Anglo-African

Hi Matthew. Anglo-African was moved to British diaspora in Africa recently (see Talk:Anglo-African#Proposed move to British in Africa and Anglo#Africa for the term Anglo-African). I see that in 2008 you created Category:Anglo-African people which has been applied to over 500 biographical articles, and I think should probably now be deleted as it is no longer applicable. Its subcategory Category:African people of British descent would now be more appropriate for such articles. (Incidentally, I am confused as to how Category:African people of British descent can be a subcategory of Category:Anglo-African people while Category:Anglo-African people is a subcategory of Category:African people of British descent.) Do you have any comments or suggestions in this regard? Helen (talk) 16:48, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

I don't know why they are each other's subcat as well as supracat; I take 'Anglo-African' to mean closer to but not exactly that of 'Anglophone African', where a significant number are people of (Eastern European) Jewish descent, for instance, who speak English as a first language. I don't mind at all seeing it done away with, especially as I have seen the comments of one or two WP users, over the years, who are South African and Anglophone and who do not at all use the term (to refer to themselves). (Categorizing by first language on WP, if that were to be it, seems not to have gained solid footing, besides.) Mayumashu (talk) 01:11, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, I have proposed that it be merged with Category:African people of British descent. Most white South Africans just call themselves South Africans (82% in a 2004 survey), and specify their first language if asked. Helen (talk) 08:07, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

Request to take part in a survey

Hi there. I would very much appreciate it if you could spend ~2 minutes and take a short survey - a project trying to understand why the most active Wikipedia contributors (such as yourself) may reduce their activity, or retire. I sent you an email with details, if you did not get it please send me a wikiemail, so that I can send you an email with the survey questions. I would very much appreciate your cooperation, as you are among the most active Wikipedia editors who show a pattern of reduced activity, and thus your response would be extremely valuable. Thanks! --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 11:26, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
