Non-free image use[edit]

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. We always appreciate when users upload new images. However, it appears that one or more of the images you have recently uploaded or added to a page, specifically User:Matishka/sandbox, may fail our non-free image policy. Most often, this involves editors uploading or using a copyrighted image of a living person. For other possible reasons, please read up on our Non-free image criteria. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:31, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

As I stated in my response to your post at User talk:Marchjuly#You may be interested., non-free content may only be used in the article namespace per WP:NFCC#9. File:NALogo.svg and File:NALogoSunburst.svg are licensed as {{non-free logo}} which means that they cannot be displayed on your user page or any of its subpages as explained in WP:UP#Non-free files. There are no exceptions to this Wikipedia policy, so please do not re-add those two files to byour sandbox again. It's OK to make a mistake and non-free image use can be tricky even for experienced editors. However, repeating the same mistake even after being advised not to do so is eventually going to lead to an adminstrator being asked to get involved. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:39, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Let's try this![edit]

Question for administrator[edit]

<Hallo, Wikipedians. First of all, I would like to say "Great Job". Second: "Great Job". Not so long time ago I had conversation with two of Your admins about using Narcotics Anonymous logos in my article about NA in Latvian. They pointed that translation cannot be verified (because one was ENG speeking) and second admin from Japan pointed that there are actually rule WP:UP#Non-free files. Fine. I want to use those NA logos, that are registered as non-free, but not confident to use or try to mark them under terms of Fair Use or use Rational. Would You like to have partner in Latvija (Latvia)? >

You can uncomment Marchjuly's edits after the article is published to the mainspace of lv-wp (Latvian Wikipedia). Until then, please leave them alone. Happy editing! Rotideypoc41352 (talk) 20:35, 20 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Well fine. Then I can start translation of Wikipedia rulles to Latvian from somewhere starting in about 1 July this Year.

@Matishka: I am not an administrator and where I am from has nothing to do with you not being able to use non-free content in your user sandbox. Also, if you are working on an article for Latvian Wikipedia, then the best place to do that would probably be on Latvian Wikipedia. If you want to translate an English Wikipedia article into Latvian, please take a look at the information found at Wikipedia:Translate us. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:21, 21 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Rotideypoc41352: Thank you for the ping, but I'm not sure what publishing the draft on Latvian Wikipedia as to do with Wikipedia's non-free content use policy. File:NALogoSunburst.svg and File:NALogo.svg were uploaded locally to English Wikipedia, and I don't believe that they can be wikilinked to from an article on Latvian Wikipedia to display as files. If they were Commons' files, then for sure that could be done with no problem. Latvian Wikipedia, however, may have its own non-free content use policy and the files may have to be re-uploaded there in order to be properly used. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:21, 21 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I can suggest to change icons on page where are WP:5Pillars in Latvian. Maybe I even can change them.. ENG version is better.

Matishka (talk) 20:26, 21 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You almost certainly can, but you'd need to ask about this on the Latvian Wikipedia - admins here won't be able to assist you. Yunshui  09:18, 22 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
