Welcome to Wikipedia!

[edit]

I was actually reading about the kongsi republics on Wikipedia just a few days ago and noticed the lack of much material on them, so when I noticed your contribution I was interested. I have to say, you are doing a very good job so far compared to most newcomers and on a topic that definitely needs attention. Just some advice; I noticed you created a different account for Wikimedia Commons (where you uploaded some extremely well made maps), but actually you can just log in to commons using the same account as you use on Wikipedia. Also, you used a lot of primary sources for your work, which is fine, but note that secondary sources are preferred. Lastly, I would suggest looking into DYK where your work (which as I said before is very impressive) can be featured on the main page. Zoozaz1 talk 15:49, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Austro-Hungarian concession of Tianjin

Hi thanks very much for creating thus, which I’m just reviewing. Can you tell me if it is based in part on the Chinese or Italian wiki articles? If so I need to add a template to ensure copyright attribution. Thanks Mccapra (talk) 05:43, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hey thanks! I used both wiki articles interchangeably. Theeelman (talk) 15:36, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Great, thanks. You’ll see I’ve added translation templates to the article talk page. Any time you base an en.wiki article on another wiki can you please add that so we have the proper attribution for copyright purposes. All the best Mccapra (talk) 15:42, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia articles needing maps

[edit]

I saw the note on your userpage about articles that require maps; Wikipedia actually has a category for requested maps by country and a small category on former country articles requiring a map that you might like to take a look at. Zoozaz1 talk 20:46, 24 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Santiaogou Republic

[edit]

On 16 July 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Santiaogou Republic, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Chinese-descended mining federations in Indonesia, like the Santiaogou Federation, fought bitter battles with the Dutch to preserve their democratic forms of government in the early 19th century? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Santiaogou Republic. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Santiaogou Republic), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Presiding Governor of Ezo moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Presiding Governor of Ezo, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hi @Onel5969,
While I do see your removal of several of my articles having fair precedent, I'd have to offer my stance on this. Many of the obscure topics I do are directly translated from their Chinese and Japanese articles, both of which can be very scant in their citations (many of the Chinese articles I translate from come from Baidu which is worse cite-wise). Should this happen, I try to retrace their sources in good faith, though I'm not going to sift through dozens of pages from keywords for hours as this is ultimately a hobby. The articles you've sent back into the draftspace are ones I either have trouble finding the real sources for, or ones that need me to have access to higher academic sources which I don't have the credentials or funds for.
Additionally, while cruising on lesser viewed parts of Wikipedia for research, I similarly notice that there are quite a lot of articles lacking sources, if any, but aren't taken down by the moderators (with similar niche topics like Mongol tribes and such). It seems the only reason these are "allowed" to stay is because they're older than my articles. Objectively, it seems quite unfair.
I'd imagine this would be responded with how Wikipedia is always strict with its independent and reliable credibility stance and whatnot, and I get that. These articles will likely stay in the draftspace as my life gets busier, and I don't expect this to lead to any reversal of the article's status either. It is simply rather tiring to see articles I've made in hopes of expanding the English academia be removed though I genuinesly don't see any fault with myself for the matter.
Thanks
