Hullo

Hey, I left you a note of Demiurge1000's talk page but wanted to drop another one here :)

Firstly; is forensics you speciality/interest? If it is that is awesome... the topic of forensics is, in general, one of those that is pretty untamed at the moment. I've been plugging away at the digital forensics side of things, but the rest is out of my ball park. It'd be great to see some new blood in the area.

Secondly; I see you put your email address on your talk page - no issues with that, but for spam and privacy reasons you might want to remove it (and I can delete the history to hide it for you if need be). There is an option to enable an "email this user" link and specify an email address in the "My Preferences" screen. That lets people send you mail via the Wiki interface... but hides the actual address from spam bots and other nasties.

Fiber analysis looks like the makings of a decent article. :) --Errant (chat!) 21:26, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the comments on my articles. And yes I would like it if you could remove the revisions that contained my email address. I originally used it on Wikia but its become more of a personal one that a wiki one. Thanks and cheers. mauchoeagle 21:31, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
You would usually get "auto confirmed" after 10 edits and 4 days, but I don't see a reason not to you grant you the privilege a little early. Don't do anything crazy ;) BTW if you're planning to upload images take a look at WP:IMAGES, particularly the part about sources and licenses. Drop me a note if you need a hand. --Errant (chat!) 08:12, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

You asked for comments, so I hope you don't mind constructive feedback :-)

  • Don't worry about the first part - the WP:LEDE - until you've written the rest. The lede has to be a summary of the whole thing - and can't contain anything that isn't in the body. So, it's best done last.
So, the part you have written about 'law' for example, probably belongs in a == Law == section.
  • Don't use bold (except for the name at the start) - so remove it from e.g. "Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)"
  • Be careful about vague terms, which can inadvertantly introduce a non-neutral viewpoint. For example, "most commonly used by law enforcement agencies" - we could probably remove 'most commonly' - and just state the neutral fact that it is used by them. Whether it is most commonly used by them...whilst probably true...it is, really, opinion.

Reviewer permission

Hello David, Could you please review my request for the reviewer permission. It should be right here. Thanks and cheers. mauchoeagle 23:41, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi! This isn't an area in which I'm active or knowledgeable. Is there a particular reason why you've brought this request to my attention? —David Levy 23:52, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:North-kolola-court071109.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:North-kolola-court071109.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 06:01, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

Contacting crats Re: RFAs

Hi there. I noticed you contacted a number of crats to close an RFA that is pending closure. While you likely had good intentions doing so, you should know that the target closing date for RFAs is only a minimum time the RFA should be left open - not a fixed time after which the RFA has to be closed. A crat will take care of it when they are able to do it and contacting them separately will most likely fail to hasten this process. In the worst case, they might become annoyed by such requests. Regards SoWhy 16:40, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

Advice

Just some friendly advice — from many of your recent edits, you seem to be, how shall I say, enthusiastic about the idea of user permissions. Contacting bureaucrats about RfA closure so soon was entirely unnecessary, and while probably harmless, could be construed as trying to tell them how to do their jobs. Additionally, you didn't really have to "support" at Wikipedia talk:Edit filter#Request permission for Reaper Eternal. (Although I see now you were also the one who initially asked the question; this makes it slightly more reasonable.) The existing filter managers know enough about regex to judge the candidate's description for themselves. I don't intend by any means to discourage your participation on Wikipedia: you seem a bit of a WikiWolfcub, and your enthusiasm benefits the project. But I advise you to back down on permissions related discussions for a while. As a relatively new editor, you really shouldn't be worrying about these yet. Permissions convey very little real authority on Wikipedia; a history of constructive participation will serve you far better in the long run. For the revert of my user page. Looks like a carry over from a wave of IP attacks at Talk:Anilingus (not the article, because that's protected!). They keep trying, but they get nowhere...  Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:49, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Picture

Now moved. Couple of tips -

  1. . add a : before File stops the image showing File:LAs du Fallafel.jpg
  2. . I've added an information template (see Template:Information on what to add ) - then just fill in the fields. When done correctly - there's less chance of misunderstanding and it won't get deleted.

