June 2013[edit]

Information icon Hello. Your recent edit to List of Berklee College of Music alumni appears to have added the name of a non-notable entity to a list that normally includes only notable entries. In general, a person or organization added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists. If you wish to create such an article, please first confirm that the subject qualifies for a separate, stand-alone article according to Wikipedia's notability guideline. Thank you. Re: June 2013[edit]

My apologies, I had created a page, but it was deleted. I will wait until I get it approved to add to the alumni list, thank you.

Contesting Deletion[edit]

NawlinWiki,

You wrote earlier that my article for Arthur Johnson (Music Video Director) did not fall under the criteria for WP:MUSIC or WP:BIO. However, as mentioned on the WP:MUSIC page under "Criteria for musicians and ensembles 1." (Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent from the musician or ensemble itself.[note 1] This criterion includes published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, books, magazine articles, online versions of print media, and television documentaries[note 2])

Arthur has had published work on Pepsi.com, Billboard.com, and won a national film awards in 2012 as well as participated in national film festivals in 2013 for his music videos. This should make him notable under this guideline listed.

Please inform me of what else could be altered.

  • I don't think you're understanding our guidelines. "Published" does not mean that Mr. Johnson sold a piece of music or video to Pepsi for use. "Published" means that a reliable independent source, such as a newspaper or magazine, wrote an article about Mr. Johnson. See WP:V. Also, an award from a youth festival is not a "national award" that would qualify him as notable per WP:BIO. Finally, it appears that you are writing about yourself, which is discouraged, see WP:AUTO. Wikipedia is not to be used to help aspiring musicians promote their careers. Mastermind989: I moved the article as you had asked on IRC, but I had not realized it was a recreation of a previously deleted article. The deleted Arthur Johnson (Music Video Director) and the current Arthur Johnson (music video director) are substantially identical. If you want the article to remain on Wikipedia, you need to add good references (such as magazine or newspaper articles in which his career is discussed in depth) or further evidence of awards to go with the one I see there now. Otherwise the article will be deleted again, one way or another. See the links you were referred to before for the criteria for notability for a musician (WP:MUSIC) and a biography in general (WP:BIO). I've dropped a note to NawlinWiki, who deleted the earlier version, asking them what they want to do, but my advice to you is to find more references you can add.
