Steve Espinola here[edit]

I've had trouble with some folks regarding the biff rose page, and especially willmcw, who I think is deludeed, but good editor on the most part, though his tactics leave something to be desired.

Could you show me where the page about me was? ThanskSteve espinola 20:57, 9 August 2005 (UTC) Steve[reply]

There are many reasons to believe that User:Steve espinola is one of many sockpuppets that are attacking the Biff Rose article. For that reason I am inclined to give more credence to the unregistered user than to the so-called User:Steve espinola. If you have any reasons to believe otherwise then I'd be happy to hear them. Thanks, -Willmcw 21:40, August 9, 2005 (UTC)
PS: The "Steve Espinola" of note has a webpage, SteveEspinola.com. I'm going to ask that the anonymous user send a note from that domain to your email or to mine in order to establish his identity. That's the standard procedure for celebrities. I assume that you are a disinterested admin and are willing to act as an arbiter in this matter. (I'll post the same note on User:Steve espinola's talk page too). Thanks, -Willmcw 21:47, August 9, 2005 (UTC)

This is so weird[edit]

Willmcw has obviously picked me out to be someone other than who I am, in regards to edits I made that expanded on his original plan on the Biff Rose wikipedia entry. I have discovered numerous places where the words of Rose would most certianly be taken as Racist, Anti Semtic and Misogynistic. I've noted that on the entry, and eah time, Willmcw has taken down my entry and stricken the information. I've added quotes taken from ROse's own website, to which he has removed or attempted to hide from view.

I have never once identified myself as anyone other than the name I use to edit under, which is the americanized version of my birth name, which I use in my life. I am am usicina in Los Angeles, I do not have a website, nor do I claim to be from New York. But I work as a studio musician and background vocalist, primarily in mexican styles of music, for the latino communities her in Soutehrn California and back in Mexico.

Willmcw has made my entry into wikipedia difficult, but as you can see by my contributions, I'm trying to clean up old articles and copy edit others. To help with the project.

thanksSteve espinola 22:37, 9 August 2005 (UTC) Steve[reply]

I'm the Steve Espinola who is friends with Biff Rose. I'm the one who left the unsigned posting on the page of the fake Steve Espinola. If you go to Steve Espinola.com and email me with a phrase of your choosing, I will echo it back to prove my identity. You're helping a vandal.

I noticed you voted on this VfD. There are 7 others that are basically the same. I'm posting this note to everyone who voted for one and not the others, so we can get at least a consistent result when they are all processed. If you could vote on any of the below that you so far haven't I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks:

At some point someone should hammer out a consistent policy on politicans of this vein, but until then case-by-case voting is king. Getting the same result across the board will be helpful for now. -R. fiend 03:44, 11 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello :)

Meelar - Look's like I am on your watchlist as well. I inputted a post about a plumber Mike Tarinelli who uses heated urine to eliminate odors either in smelly kithen drains or when spread over a location where a dog/cat deficated on a lawn. You had mentioned that the information needs to be include within a written source to be substantiated otherwise it would be eliminated. I am tracking down some printed articles (none of which I can find on google)and will post. I did find one link however:[[2] The concept is similar to perfume which was originally made from whale vomit. It was a strong odor that essentially modified to create perfume. I understand you are trying to do your job, I just want to understand how I can further substantiate my posts so they do not get deleted.Regards and thank you for your support Donkey1

Final decision reached[edit]

Photos vs. Drawings[edit]

JOOC, why are you of the opinion that a photo is better than a drawing? In the cases of overtly sexual photo, or a photo depicting a sexual act, the photo is a violation of Florida state law as Wikipedia has no adult verification system and thus is providing pornography to minors. I will agree in the case of tasteful nudes which do not exhibit masturbation or sexual acts, a photograph is probably superior, but there is no need for photographs in the cases of masturbation or sexual acts. The photograph adds nothing to the article, except bringing it into violation of Flordia law. Agriculture 16:13, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Help with dispute[edit]

