La Lomita Hauntings

[edit]

La Lomita Historical District has a rich history of events; which survived by word of mouth and writings. One such events is La Lomita Hauntings. (need to find date for this part) La lomita was built as a Fort to protect the Texas boarder from Mexican attacks from Santa Anna. It was reported to have survived a small battle in which a little over 60 people were killed and buried in a cemetry about 1 mile away(need citation for this). The fort being *at that time* in the middle of no where, was left alone for the rest of the Mexican American War. After the breif battle soilders stationed their started reporting strange happenings but they were ignored. a couple of years later, the fort was abandoned and then later made into a convent for Priest and Nuns. It was reported that these priest had relationships with the nuns which resulted in pregnancy. the priest and nuns being of holy orgins had to hide such information from leaking out so they would kill the children when they were born and buried them. they started building catacombs to bury the children which if travled under lead straight to the cemetary. Once the convent was discontinued (about 70 years ago) the catacombs were closed off *yet still accessable* it became a mental (50 years ago) institution for the remainder of the buildings life. the people that resided there would talk to them selvs and noone would pay much mind to it because of their conditons. it wasnt untill the acctual workers started hearing voices or seeing strange and ghostly objects that were unexplainable, that the buildings hauntings and history started comming to light. there would be reports of smells of decomposing flesh coming from the floor for no apperant reason. Trips to the basements showed up with nothing. Things fell down for no reason and (20 years ago) the mental institution was closed down. with the history that the fort/convent/institution had, it became a historical landmark forever to be preserved and untouched untill the building falls under its deterioating conditions. Armed security guards protect the building from intruders even to this day preventing people from entering the building or its catacombs. Directly behind the building another convent has been established however it is protected greatly by security systems and guards as well. The Cemetery still remains and every night there is a thick fog surrounding it. it is closed off to people however there are no guards to prevent people from going in. the entrance to the catacomb is repordatly under a grave stone and has been meshed off to prevent people from entering it, however it must be repeaditly replaced as people keep breaking into the catacombs.
