Need help[edit]

Can i add google books as a reference to a person's biography page?

It depends. Not all books in google books count as reliable sources. The question is whether or not the book was published by a reliable publishing house. Since it's possible for anyone to publish a book just by paying for it, we need to look at the book. Also, it depends on the nature of the book and the information you want to add. For example, if the book is all one author's opinions, we could only add that as an opinion about the living person, and then only if the viewpoint was warranted.
So, that's a big long way of saying "it depends." If there is a specific book, biography, and piece of information you want to add, you can post that here or on the article's talk page, and then it can be evaluated. Qwyrxian (talk) 09:59, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I should clarify, too, that if its a semi-protected page that you want to edit, for now, you'll need to keep using the edit request template that you used on Neha Sharma. Qwyrxian (talk) 10:00, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits[edit]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. Problems with upload of File:Bihae.Seal.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Bihae.Seal.png. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the information to the image's description. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 15:06, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Mahabodhi_temple_bodhgaya.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Mahabodhi_temple_bodhgaya.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 07:24, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Patna[edit]

I see you have just removed 3 x deadlinks. Does the Indian government (or that of Bihar) block access to its sites from outside India? They're dead here in the UK & I have been told that they are dead in the USA also. - Sitush (talk) 19:03, 25 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'd still appreciate a response to the above. In the meantime, please will you be careful with your edits to the article. You have just made a completely incorrect statement which did not even match the source you provided, and you have removed a tag without resolving the issue raised. Thanks. - Sitush (talk) 08:47, 26 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I've only just spotted your note on my talkpage - it was sort of buried up in some old stuff & got lost among newer activity also. Sorry about that. I realise that you can see the government pages but I find it odd that they are not visible elsewhere in the world. I know India block some sites but that is blocking of the Indian population seeing "outside" stuff, not the other way round. Anyway, I'm trying to find a way round the problem by using archived copies of the pages - although I do not dispute what you have attributed etc to those sites, it is not an ideal situation when most of the world cannot verify it. After all, verification is one of the pillars of Wikipedia. I stress, this is not your fault etc.
Sockpuppetting is when someone uses multiple accounts to perform edits, make comments etc. By using several accounts they can, for example, make it appear as if there is a consensus for a certain point of view when in fact there either is not or the consensus is actually different from the view that they wish to see. It can get very nasty. In the specific case you refer to, the person was deemed to have used multiple accounts to revert various edits which arguably should have been allowed to stand - s/he made it appear as if there were quite a few people in agreement about a certain thing when in fact there were not.
A very small number of people have the ability to perform investigations in the event that there appears to be the possibility of someone sockpuppeting, so you file a report and they check it out with tools that are not available to the rest of us. I didn't file the report in this particular instance. You can see the investigation at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Boolyme/Archive. I have no idea where the user is based.
There is an article about it at WP:Sockpuppet. - Sitush (talk) 18:38, 26 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mr Mohit, who gave you the inherent right to affirm absolute dictatorship over the contents related to Bihar state on Wikipedia? Anything and everything that suits you becomes a 'genuine' information and updation of information seems 'vandalism' to you even when they are backed by authentic sources and reliable citations. Why such obnoxious attitude?? Your intellectual contributions are extremely benefitting for wikipedia but this does not guarantee your authoritarian control over the structure of the articles and pages. Also, you are among those millions of volunteers who are tirelessly working to make wikipedia maintain and strengthen its knowledge hub;but this does not imply that you possess any special or specific discretion!!make sure you adhere to laid policies and instead of doing a unilateral edit over a variety of content;validate your opinion through sound vision and nor mere astonishing whims and fancies. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.245.76.39 (talk) 06:52, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Disambiguation link notification for December 24[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Ishan Kishan, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page BCCI. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Disambiguation link notification for April 11[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Shreyasi Singh, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Gold Coast (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