I recently edited the entry on The urge that I felt was poorly done and not extremely factual (although some of what I removed is factual, simply without any references to the origional material posted I had nothing to go by but my own research). The original editor reverted much of my edit and from the looks of their message on the article's talk page it seems unlikely that they will be happy with any future edits (at least by myself). If you would be so kind as to look at the article I think it would help out a great deal. Some of the text they put in is extremely close to a fan site they listed as a reference. I have no desire to get into an editing war with this user but feel that at least some of their reversion is less than advantageous (some of it is usful such as the albums they included and the refrences they put in after my edit). I contact you only because you are the admin who welcomed me to wikipedia so I remembered you. Thanks for your help and time. --Mr. Dude †@£КÇøת†яĭβü†ĬŎИ 00:56, August 22, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks and a question[edit]

Thank you (belatedly) for your kind welcome message (even if it was just robotically generated?) As a brand new Wikipedian (but experienced user of Wikipedia) I gotta say Wikipedia is GREAT!!!! I am mightily impressed! One quick question I could not find answer to in the Help pages (although I'll bet its in there someplace). If I discover a page whose name does not abide by the conventions, e.g. Berlin School, which should actually be Berlin school, (second word in no-caps) should I bother to rename the page to what it should be? (Would that screw up other links to that same page?) Or should I just link to Berlin School and leave it at that? Slehar 15:47, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your praise on my peer review. I've submitted the article as a FAC and would appreciate your vote at Wikipedia:Featured_article_candidates/Jean_Schmidt. PedanticallySpeaking 17:05, August 23, 2005 (UTC)

Naming conventions[edit]

Hi Meelar, Sorry to bother you again (I searched thoroughly in Help first, and I want to make sure I get it right. Tell me if there is someone else I should bother instead of you). About Berlin School again, the Berlin School is a branch of Gestalt psychology. Would it be more appropriate to call the page Gestalt theory Berlin school? It strikes me that just "Berlin school" might conflict with any schools in Berlin unrelated to Gestalt theory. Slehar 17:34, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I thought I'd leave a note on this page because I'm not sure it's appropriate to comment further on the vfd page, but the current EdouardGlissant page isn't actually a mispelling, it that there's a missing space between his first and last name, doesn't seem like a common error, or one that people would easily correct to Edouard Glissant. It seems like a needless redirect. Anyways, now that I've nominated it for vfd, can/should I remove it and redirect to the other page? Thanks and sorry for cluttering your talk page. Hi there. I've moved the stub back to the end of the main content of the stub. Please leave it there unless you can convince me that it doesn't belong there. Mike Dillon 02:15, September 3, 2005 (UTC)

The Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting page says "It is common practice to put the tag at the very bottom of the article." That's all well and good, but I do not consider the stub sorting project an authoritative guideline. Please leave the stub as I wrote it unless you are making a substantial contribution. Mike Dillon 02:25, September 3, 2005 (UTC)
The main reason I want it at the end of the stubbed content is that I think it looks better. I also think that it is more likely to get someone to expand the stub in that position. Moreover, I think that placing the stub marker after list-based sections like Partial bibliography and External links introduces visual clutter. I'm not adamantly opposed about moving it to the bottom, I just resented your moving it without adding something to my talk page within one minute after I created the article and ignoring my "please leave it there unless you can convince me." Mike Dillon 02:37, September 3, 2005 (UTC)
I think I've decided to leave the stub marker where I originally placed it. Wikipedia:Stub#Categorising stubs says "By convention, these stub templates should be placed near the bottom of the article" (my emphasis). As far as I'm concerned, the current placement is near the bottom of the article, so I don't think it needs to be changed. I could see moving it if I had stuck it at the top of the article, but from my perspective it is currently at the bottom of the content and near the absolute bottom. If the article had non-list sections, I would support moving it to the absolute bottom, but with the current content I think it is best as is. Besides, the main purpose of the stub sorting project is to put articles into the correct stubs, not to move around stub markers. Sorry if I've disappointed you. Mike Dillon 02:52, September 3, 2005 (UTC)

Also, I have added an advisory committee, of four members, with limited power besides watching over the admin general and making sure he doesn't do anything stupid. Thanks for your message about notability. The way i see it, a wikipedia article should not be included by notability, but by its reference value. Something shouldn't need to be special or interesting, just likely to be looked up to meet inclusion criteria, imo. this trend oof "notability" seems a little sinister to me =/ TastemyHouse 23:53, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Request for relief[edit]

Thanks for the greeting on my talk page, Meelar. You might notice my interest here has been singular in focus, attempting to refine and balance a page that was created by members of an on-line forum and which advanced a somewhat promotional view of their site.