Clerks RfC

Isn't this a little premature? I thought the task force was still working out which proposals to offer... you seem to have short-circuited that process. 28bytes (talk) 00:40, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Dont mean to short circuit I just am tired of the load of crap I hear about initiating the clerks idea immediately and just wanted sort it out. mauchoeagle 00:42, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
I'm probably the biggest champion of this proposal you'll find, but we still have some minor details to work out. Would you mind withdrawing the RfC for a little longer? Trust me, I'm totally anxious to move forward with this but I would like to make sure everything's perfect before putting it to the community. Swarm X 00:46, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
MauchoEagle, you didn't even explain on the RfC page what the proposal is. Seems like you would have wanted the task force to help draft that RfC instead of doing it unilaterally. I agree with Swarm, you should probably withdraw this until it can be done properly. 28bytes (talk) 00:47, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
I appreciate your enthusiasm but there is a project and a task force that has been formed with a lot of hard work by some experienced Wikipedians. An RfC at this stage on any item of the suggewstions will set the project back at least 12 months, and cause withdrawal from the task force, and possible retirement from Wikipedia of task force membersif not indefinitely. Please withdaw this RfC immediately. Thanks. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 01:18, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
I thought you would have noticed the redlink. I have already withdrawn. mauchoeagle 01:19, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
I just woke up and switched my computer on - the first thing I saw was the 'You've got new messages' banner. Thank you for withdrawing this RfC already and please remove any links to it. The project and it elements are still very much at the conceptual development stage, and you are most welcome to join the task force, and collaborate with the others to help move the project along. If you do not favour the principle of reform, that's fine too, you will be able to voice your disapproval when the proposals are releaed by the task force for debate by the broader community. Speedy deletion declined: Dohwa

Hello MauchoEagle, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Dohwa, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The article makes a credible assertion of importance or significance, sufficient to pass A7. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. (talk) 07:37, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

I've reverted your edit to this set index page. It works in a similar way to a dab page, and therefore should not have many incoming links. It doesn't need any more outgoing links, unless new articles are created or more ships with this name become known. For more information about set index articles for ships, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Ships/Guidelines#Index pages. Mjroots (talk) 16:44, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Articles for creation/Capacity Theory

Hi MauchoEagle; I noticed you're having to clean up after me on this article, which I tried to get right for this chappie. Can you teach me where I didn't get it right, please? I know I didn;'t actually turn the refs into proper citations (template type) - I thought I could leave that for the creator to do - is that all that was left? Or did I miss something else too? (I set up the refs to be Harvard-style so that as and when the author got around to doing 'proper format citation-wossnames', they would work OK with the ref=Harv line in them.) My aim was to get his article OK before his deadline .... but I'd like to learn more about what else I should have done, lol! Cheers, Pesky (talk) 17:31, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Well, the thing that stood out to me the most was the overview section. I thought that should have been moved to the top of the page so it could be the lead section; see WP:MOS (lead) and references that are books should always be bulleted so that is what I did. I have some further cleanup before I accept the article which will probably not be today. mauchoeagle 17:35, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
OK, I was brain-dead and forgot I could just check the diffs ...... lol! Pesky (talk) 17:36, 25 April 2011 (UTC)...Is there anything more I can do to help (without knowing anything about the subject)? Pesky (talk) 17:37, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
Well that external links section has got to go or there has to be an external link, not a link to example.com. mauchoeagle 17:39, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
OK, I'll fix that, Pesky (talk) 17:45, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Done :o) Pesky (talk) 17:47, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Do you think anything else needs to be done to it
I'm not sure that my brain is up to making that decision yet, lol! I did this as a break in the middle of a GA review on something else, which I was getting blunt on. I think it probably could go live now; probably not perfect (but what is?), but I would say probably acceptable. What do you think? Pesky (talk) 18:00, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

P.S. Jeeze, I actually just said 'probably' three times in one sentence .....lol! Pesky (talk) 18:02, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Lol is wright, I was wondering about that...grammar Pesky, Any way I am sending it into the mainspace so that the cats can "have at it" :D. mauchoeagle 18:04, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

I think that's the right decision :o) Pesky (talk) 18:05, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
