2012. It looks a lot better in your greeting than it does in real life; it is covered in scaffolding from top to base. All the best, ‑ ‑ Gareth Griffith‑Jones The Welsh Buzzard ‑ ‑ 16:26, 31 December 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for your message and the info Gareth. I am glad you enjoyed it. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 17:34, 31 December 2017 (UTC)