I've spent a lot of time watching and improving the article in the past few days. But I fear being drawn into a pattern of non-cooperative edits by members of the site who either created the article or are drawn here by links from that site to the article. The latest group of edits by an apparent fan of the "Psycho-Babble" forums included dead links, removal of meaningful content from the Wikipedia article, and repeated allegations of stalking.

Since I'm not savy in accessing Wikipedia's vast infrastructre for resolving conflict and protecting integrity of content, could you help me find a way to maintain this article with some integrity? Thanks ProveReader 21:31, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mark for Deletion[edit]

I am still trying to work my way through understanding policies and rules, and the hows and whys for Wikipedia. I have discovered a page that I think should probably be deleted: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anime_Unleashed. I have posted my objections to the talk page for this entry. How do I "mark for deletion" or at least start the process of moving it toward either deletion or serious examination of it's value in the encyclopedia? GestaltG 23:21, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I seem to have found my way through the maze to the cheeze: For anyone interested, here is the link to the Articles for Deletion instructions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:AfD. I have listed the Anime Unleashed article for deletion. Whether it ultimately is or is not deleted is up to others, whoever wants to weigh in, and whomever makes the final decision. I have made my case for deletion and will monitor. GestaltG 05:17, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

An Esperanzial note[edit]

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: EA-welcome (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.

Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2[edit]

The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
 1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
 2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
 3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.

Situation of administrator abuse[edit]

Hi, I'm in a potentially awkward position with an Administrator. I have read the Wiki pages on dispute resolution but I'm still not sure how to proceed.

The Admin ContiE has a personal grudge against me for reasons I do not fully understand. He has been this way since I began frequenting wikipedia.

I have done work improving the furvert article. He has basically gone on a crusade against any edit I make. He controls every furry category article and several others ruthlessly. He is an iron fist and bans anyone he edit wars with. I had uploaded pictures and he deleted them with no talking. He seems to believe I am every person he has had an edit war against. He is always using personal attacks, calling me troll without reason. I uploaded them again and he voted them for deleted, but to his surprise the person who runs the images, thank you Nv8200p, found they were acceptable once I tagged them properly. Just recently he removed both the images without himself discussing it in the talk page (unless he was the same person who discussed only one) with the edit here [3] Then ContiE assumed bad faith, added his constant insult of troll in the talk page. It appears on a completed different wiki, a comedy one in all things, somebody else stole my username and I believe this was Conti himself and uploaded them. ContiE showed it as his reason. While vandalism like his, I would revert and mention it, he would ban me permanently if I undid his edit. That is why I am asking admins for help. He holds a couple of accounts on wikipedia and I think they are administrators so I have to be careful who I tell about this. Arights 06:18, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3[edit]

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
 1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
 2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
 3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
 4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
 5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

A short Esperanzial update[edit]

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Here comes the Spiderman![edit]

(Wikipedia:No climbing the Reichstag dressed as Spiderman)

I have threatened to climb the Reichstag, dressed up as and did so, became bollocked from editing for violating Wikipedia policy against climbing the Reichstag dressed as Spiderman, and then had it become an official policy on Wikipedia (and to be an official decree by the Supreme Cabal Regime of the English Wikipedia (SCREW)). Is Absolutley fantasitic!. This is so great!

"In extreme cases editors may be tempted to climb the Reichstag building dressed as Spiderman in order to promote their cause. This is absolutely forbidden and can result in an indefinite block from editing Wikipedia."

You may not do this.
Nor on Tower bridge either.

This single event is a great example of all the good qualities of our beloved Wikipedia! Horay!

Thats what I love about this Wonderful, wonderful website.

August Esperanza Newsletter[edit]

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
 1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
 2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
 3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
 4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
 5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
 6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.
