Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Martinhyou, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few links to pages you might find helpful:

Please remember to sign your messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Neelix (talk) 18:28, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the links! I'll make sure to look through and ask for any help if needed. Martinhyou (talk) 18:30, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I see we're also supposed to have a conversation on your talk page. I hope I'm doing this correctly :D If not I suppose I can just change it later. Rmiller587 (talk) 01:20, 14 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think you can edit this or make a "New Section." Whatever works! Martinhyou (talk) 16:34, 14 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello :)

[edit]

I think we're supposed to create new sections for different conversations instead of editing the same one. Kind of like creating threads in a forum...I think. Rmiller587 (talk) 00:14, 19 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Just saw your previous message. I promise I'll get better at this Wikipedia stuff. Rmiller587 (talk) 00:15, 19 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

As long as we can understand each other. I don't care how we communicate! Martinhyou (talk) 16:40, 19 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Article

[edit]

Have you had a look at the article list yet? I think I like the Dicer one best. This is early of course but just curious what you think. Rmiller587 (talk) 22:12, 24 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah! That sounds like a good one. Do you want to edit the article list on the main page and claim it as ours then? I quick skimmed some articles about dicers and I guess we can go into the background and then expand upon different research done with it and the scientific implications. I see papers on roundworm, mice, and flies (drosophila) so we can do something like that as a first train of thought possibly? What do you think? Martinhyou (talk) 00:19, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I can't find any edit buttons on the main course page. Are you able to edit it? I'm wondering if Dr. Ogg needs to edit it for us. Or maybe I'm just experiencing "user error" :) I like your ideas. I was initially interested it because the knockout of the dicer gene is embryonically lethal. It's also necessary for stem cell viability. Those are just my initial interests without having read more than abstracts. I think we should dig through all the NCBI databases and link to generic information like chromosome position and maybe any microarray or sequencing data. Rmiller587 (talk) 02:40, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Cool! Yeah we'll dig more through the stuff after I finish the homework due today... I can't find the edit button either. I just wrote on the talk page for the main page and asked if anyone else was interested in the topic because we are. Hopefully everyone is okay with it. Martinhyou (talk) 17:17, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Seems like we're supposed to pick two articles (for the assignment due today). For the sake of picking one, I would be alright with the exogenous DNA article. We're also supposed to link articles here so I'll find some and link here. Rmiller587 (talk) 23:25, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

We're supposed to do it on the group page. Scroll down on the main Mole Bio page and you'll find it. I created it and made a template for myself already on it. I'm pretty sure we can do any two topics but we can probably both do Dicer for one of the evaluations just so we get a head start on it. Martinhyou (talk) 23:53, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I see it. I'm editing it now. Do you know what happens if we're both simultaneously editing and submit changes? Do you have Skype? That might be useful to get in touch with each other quickly as opposed to leaving messages here.Rmiller587 (talk) 01:37, 26 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah what's your username? Martinhyou (talk) 03:04, 26 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Flavoredsnacks Rmiller587 (talk) 18:05, 26 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry been a bit busy this past week. I'll add you soon on Skype. We need to write a 200-300 word summary of our justification for the topic. We write it together, right? Or is it separate.

Hello

[edit]

Hi Martin,

I am one of your online ambassadors. I am around to help you out, You can contact me by email or on my talk page. Since I'm in Australia my timezone is quite different to yours. I have no special knowledge of molecular biology, but I am hoping that you can write so that I can understand it! If you both try to edit a page at the same time, the first to save wins, and the second gets an edit conflict error. Best to avoid this, and only edit after the other has saved. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:24, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Graeme! We will try our best to make sure you can understand the article. Martinhyou (talk) 17:32, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:In-depth Crystal Structure of Dicer.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:In-depth Crystal Structure of Dicer.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 09:36, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. The article that it comes from says it is all from Creative Commons. Is that not enough to fulfill the criteria? 99.52.101.231 (talk) 15:15, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Dicer, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Cell and Nucleus (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

A bowl of strawberries for you!
